Produce an informative and engaging live-action video series about vitamins and supplements featuring Nature Made expert and VP of Science and Technology, Dr. Susan Mitmesser, who's available to shoot the week of 12/13, and is located in the LA Metropolitan area.

What are the benefits of Folic Acid? What's the difference between Biotin and Collagen? Do gummy vitamins really work? Do we really need to take supplements every day? It is questions like these that Nature Made wants to help people answer, and who better to answer these questions than Nature Made's top expert herself: Dr. Susan Mitmesser, the Vice President of Science and Technology at Pharmavite. Dr. Mitmesser's ready to answer any question big or small, with a welcoming smile, and an extensive knowledge about vitamins, supplements, and a healthy lifestyle.

The goal of this project is to create an educational but visually dynamic five-part live-action explainer series about vitamins and supplements, starring Dr. Mitmesser. Each video will cover a different topic or question, starting with foundational topics like "Why vitamins?" and building towards more specific questions. The topics for each episode will be provided to you, although you will have input on how we approach each topic. You will not be responsible for research or scripting, but will instead be conducting a pre-interview with Dr. Mitmesser and using her responses to build a shooting outline for each episode. Nature Made is looking for videos that will engage the audience and explain key facts, while accurately capturing why Dr. Mitmesser is go to solution for all vitamin, supplement, and wellness questions.

You can expect one or more pre-interviews with Dr. Mitmesser, and you should anticipate around 2-3 days of filming with her the week of December 13th in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

However you decide to film, motion graphics and animation are going to be especially important, whether we're talking about transition effects, text, and branding, or more complicated visuals, like a vitamin's mechanism of action, or the chemical structure of vitamin C. You'll want something colorful and dynamic, but you still have to maintain the polish and credibility of Dr. Mitmesser and the brand. We'd like to see samples of your motion graphic artist's work (or your own, if you do it yourself), with your pitch, but if you need to source a motion graphic artist, we'll give you the opportunity to Tap Into Tongal and run your own project to source an artist from within the Tongal community. More information on that will be in the Background.

In success, there's the possibility, and the intent, that this series continue after these 5 episodes, so you'll want to lay a strong foundation here. Check out more information and previous Dr. Mitmesser videos in the Background, and for any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

DELIVERABLES: There are 40 total video assets.

  • Five 2-3 min episodes (16x9, 9x16)
  • Six Informational Social Assets (Per Episode)
    • Two :30 Website/Email Video (16x9)
    • Two :30 Instagram In-Feed (4x5)
    • Two :30 Instagram Stories (9x16)

TIMELINE:

EXPOSURE:

TARGET AUDIENCE: Women & men, aged 35+ currently using or considering vitamins, minerals, and supplements as part of their health and wellness regimen.

TONE: Credible, knowledgeable, certain, approachable, helpful, honest, and optimistic

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • You MUST be able to film in the Los Angeles metropolitan area to qualify for this project (no additional funds will be made available for travel).
  • Although you may film with a stripped-down docu-style approach, the client will be on set for approvals during production, and you should account for that in planning.
  • Each "informational" :30 social asset should take a key fact from one of the episodes and deliver it as engaging content that stands on its own, but still ends with a CTA driving people to watch the full episode. It's NOT merely a cut-down, and you can rely more on motion graphics or animation here since the focus is on communicating helpful information, not just promoting the show.
  • Motion graphics must be a part of your creative approach, although you can shoot Dr. Mitmesser in a more stripped down docu-style manner.
  • Concepts should not imply that Nature Made products are a "cure" or a singular remedy for any specific medical condition. Nature Made products are supplements meant to support a customer's goal towards wellness.

By participating in this project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a submission. Though most projects on our platform do move forward, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any submissions via the project forum. Regardless of the result, all submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the project team.

Shooting live action or stop motion? Our priority is ensuring everyone's safety, and we're now requiring a COVID safety protocol plan for all relevant productions. Please review our COVID-19 Production Safety Guide and check federal, state, and local rules before and during your shoot to make sure your on-set protocols are up to date. We're working hard to keep people working during this extraordinary time, and you should ensure your submission is executable within the anticipated timeline and budget, while also ensuring everyone's safety.

STYLE & FORMAT - Nature Made has existing content with Dr. Mitmesser, but it's fairly simple and straightforward, with the doctor predominantly filming herself at home. For your series, we'd like a much more elevated look. Beyond the production value that you get filming with a real camera and good lighting, you should think about where you can film that will feel more interesting, but still authentic to the video itself. That can still include her home office, but maybe we follow her into her kitchen, her backyard, her Pharmavite offices, her neighborhood, or even her gym. Filming at a studio, or entirely within one office, isn't out of the question, but you'd probably want to rely much more heavily on motion graphics if you go that route.

EXISTING CONTENT EXAMPLES - These examples give an idea of the existing Dr. Mitmesser content so you can get to know her, her speaking style, and the kind of topics that have been discussed so far. We are looking for a much more dynamic, energetic approach and better visuals than these examples, so you SHOULD NOT take away the style or look from these videos when considering your approach.

ABOUT DR. SUSAN MITMESSER - Dr. Susan Hazels Mitmesser, PhD, is the VP of Science and Technology at Pharmavite, where she provides scientific leadership to advance innovation and new product development strategies, and to ensure the scientific integrity of all products made under its brand portfolio. She has a passion for nutrition and wellness and leverages her ability to communicate scientific findings to consumers and the marketplace.

TAP INTO TONGAL

Wishing you could get amazing motion graphics and visuals to use in your videos? You can! If you don't have this skillset, or just need a good partner to create motion graphics, animation, text, or other visuals to really elevate your video, we'll help you run your own project on Tongal.com to find someone who can create the motion graphics for your project, within strict parameters that YOU set. If you go this route, we'll build the project for you, help you review pitches, and manage production logistics. You can provide specs, storyboards, and whatever guidance you want - you'll just need to cover the costs for the creator, which we'd recommend keeping in the range of $4,000-$8,000, depending on how complicated your treatment and plans are. This isn't mandatory at all, but hey, you we've got a massive community out there that could rock this! Email iwanyk@tongal.com for more.

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 or fewer characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this video.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • COVID PROTOCOL (REQUIRED): Please let us know your team’s COVID safety protocols for production. If you’re doing everything yourself, or your team will be working 100% remotely, let us know that this won’t apply. Otherwise, at the very minimum, your safety plan must include information about:
    • What city and state you plan to film inWhether you are filming interiors or exteriorsApproximately how many people you plan to have on setHow you’ll account for testing, PPE, and distancing on setHow you’ll handle talent and backup talent, including any hair, make-up, and wardrobe needsWhether you’ll have a dedicated compliance officer on set

  • PREVIOUS MOTION GRAPHIC DESIGN WORK (Optional): Please include links of previous motion graphics work from who person who will be your motion graphic designer or animator for this project. Please link to individual videos. If you would like to utilize Tap Into Tongal instead, please write that in this section.

  • STORYBOARDS (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. You can download the Tongal storyboard template here.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Please see the full payment schedule in the Assets section.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to shooting, filmmakers must receive the below approvals from the Sponsor.

  • SHOOTING OUTLINE: This project requires shooting outline approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. This outline will be used to address the questions and a topical breakdown of what will be filmed in each episode. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your outline and ask you to submit a new version. There may be several rounds of feedback until an outline is approved by the Sponsor.
  • GRAPHICS TREATMENT: This project requires graphics approval. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your graphics and ask you to submit a new version. There may be several rounds of feedback until all graphics are approved by the Sponsor.

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a treatment, production budget, storyboards, shot list, call sheet, and a music cue sheet. Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present cast, location, and wardrobe options to the Sponsor. They can all be accessed here.

BUILDING YOUR TEAM: Tongal supports inclusivity in all of our productions and strongly encourages you to hire diverse talent for your team. To find staff & crew in your area, check out these resources and partners.
