Toy System Anthem Videos Project
Pre-Pitch
08/10/20 - 08/12/20
Pitch
08/13/20 - 09/14/20

Produce a suite of anthem videos for GoldieBlox's upcoming line of flexibly-built brick systems for girls ages 8 and up.

GoldieBlox is launching a fun new line of physically flexible brick toy systems for the holidays. These toys are aimed at girls ages 8 and up, and each set is designed for girls to build a specific item... or whatever they can imagine. GoldieBlox is looking for one Tongal filmmaker to create a suite of three unique anthem videos to drive awareness and, above all, sales.

The messaging for this campaign is STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) + Fun = Endless Possibilities. Each of your anthem videos should feature real girls engaging with the toy systems to bring this to life in different ways based on the target audience. More information about the toy systems will be provided to the filmmakers who are greenlit during the Pre-Pitch phase to hone their pitches and treatments.

The Narrative Anthem videos will hit three core audiences:

  1. Campaign Anthem – general messaging
  2. Parents Anthem – targeting gift-buyers (parents, grandparents, etc); especially gift-buyers looking for "good for you" toys that girls will still love
  3. Girls – Girls 8+

Your pitch should bring a creative take to each of the three main narrative anthem videos. Each of the narrative anthem videos has a specific theme, which is elaborated on in more detail in the Background section.

We're running this project a bit differently, so if you are interested in learning more and pitching on this project, submit a short synopsis and your past work in the Pre-Pitch Phase. Filmmakers that are selected through the Pre-Pitch phase will receive additional information to help craft their pitch for the next phase. Note, however, that the Pitch phase will still be open for anyone to submit a full pitch, even if they missed the Pre-Pitch phase.

DELIVERABLES: This project has 7 total assets:

  • One :30–:60 Campaign Anthem (16x9, 1x1)
    • One :06 Campaign Anthem YouTube Bumper (16x9)
  • One :30–:60 Parent Anthem (16x9, 1x1)
  • One :30–:60 Girls Anthem (16x9, 1x1)

Graphics (motion, still, endcards) will be sourced in a concurrent Tongal project.

TIMELINE: For the full project timeline please see the Assets section

EXPOSURE:

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Campaign Anthem – general messaging
  • Parents Anthem – targeting gift-buyers (parents, grandparents, etc)
  • Girls – Girls 8+

TONE: Authentic – parents should see their daughters and girls should see themselves or their slightly older sister/friend/neighbor in these videos

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Each anthem video should target a specific audience with specific messaging; see more in Background.
  • All videos must drive to sales of the physically flexible brick systems
  • All videos must make it clear that these brick systems are literally physically flexible, with pieces that bend and move, which allows girls to build not only what is in each set but whatever their imagination can think up.
  • You may cast "real" girls/sisters/families. All casting should be diverse in age, ethnicity, etc.
  • Nothing should be "perfect" – messy hair, bright but chipped nail polish, etc. are all good

NOTE: Our priority is ensuring everyone's safety, so please review our COVID-19 Production Safety Guide and check federal, state, and local rules before and during your shoot to make sure your on-set protocols are up to date. We’re working hard to keep people working during this extraordinary time, and our advice here is to make sure your submission is executable while also ensuring everyone's safety.

OPEN BID:

  • This is an open bid project, so you will get to set your own budget proposal of up to $27,000. The Sponsor is interested in seeing tiered pricing options, so please feel free to submit various versions of your pitch at budget, target, and reach price points within that price range.
  • By participating in this open bid project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a bid. Though most open bid projects on our platform do move forward with a greenlit bid, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any bids via the project forum. Regardless of the result, all open bid submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the project team.

The Sponsor has decided not to move forward with a Bid on this project. Though most Open Bid Projects do move forward with a selected Bid, we will always notify you in the event the Sponsor has decided not to move forward. Please note that regardless of the results, all submissions are reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the Project Team. We sincerely appreciate your time and effort on this project.

PRE-PITCH PHASE:

In order to be considered for the Pitch Phase, you must include the below materials in your Pre-Pitch Submission. The Pre-Pitch Phase gives filmmakers the opportunity to submit a 500-character synopsis of their creative vision for the final Videos, confirm their availability for production, and submit samples of previous work. It’s your chance to raise your hand and say, “Hey, I’m available and I have this opportunity and want to learn more!”

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing why you are interested in and think you could be a great fit for this project.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

PITCH PHASE:

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • BID/BUDGET (REQUIRED): This is an open bid project, so you’ll get to set your overall budget proposal. You can download the budget template here. The Sponsor would like each producer to create 7 videos for up to $27,000.

  • SCRIPT (Optional): This should include specific beats from the video you intend to create.

  • STORYBOARDS (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. You can download the Tongal storyboard template here.

  • HEADSHOTS/CASTING BOARDS (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment, the responsible creator will receive funding. Please note: the payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Please see the full payment schedule in the Assets section.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to shooting, filmmakers must receive the below approvals from the Sponsor.

  • SCRIPT: This project requires script approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a script is approved by the Sponsor.

  • CASTING: This project requires casting approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. Tongal supports inclusivity in on-screen representation and advocates for diversity in casting. As a best practice, please submit three to four options per role with at least one of those options being a person of color. If the Sponsor does not approve any of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit new actor options.

  • STORYBOARD: This project requires storyboard approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your storyboard and ask you to submit a new version.

The Sponsor may provide feedback on your location and ask you to submit additional photos or to find a new location and submit images for that.

  • WARDROBE: This project requires wardrobe approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You will need to submit descriptions and/or pictures of your cast’s wardrobe. You must submit at least two wardrobe options per role. If the Sponsor does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new wardrobe options.

A note on Crew: Tongal supports inclusivity across the board in all of our productions and strongly encourages you to hire diverse talent across your production and post-production departments. To find crew in your area, check out these resources and partners.

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a treatment, production budget, storyboards, shot list, call sheet, and a music cue sheet. Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present cast, location, and wardrobe options to the Sponsor. They can all be accessed here.
