Capture viewers' attention and create awareness around Elysian Brewing's Space Dust IPA through an irreverent, offbeat, and deeply memorable suite of videos for broadcast and digital.

If Space Dust IPA isn't already your favorite beer, it's about to be: with an ABV of 8.2%, flavor that balances pine-y, citrus-y hops with notes of grapefruit, mango, and orange, and a pleasantly dry finish, it's THE balanced IPA built to please any palate. Elysian Brewing is looking to the Tongal community to create a suite of videos and gifs for broadcast and digital that drive awareness and excitement for Space Dust IPA amongst IPA-loving beer drinkers in the US.

Your pitch should work from the concept (in the Background) we sourced in a previous Tongal project. Stylistically, we're open to a range of mediums and formats: live-action, animation, collage, papercraft, super 8, x-ray film – it's all good, and it's all on the table. It's crucial that you capture Elysian Brewing's irreverent, offbeat, nontraditional sense of humor; edgy, born-in-grunge, come-as-you-are attitude; and unexpected and highly creative sense of fun. Space Dust IPA is fun, packed with flavor, and never takes itself too seriously, and this is your opportunity to create a broadcast spot for a nationally-distributed beer that doesn't play by the rules. Check out Elysian Brewing's YouTube to better understand what we mean.

Of course, your videos still need to drive home awareness around Space Dust's incredible flavor profile and memorable label: viewers should be able to recall the name Space Dust IPA, know it's brewed by Elysian Brewing, and be excited to seek it out in bars and stores. Please, please, please read the Executional Mandatories below and the concept and Sponsor notes in the Background section, and then, if you haven't already (and you're 21+), crack open a Space Dust IPA and let the creative flow.

For any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

DELIVERABLES: There are 20 total video assets and 10 stills.

  • One :30 broadcast spot (16x9, 1x1, 9x16)
  • One :15 broadcast spot (16x9, 1x1, 9x16)
  • Two :15 alt cuts for social (1x1, 9x16)
  • Two :06 YouTube bumpers (16x9)
  • Four GIFs (1x1, 9x16)
  • Ten stills – not pulled from video, potentially for OOH (16x9 at a minimum, but croppable to 1x1 and 9x16)

TIMELINE: Click here for the full project timeline.

EXPOSURE: Broadcast, YouTube (organic and paid), Elysian Brewing's social media platforms, potential for OOH. Please review the platform best practices page.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Craft beer drinkers, 21-54

TONE: Fun, irreverent, creative, curious; artistic and humorous, open-minded and easy-going; unexpected and memorable. Unexpected and playful with a little bit of grit and edge, and a human touch are key. Elysian is never pretentious, stuffy, judgmental, or aggressive.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Videos must be shot in the US.
  • Your stills must be unique from the video content, i.e. not pulled from the video; we strongly encourage you to bring in a professional food/beverage photographer to capture these, especially as there's a strong chance one or more stills will be used for OOH placement. The Sponsor will require a full buyout on the ten still images.
  • Your videos MUST be based on the concept shared in the Background section, and must take into account the included Sponsor notes; how you choose to bring that concept to life visually, though, is up to you.
  • While your videos should stand out and be memorable, viewers must walk away knowing the names Space Dust IPA and Elysian Brewing, and recognize the Space Dust IPA beer label.
  • We encourage you to creatively incorporate elements of the label artwork into your videos, but Dusty – the hop on the label – should never be personified or characterized. He's a hop, not an anthropomorphic mouse.
  • Animation, collage, papercraft, live-action, super 8 – it's all on the table. Elysian Brewing has even shot spots on VHS-C before, so don't shy away from a non-traditional medium or format if you have a unique and memorable way of incorporating it into your videos.
  • Client on set: Whether virtually or IRL, expect at least one member of the Sponsor team to be present on your set.
  • Elysian Brewing styles its beer, both in the can/bottle and in a glass, to its own standards. A styling guide will be provided to the greenlit filmmaker.
  • You cannot show anyone actually taking a sip or drink of beer in your videos, so get creative on how you can instead imply someone taking a drink, and elaborate on your approach in your pitch.
  • Any talent in your videos must be 25+.

OPEN BID:

  • This is an open bid project, so you will get to set your own budget proposal, up to $130,000. The Sponsor is interested in seeing tiered pricing options, so please feel free to submit various versions of your pitch at budget, target, and reach price points within that price range.
  • By participating in this open bid project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a bid. Though most open bid projects on our platform do move forward with a greenlit bid, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any bids via the project forum. Regardless of the result, all open bid submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the project team.

Shooting live action or stop motion? Our priority is ensuring everyone's safety, and we're now requiring a COVID safety protocol plan for all relevant productions. Please review our COVID-19 Production Safety Guide and check federal, state, and local rules before and during your shoot to make sure your on-set protocols are up to date. We're working hard to keep people working during this extraordinary time, and you should ensure your submission is executable within the anticipated timeline and budget, while also ensuring everyone's safety.

VIDEO CONCEPTS: Your pitch must be based on this concept and must take into account the notes shared below:

A New Place in Each Sip

A person takes a sip of Space Dust IPA and their surrounding background, environment, or elements of the scene change each time to resemble the flavors: pine, citrus, hops, mango, etc.

  • NOTE: You cannot show anyone actually imbibing alcohol in your video, so instead think of creative ways you can imply consumption – and how your approach feeds into your overall vision. Taking a bottle or can out of a six-pack, cracking the beer open, pouring a tap, slamming a glass down – these are some more tried-and-true ways in, and they definitely work, but if you've got a different idea, share it in your pitch!

  • This concept does a great job of bringing the specific flavors to life visually. We challenge you to come up with a way to do this that's artistic, unexpected, and on-brand for Elysian Brewing; we do not want something as simple as the background simply swapping out a PNW forest for a beach, etc.

  • While we are not looking for something as simple as a new background (practical or green screen) that highlights each flavor, we do like the idea of incorporating practical effects, but with a fresh, original, creative take.

ABOUT ELYSIAN BREWING AND SPACE DUST IPA:
Elysian Brewing was founded by three friends in Seattle in 1996, at a time when bold art and music defined the region and the city. Over the past 25 years, Elysian has carried this same spirit in the way they brew their beer: shaking up classic styles, using unusual ingredients, and learning through experimentation. They push creativity beyond the brews; each beer label is made by their in-house team who pull inspiration from design, photography, clay, paint, needlepoint, and even the occasional tattoo.

Elysian is a company that appreciates the human touch and noticing the fingerprints, figuratively and literally. They appreciate the creative layers and often turn to a mixed-media approach in their creative marketing.

First brewed in 2012 as a one-off, Space Dust IPA is an 8.2%ABV India Pale Ale that balances bitterness with a sweetness of hop flavors. Grapefruit, mango, and orange aromas combine with a medium body and a dry finish. Space Dust IPA is made with Chinook, Citra, and Amarillo hops and is available in pony kegs, kegs, and a variety of bottle and can sizes. Space Dust's name originates from the brew day, where leftover Galaxy hop dust (since replaced with Amarillo) was spontaneously thrown into the brew...hence, Space Dust. The beer grew in popularity within Elysian's pubs, was then bottled as part of their Manic Series, and eventually became the #1 beer in Elysian's portfolio.

The Space Dust label was inspired by the original Pop Rocks candy packaging (c 1976), and Elysian adapted the label to a hop cone – Dusty – chomping down on hop dust while in space.

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): Up to 500 characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this video.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here. You must include at least one beverage stylist option in your treatment.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • BID/BUDGET (REQUIRED): This is an open bid project, so you’ll get to set your overall budget proposal. The Sponsor would like each producer to create all of the videos listed in the Deliverables section within a total budget of up to $130,000. Please ensure that your budget factors in appropriate COVID safety protocols (i.e. testing, PPE, cleaning supplies, backup talent, etc.). You can download the budget template here.

  • COVID PROTOCOL (REQUIRED): Please let us know your team’s COVID safety protocols for production. If you’re doing everything yourself, or your team will be working 100% remotely, let us know that this won’t apply. Otherwise, at the very minimum, your safety plan must include information about:
    • What city and state you plan to film in
    • Whether you are filming interiors or exteriors
    • Approximately how many people you plan to have on set
    • How you’ll account for testing, PPE, and distancing on set
    • How you’ll handle talent and backup talent, including any hair, make-up, and wardrobe needs
    • Whether you’ll have a dedicated compliance officer on set

  • SCRIPT (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.

  • STORYBOARDS (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. You can download the Tongal storyboard template here.

  • HEADSHOTS/CASTING BOARDS (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to shooting, filmmakers must receive the below approvals from the Sponsor.

They include templates for creating a treatment, production budget, storyboards, shot list, call sheet, and a music cue sheet. Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present cast, location, and wardrobe options to the Sponsor. They can all be accessed here.

BUILDING YOUR TEAM: Tongal supports inclusivity in all of our productions and strongly encourages you to hire diverse talent for your team. To find staff & crew in your area, check out these resources and partners.

REVISION REQUIREMENTS: Once the Video Phase has closed, the greenlit submitters will enter the Revisions Phase. Filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback.
