So You Want To Learn On-Set Production?
The Tongal On-Set Apprenticeship Program is designed to equip aspiring Filmmakers and Creators with the tools and hands-on experience to learn the mechanics of live-action production and client expectations on set.
Guided by seasoned Filmmakers and Creators in the Tongal community, apprentices will learn: how to prepare for real-world work experiences on set; how to collaborate with crew members; what's expected from pre-production to live, on-set production, to post-production; how to capitalize on the potential to generate future work opportunities; and how to secure production credits for their resumes and reels.
PROGRAM DETAILS

Phase 1 | Pre-Production
When a Tongal production is confirmed in your area, we’ll reach out to gauge your availability to be an on-set apprentice. As an apprentice, you will have at least one meet-and-greet call with your Tongal mentor and/or relevant department head. Depending on your production department/role, you may also have the opportunity to attend additional pre-production meetings.
Phase 2 | Production
During production, Tongal will cover your day rate for the shoot. You’ll be asked to commit to a full shoot day (generally 8-10 hours). You will shadow your Tongal mentor and/or relevant department head on a live production where you will assist with on set duties.
Phase 3 | Wrap & Debrief
After your production wraps, you will be asked to complete a wrap survey – we want to know what you thought of the program!

Tongal will help match you with live-action production opportunities, coordinate one-on-one guidance and prep ahead of the shoot, and cover your day rate during production! Learn more and apply by August 14th at 12pm PT.

APPRENTICE ADVISORS: WHAT TO KNOW
As an on-set Advisor, you will oversee an apprentice during the pre-production and production phase of your project to guide them as they build upon their current skills, gain on-hands on-set experience, and develop long-term career goals. By raising your hand to participate in this program, you and/or a designated department head on your team will be expected to: – Guide your apprentice during pre-production – Loop your apprentice in on any necessary pre-production discussions, if relevant to their department/interests – Ensure that the apprentice understands their role, responsibilities, and departmental hierarchy during production on set – And hold a wrap-up call with your apprentice after production to review their experience.
Tongal's On-Set Apprenticeship Program team will coordinate with you to set you up with your apprentice and review the training guidelines for the program and will make themselves available to you and the apprentice for check-ins throughout pre-production, production, and wrap.
