Pitch Hewlett Packard Enterprise on a new, groundbreaking animated vision for their successful live-action technology series, On the Go with Dr. Goh.

On the Go with Dr. Goh is currently a live-action digital series hosted on HPE's Discover More Network featuring Dr. Eng Lim Goh, an IT Guru and the Chief Technology Officer for Artificial Intelligence at HPE, who explains how new and emerging technologies are impacting business today, while highlighting how HPE helps bring these innovations to organizations. Now, HPE and Dr. Goh are looking to pivot to an animated medium and refresh their program with a dynamic new look, exploring new format options to ensure that the program has even more content value for audiences.

The focus of this series is to inform and entertain—not sell HPE products or services. We want to elevate Dr. Goh as one of the foremost experts and thought leaders while bringing more awareness to the technologies and solutions he discusses. Pitches must balance the serious nature of the innovation subject matter against the need for real entertainment and fun. Creating an animation of a real person or “character” that few people easily recognize will also require a smart, intentional creative mechanism to tie the real Dr. Goh to his animated self. HPE wants to break the mold and shake up the traditional industry explainer video format. Even the series's title is up for consideration!

The goal of this project is to, first, produce a pilot episode for Dr. Goh's new series. If successful, that pilot could then lead to the production of additional episodes. With that in mind, we are looking for filmmakers to share their vision of how to update the program and explain how their production could scale to a six-episode series. HPE is primarily interested in motion graphics and animation pitches, and while HPE will be able to facilitate VO recordings with Dr. Goh, pitches should assume that Dr. Goh will not appear on camera. Pitches should also include a Style Frame to give the brand an idea of your visual approach and style with the animation. Keep in mind too, it’s important that every episode helps humanize the technologies we’re talking about, and strongly address questions like “so what?” and “why does this matter to me?” in the audience takeaway.  HPE is searching for a filmmaker who can help tell and shape this story end to end—developing a POV, script, and design for the episodes.

Check out more in the Background & Additional Details below, and for any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

DELIVERABLES:

  •  One 2-3 minute pilot episode (16x9)
  • Two :30 cutdowns (16x9, 1x1)
  • Note: If you move forward with a series, you can anticipate that each additional episode would require similar deliverables.

TIMELINE: For the full project timeline please see the Assets section.

  • When estimating a prospective budget for an additional 5 episodes, assume a 6-month timeline with rolling deliveries.

EXPOSURE:

TARGET AUDIENCE: Business leaders, decision-makers and Department Heads seeking workplace solutions

TONE:

  • Credible and Sincere - Dr. Goh is one of HPE’s foremost technologists.
  • Dynamic, new, and fresh - not whimsical, childish or amateur.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Please note that Hewlett Packard and Hewlett Packard Enterprises are two different entities.
  • Pitches should continue to use Dr. Goh as a host or VO lead.
  • Pitches should elevate Dr. Goh as a reliable resource and expert in the field.
  • While pitches do not need to follow the existing HPE branding, proposed aesthetics should feel like it is from HPE.
  • While we are entertaining new titles for the series, it is always possible that the Sponsor may choose their own title.

OPEN BID:

  • This is an open bid project, so you will get to set your own budget proposal within the range of $20k-$29k for the pilot. The Sponsor is interested in seeing tiered pricing options, so please feel free to submit various versions of your pitch at budget, target, and reach price points within that price range.
  • By participating in this open bid project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a bid. Though most open bid projects on our platform do move forward with a greenlit bid, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any bids via the project forum. Regardless of the result, all open bid submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the project team.

HPE is looking to give this series new life in 2021, and they are ready to break the mold. The current series has a few strengths, like Dr. Goh's expertise and his ability to use approachable language when explaining complex processes, and that should certainly continue in the program's new form. Also, the current series effectively utilizes HPE branding elements to show that this material is from HPE. While HPE is not looking to overtly brand the entire episode, and remains open to incorporating different brand elements, we will want to make sure the viewer can always tell this series is from HPE.

From there, the creative possibilities become wide open. We want the material to pop and grab viewers, while maintaining Dr. Goh's credibility and HPE's status as a technology solution for businesses. While the current series simplifies the information in an approachable way, there is still plenty of room to engage audiences emotionally through storytelling and visuals that energize the viewer. This means the program's overall format, look, and feel are up for an overhaul. The current program relies on a single narrator (Dr. Goh), but if it feels like a right fit for you, pitches could even entertain multiple speakers so long as Dr. Goh serves as our main voice. Fundamentally, we want viewers to not only learn something from the programming but enjoy it so much they feel compelled to share it with their peers.

This program covers many different innovations for large businesses that need data clarity and robust connectivity. For future episodes, you should be prepared to cover anything from IOT mesh networks to implementing AI in your workforce. There are lots of exciting developments at HPE and an appetite to learn about IT is crucial.

Finally, On the Go with Dr. Goh was based on the idea that Dr. Goh would be traveling to different destinations around the world to look at new innovations. Nowadays, people aren't traveling so much and in-person visits are discouraged due to COVID-19. So HPE is open to a new title for this series, but it will still feature Dr. Goh and his helpful explanations.

Get to know Dr. Goh even better below:

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 or fewer characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this pilot and series.

  • SERIES TITLE (REQUIRED): On the Go with Dr. Goh no longer fits now that our expert is no longer globe trotting. Propose a new, engaging title that fits better.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the pilot and series. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  •  BID/BUDGET (REQUIRED): This is an open bid project, so you’ll get to set your overall budget proposal. The Sponsor would like each producer to create all of the videos listed in the Deliverables section within a total budget range of $20k-$29k for the pilot. You can download the budget template here.

  • SERIES BID/BUDGET (REQUIRED): To the best of your ability, please provide a bid for an additional 5 episodes if the greenlit pilot episode is successful. The Sponsor understands that budgeting this early in the process should be considered an estimate, and the submitted series bid is simply used to understand what possible efficiencies of scale could be possible if the pilot went to seriess. You can download the budget template here.

  • COVID PROTOCOL (Optional):  If you are using stop animation, please let us know your team’s COVID safety protocols for production. If you’re doing everything yourself, or your team will be working 100% remotely, let us know that this won’t apply. Otherwise, at the very minimum, your safety plan must include information about:
    • What city and state you plan to film in
    • Whether you are filming interiors or exteriors
    • Approximately how many people you plan to have on set
    • How you’ll account for testing, PPE, and distancing on set
    • How you’ll handle talent and backup talent, including any hair, make-up, and wardrobe needs
    • Whether you’ll have a dedicated compliance officer on set

  • STYLE FRAME (REQUIRED): Share images or examples of the aesthetic you see for this project. Be clear about how you see it complimenting your story and explain elements that might not be evident in still form.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Please see the full payment schedule in the Assets section.
