Find or partner with a sand sculpture artist to produce a fun and eye-catching social video that showcases the creation of an elaborate sand sculpture tribute to a key character or element from Nick Jr.'s hit animated show Santiago of the Seas.

It can be a hard job sailing the high seas, but not when you live by the good pirate's creed like Santiago and his crew! Santiago of the Seas is an interactive action-adventure series for preschoolers. It follows Santiago Montes, an 8-year old island-dwelling boy who unearths the mystical compass of the fabled pirate Capitán Calavera, the good pirate of the High Seas. Santiago's world is heavily influenced by the rich tapestry that is Latino-Caribbean culture, and all of the characters are fluently bilingual and alternate between English and Spanish smoothly in conversation. You can learn more about the show and its characters in the Background and Assets sections.

As Santiago says, "A good pirate helps friends in need," and our friends at Nick Jr. need your help creating a short video of an elaborate sand sculpture that would make even Enrique Real del Palacio III swoon. As for the sand art itself, Nick Jr. is specifically looking for a skilled sand artist who has experience creating large-scale sand sculptures. Maybe you happen to be a filmmaker and awesome sand artist as well. Great! Let us know about some of the sand sculptures you've created in the "Links to samples of your previous work" section of the submission form. If you don't have sand art experience yourself, but plan on partnering with someone who does, make sure to specify who will be creating the sand sculpture in your pitch treatment (and share some links to their work).

The goal is to create something that is large, eye-catching, and aspirational - something only a professional could have made. Check out this video for some sandy inspiration. As far as WHAT you'll be creating, your sand sculpture should depict a key character or element from Santiago of the Seas. Nick Jr. wants to hear what YOU want to create, but some suggestions could be El Bravo ship or Kiko the Frog.

You'll want to bring your sand sculpture to life in an engaging way, and Nick Jr. would like you to create a short video for social media (up to :30 max) where we see a timelapse of the creation of the sand sculpture, and then a grand reveal of the finished product at the end. Depending on your execution, we may ask you to edit in some scenes and/or characters from the show, and if so, those assets would be provided to you by Nick Jr. Also, while you could create your sand sculpture on a beach, you don't have to. If you'd prefer, you could create your sculpture in a studio setting.

Check out more information in the Background, and for any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

ABOUT SANTIAGO OF THE SEAS:

Santiago of the Seas is an interactive action-adventure series for preschoolers. It follows Santiago Montes, an 8-year old island-dwelling boy who unearths the mystical compass of fabled pirate Capitán Calavera, the good pirate of the High Seas. With compass in hand and help from his best mates, cousin Tomás and Lorelai the mermaid, along with his pet frog Kiko, Santiago goes on heroic quests and rescues on Calavera’s pirate ship, El Bravo. But it's not all smooth sailing! Santiago and his crew must outsmart and out-pirate nefarious villains in order to protect the treasures of Isla Encanto.

EXAMPLES OF SUCCESSFUL NICK JR. SOCIAL CONTENT:

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 or fewer characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this video.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video and sand sculpture work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Please see the full payment schedule in the Assets section.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to shooting, filmmakers must receive the below approvals from the Sponsor.

  • TREATMENT WITH MOCKUP: This project requires treatment approval. The treatment should describe how you plan to execute the video and how you plan to bring the storytelling to life visually. The treatment should also include a mockup of the sand sculpture you'll be creating. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your treatment and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a treatment is approved by the Sponsor.
  • LOCATION (If Applicable): This project requires location approval. This means you will need to submit multiple images of your primary filming location. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your location and ask you to submit additional photos or to find a new location and submit images for that.

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a treatment, production budget, storyboards, shot list, call sheet, and a music cue sheet. Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present cast, location, and wardrobe options to the Sponsor. They can all be accessed here.
