Produce a suite of three social videos for a Gen-Z target audience that helps debunk myths and scams related to personal finances and banking.
Navy Federal Credit Union is a financial instituted serving the military, veterans and their families that was founded during the Great Depression by 7 Navy Department employees who wanted to help themselves and their co-workers reach their financial goals. They wanted to encourage building financial security by providing a safe place to deposit their savings. Navy Federal Credit Union is built on a strong foundation and a focus to provide their members with service, commitment, and integrity. So it's no surprise they extend that foundation to their social media presence, aiming to support members and non-members alike in developing healthy financial habits by making the sometimes boring (and intimidating!) financial world a bit more upbeat, fun, and approachable.
The goal of this project is to demystify, identify, and debunk a few different myths and scams related to personal finances and banking by creating relatable and honest social first videos that break down finance-related concepts and advice into bite size portions. As for the specific myths & scams they want to cover, Navy Federal will provide an overview of each topic but it will be up to you to take that overview, distill it down, and craft it into a cohesive script. You can review the three specific topic overviews for these videos in the Background.
In terms of format and execution, Navy Federal is primarily looking for live-action executions with someone talking to camera, though they are open to animation, motion graphics, and even stop motion so long as the proposed idea does not come across as too youthful or elementary. Knowing that the brand is looking for particularly savvy social content, "live-action" can include selfie-style content or even green-screen formats that blend some live action with other visuals. This can be lo-fi smartphone-shot content, or it can be more polished and professional as long as the core focus remains on the topics being broken down. In the Background, you will find some inspiration from what other brands in the financial space are doing. It is not necessary for you to have a large team or extensive production capacities to execute this project.
At their heart, these videos are brand awareness pieces that share information and watch outs with viewers, leaving them feeling better equipped to spot scams and not buy into the myths circulating on the internet. They're not looking for overly elaborate "commercial" executions and the brand is most interested in having these videos feel native to social platforms. They do not want these videos to come off as generic, obvious advertisements. If casting live-action, the brand is open to reusing the same cast, locations, and even music across all videos. Captions will need to burned into the final videos for any spoken word or VO. Please consider how this might impact your visuals keeping the text safe zones for the respective social platforms in mind.
Note that there is another Navy Federal project live on Tongal right now with a similar ask, and they are willing to consider the same filmmaker(s) for both projects. If you plan to pitch on both projects please be sure to differentiate your pitches, as your approach will need to be different for each project. In order to be considered, include the below materials in your submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery. All Pitches remain private, even after a Pitch is selected, and Tongal strives to have Pitch selections made by the end of the Evaluation period, but additional time may be required by the Sponsor, depending on any number of factors.
The most compelling pitch will be greenlit by the Sponsor, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.
Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal, typically included with the project timeline.
