Create a relatable and fun broadcast video that supports an ongoing brand refresh that establishes Match as the dating app for emotionally mature singles.

You must plan on providing a secure option for remote viewing during production. See Executional Mandatories for more information.

If you're single, dating apps have become a fundamental part of the modern dating experience, and it's become something that anyone can relate to, especially as it's made its way into the broader world of pop culture. Match has been there since the beginning, but they've evolved tremendously since, and now they want to change the perception that Match is "your mom's dating site."

For this project, Match is looking for a fun and light broadcast video (and potentially some social content as well) that ultimately leads to app registrations, and that communicates the idea that Match is the place for emotionally mature singles. This isn't about hookups or casual flings, and while most people have already heard of Match, the brand wants to be top of mind for high quality, relationship-focused singles.

We need something that feels clever and unexpected - something that's going to be unique to Match, that's going to break through and stay with the viewer. There's a lot of testimonial style dating content out there, so we definitely want to stay away from that, but it's still very important that your video also feels relatable, because viewers need to see themselves in these videos. Think about common behaviors associated with modern dating culture that people will relate to, and consider how you might incorporate a humorous approach that doesn't take itself too seriously. Please avoid negative representations of being single or making fun of other dating apps.

Creatively, everything is on the table stylistically and narratively. That means live-action, motion graphics, and hybrid productions are all worth considering in some way, and the sky's the limit on how you bring this project to life.

In addition to the main :30 broadcast spot, Match would like two short vertical videos that use the same actors but in a different scenario, and in an execution that is highly specific to TikTok and Instagram Reels. They will NOT consider a simple reframe or a cutdown of the broadcast spot, and if you are unable to deliver effectively on the vertical executions, then this is NOT guaranteed to be a part of your project scope, and your budget will be reduced by about $12,000. We highly encourage you to bring on a social specialist who has experience creating engaging and high-performing TikTok content. Please talk to how you will bring the social-first content to life, including examples of how your social media specialist has done so in the past.

Check out more information in the Background, and for any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

  • Do NOT have real singles talking to camera in a general sense – we’ve oversaturated this type of creative in the past.

OPEN BID:

  • This is an open bid project, so you will get to set your own budget proposal up to $82,000. The Sponsor is interested in seeing tiered pricing options, so please feel free to submit various versions of your pitch at budget, target, and reach price points within that price range. If you are unable to address the social video element, your budget may be reduced by up to $12,000.
  • By participating in this open bid project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a bid. Though most open bid projects on our platform do move forward with a greenlit bid, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any bids via the project forum. Regardless of the result, all open bid submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the project team.

Shooting live action or stop motion? Our priority is ensuring everyone's safety, and we're now requiring a COVID safety protocol plan for all relevant productions. Please review our COVID-19 Production Safety Guide and check federal, state, and local rules before and during your shoot to make sure your on-set protocols are up to date. We're working hard to keep people working during this extraordinary time, and you should ensure your submission is executable within the anticipated timeline and budget, while also ensuring everyone's safety.

KEY CAMPAIGN MESSAGES

At Match we believe that putting yourself first is the key to unlocking who you really are, what you want, what you need, and how to ask for it. The best relationships show up when you show up for yourself first. If you believe this too, Match is the place for you.

Match is the place where:

  • Emotional maturity is sexy.
  • Articulating & maintaining standards and uniqueness are encouraged.
  • Finding a partner who meets your standards is possible.

Key Differentiators:

  • Match members are high-quality adults who know who they are and what they want
  • A new feature that gives you access to people who want to go on a date this weekend, offered in a low pressure, just go environment
  • Vibe Check - A video chat with a date before meeting them in person
  • IRL Events - Access to local events to discover more about yourself and meet new people
  • Get matched by us OR search through members yourself
  • Dating Experts who provide hand-picked matches for you
  • Safety features like background checks and Date Check-in

Upcoming Brand Campaign narrative; launching 10/18:

Match believes the most important relationship is with yourself. So we say: In a world where you can choose to do anything – or anyone– choose to do you first. Doing you is the key to unlocking who you really are, what you want, what you need and how to ask for it.

The best relationships show up when you show up for yourself first, because dating someone who is unapologetically themselves - someone who knows exactly who they are and what they want - it's sexy as hell.

REFERENCE VIDEOS FOR INSPIRATION OR TONE:

BRAND BACKGROUND

Match is now fully accessible to everyone (via their free version), and with features like Vibe Check (video chat), IRL events and dating experts at your fingertips – the product is fully primed for singles in the current climate. However, the brand continues to overcome emotional perceptions from the last decade that act as barriers to product adoption today, namely that there “aren’t people like me” on the platform, Match is/was “my mom’s dating site” and product barriers around paywalls and ease of use. In order to change this perception, we need to increase new high quality members on the product, and deliver them matches that resonate.

We launched the Adults Date Better campaign in August of last year to reframe perception around who Match is for and our brand stance. The idea of emotional maturity is clearly resonating with singles, especially in this post-pandemic period, where time is valuable,

priorities have shifted and there is very little room for BS when it comes to dating. Based on messaging we’ve tested, we’ve found that singles resonate more with the lighter nature of real-life adult dating behavior over the sometimes emotional, sentimental moments that

deal with tougher issues.

To address the perception challenges above, Match is undergoing a brand refresh, evaluating and updating key brand identity elements like mission, brand promise & value prop, brand values and more. This crucial identity work is in progress, but we know that the concept

of emotional maturity is one that will continue to be a primary pillar for Match.

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): Up to 500 characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and produce the content listed out in the Deliverables.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A more detailed and specific description of how you propose to execute all of the content listed out in the Deliverables, both in terms of what we can expect to see, and how you’ll make it. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • BID/BUDGET (REQUIRED): This is an open bid project, so you’ll get to set your overall budget proposal. The Sponsor would like each producer to create all of the videos listed in the Deliverables section up to a total budget  of $82,000. Please ensure that your budget factors in appropriate COVID safety protocols (i.e. testing, PPE, cleaning supplies, backup talent, etc.). You can download the budget template here.

  • COVID PROTOCOL (REQUIRED): Please let us know your team’s COVID safety protocols for production. If you’re doing everything yourself, or your team will be working 100% remotely, let us know that this won’t apply. Otherwise, at the very minimum, your safety plan must include information about:
    • What city and state you plan to film in
    • Whether you are filming interiors or exteriors
    • Approximately how many people you plan to have on set
    • How you’ll account for testing, PPE, and distancing on set
    • How you’ll handle talent and backup talent, including any hair, make-up, and wardrobe needs
    • Whether you’ll have a dedicated compliance officer on set

  • APPRENTICESHIP ADVISOR (Optional): The Tongal On-Set Apprenticeship Program is an opportunity to support new & emerging talent in production positions with hands-on on-set experience. Please indicate on the pitch submission form if you would be interested in overseeing an apprentice on your production; your answer will neither increase nor decrease the likelihood of your pitch being greenlit. Tongal will cover the apprentice's day rate outside of your project budget, and if you are matched with an apprentice, your Tongal producer will reach out with more information. To learn more about the On-Set Apprenticeship Program and the responsibilities of an advisor, please click HERE.

  • SCRIPT (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.

  • STORYBOARDS (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. You can download the Tongal storyboard template here.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to shooting, filmmakers must receive the below approvals from the Sponsor.

  • SCRIPT: This project requires script approval. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a script is approved by the Sponsor.
  • CASTING: This project requires casting approval. Tongal advocates for inclusivity in on-screen representation and diversity in casting. As a best practice, please submit three to four options per role, with at least one of those options being a person of color. If the Sponsor does not approve any of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new actor options. Additionally, owing to the risk of disruption from COVID, you will be expected to have backup talent approved by the Sponsor in advance of production to account for any last-minute changes.
  • STORYBOARDS: This project requires storyboards approval. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your storyboards and ask you to submit a new version.
  • LOCATION: This project requires location approval. This means you will need to submit multiple images of your primary filming location. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your location and ask you to submit additional photos or to find a new location and submit images for that.
  • WARDROBE: This project requires wardrobe approval. You will need to submit descriptions and/or pictures of your cast’s wardrobe. You must submit at least two wardrobe options per role. If the Sponsor does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new wardrobe options.

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a treatment, production budget, storyboards, shot list, call sheet, and a music cue sheet. Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present cast, location, and wardrobe options to the Sponsor. They can all be accessed here.

BUILDING YOUR TEAM: Tongal supports inclusivity in all of our productions and strongly encourages you to hire diverse talent for your team. To find staff & crew in your area, check out these resources and partners.

REVISION REQUIREMENTS & RESOURCES: Once the Video Phase has closed, the greenlit submitters will enter the Revisions Phase. Filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback. Check out our Filmmaker Resource Portal to access helpful post-production resources like Text-Safe Guides for different platforms, Project File Organization Tutorial, Export Presets, and Captioning services.

MUSIC: Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Jingle Punks, Universal Production Music and Epidemic Sound, any of which can be used to source music for your video submission to this project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into submissions to this project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the providers’ names above.

If you choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from third-party catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with your license purchase receipt when you turn in your video paperwork.
