At Home with Amy Sedaris Craft and Cooking Spoof Videos Project
Pitch
03/24/20 - 04/01/20

Create crafting and cooking spoof videos to support the season 3 launch of At Home with Amy Sedaris on TruTV.

Okay, question: why do crafting and cooking videos take themselves so seriously? It seems like every other video on social media offers some tutorial or recipe that's going to improve your focus, grow your hair, and clear your skin. But if we're being honest, when has an overly-earnest video for cinnamon rolls or a DIY cleaning solution ever lived up to all of its lofty promises?

That's what we love about At Home with Amy Sedaris. This super quirky, wacky, and ultimately charming show brings to life all of the crafting and cooking tutorials you didn't know you needed, every week on TruTV. From relaxing a turkey (very important!) to tips to avoid crafting accidents, Amy, her characters, and some famous friends share tutorials that you never knew you needed...because you didn't.

Now TruTV is looking for Tongal filmmakers to bring their own kooky tutorial spoofs to life as a suite of social videos to help support the season 3 launch of At Home with Amy Sedaris. Your videos will extend the show's universe to connect with existing and new fans on social.

They're open to live-action, stop motion, or animation and a variety of formats, including top-down tutorials like this or the "With Me" format. You can choose to base your pitch on either Crafting Tutorials, Cooking Tutorials, or both. Your videos should look and feel like they belong in the universe of At Home with Amy Sedaris: a kitschy take on a home kitchen or crafting nook and tutorials and recipes for an incredibly niche audience.

Our priority is to make sure everyone is safe. Along with that, we’re working really hard to keep people working during this strange time. Our advice here is to submit only if you feel you can do something within the anticipated timeline that ensures everyone's safety given today's reality.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Your videos should work with sound off

OPEN BID:

  • This is an open bid project, so you will get to set your own budget proposal, up to $2,000 per video, for up to three videos (Crafting or Cooking) or up to six videos against both categories. The Sponsor is interested in seeing tiered pricing options, so please feel free to submit various versions of your pitch at budget, target, and reach price points within that price range.
  • By participating in this open bid project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a bid. Though most open bid projects on our platform do move forward with a greenlit bid, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any bids via the project forum. Regardless of the result, all open bid submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the project team.

On At Home with Amy Sedaris, Amy Sedaris cordially invites you into her home, where she will show off diverse but necessary homemaking skills, from creating popsicle-stick buddies and gutting a fish to making raisin necklaces and entertaining businessmen. As always, Amy will use her unique expertise to entertain guests, demonstrate her know-how by preparing meals and exhibit her can-do spirit by attempting to work out personal issues. Remember, if you want to be the perfect host, accentuate the positives and medicate the negatives.

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this video.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • BUDGET (REQUIRED): This is an open bid project, so you’ll get to set your overall budget proposal. You can download the budget template here. The Sponsor would like each producer to create up to six videos (three Crafting, three Cooking) with a cost range of up to $2,000 per video.

  • SCRIPT (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.

  • STORYBOARDS (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. You can download the Tongal storyboard template here.

  • HEADSHOTS/CASTING BOARDS (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitches will be greenlit, and upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment, the responsible creator will receive funding. Please note: the payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Please see the full payment schedule in the Assets section.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to shooting, filmmakers must receive the below approvals from the Sponsor.

  • TREATMENT: This project requires treatment approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The treatment should describe each tutorial and how you'll execute it. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your treatment and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a treatment is approved by the Sponsor.
  • CASTING: This project requires casting approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. If your videos involve casting (voice, hand, actor) you must submit at least two actor options per role. If the Sponsor does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new actor options.
  • SET DECORATION/STYLING: This project requires set decoration/styling approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. This means you will need to submit multiple images of your primary set decorations/styling choices. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your set decorations/styling choices and ask you to submit additional photos or to find and submit images for that.
  • ANIMATIC (For Animators): This project requires animatic approval for animation production. Given the short timeline, your animatics can be rough, but should provide a sense of action, pacing, and creative for your videos. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your animatics and ask you to submit new versions. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until an animatic is approved by the Sponsor.

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a treatment, production budget, storyboards, shot list, call sheet, and a music cue sheet. Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present cast, location, and wardrobe options to the Sponsor. They can all be accessed here.

REVISION REQUIREMENTS: Once the Video Phase has closed, the greenlit submitters will enter the Revisions Phase. Filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback.
