Create an educational and entertaining series of how-to videos to help Thermador customers get the most out of their new appliances.

We want to give everyone interested in pitching on this project time to get their pitch materials together, so we are extending the pitch phase to WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24 at NOON PT .

Congratulations, you just got a brand-new Thermador appliance! ...now what?

This is a surprisingly common question among home cooks new to the luxury appliance brand. Yes, Thermador appliances are known for their quality as much as their good looks, but there's so much a Thermador appliance can do beyond basic operation. And what better way to help them than with a series of highly instructional, value-add videos that show how to use key product features and functions, accessories, and tips and tricks so customers can get the most out of their Thermador appliances and forge a lifetime connection with the brand?

Your 2-3 minute videos should feature a personable host (preferably a Thermador owner, a chef, or someone familiar with the brand's products) and Thermador appliance models new within the last 2 years. Thermador is open to seeing different takes and tones, as well as videos against one or more of their product lines, from ovens and rangetops to refrigerators and dishwashers and more, that walk owners through some of the specific functions, settings, and accessories that make Thermador appliances unique.

While we'd love to see Thermador appliances at use in a home setting, you may consider reaching out to Thermador's authorized dealer partners as a filming location. (FYI: Thermador may be able to help facilitate an introduction to these partners, but cannot guarantee dealer locations for filming or pre-approve the location). Manuals and demo videos will be provided to the greenlit filmmaker(s).

If you own a Thermador appliance (must be new within the last 2 years – see website for most recent models) or know someone who does but are unable to pitch on this project, please drop us a note in the Project Forum and we may be able help match you with a filmmaker.

Our priority is ensuring everyone's safety, so please review our COVID-19 Production Safety Guide and check federal, state, and local rules before and during your shoot to make sure your on-set protocols are up to date. We’re working hard to keep people working during this extraordinary time, and our advice here is to make sure your submission is executable within the anticipated timeline, while also ensuring everyone's safety.

DELIVERABLES: Three 2-3 minute videos

TIMELINE: For the full project timeline please see the Assets section.

EXPOSURE:

TARGET AUDIENCE: Thermador owners, especially newer ones

TONE: Informative, educational, lighthearted, entertaining.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Your pitch must include a brief introductory video from your proposed host(s).
  • Your pitch must include photos of your proposed location and Thermador appliances.
  • Videos must provide education to new Thermador owners. Manuals and demos will be provided to the greenlit filmmaker(s)
  • Videos must show how each product works, highlighting pertinent features and functions, to ultimately show how that appliance can add value to the owner's life.
  • Videos cannot show any competitor brands (ie SubZero, Wolf, Viking); brand logos on smaller appliances like KitchenAid stand mixers should be hidden from camera.
  • If you are showing any final plated dishes in your videos, you will need to bring on a food stylist. Please include links to your food stylist's past work in your treatment.
  • Your budget must include a breakdown for a single video execution (pilot) as well as a three-video series.

OPEN BID:

  • This is an open bid project, so you will get to set your own budget proposal up to $25,000 for the three-video series. Your budget should include breakdowns for both a single video execution (pilot) and a three-video series. The Sponsor is interested in seeing tiered pricing options for both one- and three-video executions, so please feel free to submit various versions of your pitch at budget, target, and reach price points within that price range.
  • By participating in this open bid project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a bid. Though most open bid projects on our platform do move forward with a greenlit bid, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any bids via the project forum. Regardless of the result, all open bid submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the project team.

Since 1916, Thermador appliances have been known for unparalleled performance and leading innovations across cooling, cooking, and dish care. With their HomeConnect™ app, Thermador owners are able to control their Thermador appliances wirelessly, access and send recipes and cooking tips, and more, all in the name of supporting Thermador customers and elevate their cooking without compromising their style.

While it's a little more playful/zany in tone, #LikeaBosch is a great example of the style Thermador is going for.

This Butcher Box video is a good example of how to have a host personality showcase the appliance, but think about how you can add value to something like this with recipe steps, etc.

An incomplete list of topics to consider for your videos:

  • What's the difference between convection roasting and convection baking?
  • What is an ultra low burner, and what is it for?
  • What are the benefits of a steam oven or a speed oven? How will either make me a better home chef?
  • How do the various cooking modes affect my food or my cooking time?
  • How to use the touch screens, the HomeConnect™ app for remote diagnostics service, and available features – see Thermador's HomeConnect™ page and download the app to learn more.
  • Tips, tricks, and troubleshooting across all appliance types

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this video.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • BID/BUDGET (REQUIRED): This is an open bid project, so you’ll get to set your overall budget proposal. You can download the budget template here. The Sponsor would like each producer to create three videos for up to $25,000, and would like to see budget breakdowns for both a one-video execution (pilot) and a three-video suite. You may include both breakdowns in your budget document for a single upload.

  • CASTING VIDEO (REQUIRED): Video of your proposed host talent. Can be shot on a cell phone.

  • LOCATION(S) + APPLIANCE(S) (REQUIRED): Photos of your proposed location, including the Thermador appliances you are pitching against.

  • FOOD STYLIST (REQUIRED, IF NEEDED):  Links to your food stylist's previous work. Consider how a food stylist can take part in your shoot even under shelter-in-place orders, if applicable.

  • SCRIPT (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment, the responsible creator will receive funding. Please note: the payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Please see the full payment schedule in the Assets section.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to shooting, filmmakers must receive the below approvals from the Sponsor.

  • SCRIPT: This project requires script approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a script is approved by the Sponsor.

  • HEADSHOT: This project requires headshot approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You must submit at least two actor options per role. If the Sponsor does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new actor options.

  • LOCATION: This project requires location approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. This means you will need to submit multiple images of your primary filming location. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your location and ask you to submit additional photos or to find a new location and submit images for that.

  • WARDROBE: This project requires wardrobe approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You will need to submit descriptions and/or pictures of your cast’s wardrobe. You must submit at least two wardrobe options per role. If the Sponsor does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new wardrobe options.

  • FOOD STYLIST: This project requires food stylist approval, if relevant, before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You must submit your planned stylist with your pitch submission. Consider how a food stylist can take part in your shoot even under shelter-in-place orders, if applicable. Once your pitch is greenlit, the Sponsor may either approve your stylist or ask you to submit a new one for approval.

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a treatment, production budget, storyboards, shot list, call sheet, and a music cue sheet. Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present cast, location, and wardrobe options to the Sponsor. They can all be accessed here.

REVISION REQUIREMENTS: Once the Video Phase has closed, the greenlit submitters will enter the Revisions Phase. Filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback.

MUSIC: Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Jingle Punks, Universal Production Music and Epidemic Sound, any of which can be used to source music for your video submission to this project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into submissions to this project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the providers’ names above.

If you choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from third-party catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with your license purchase receipt when you turn in your video paperwork.
