Create three (3) 6 or 15-second vibrant, upbeat videos that celebrate the unmatched flavor of Starbucks Frappuccino bottled coffee drinks.

Known for its high-quality ingredients and unbeatable flavors, Starbucks has become a daily staple for consumers around the world.

Starbucks’ Frappuccino bottled coffee drinks are available in Starbucks stores (plus a variety of other retailers) and in an ever-expanding list of flavors - including their Core Lineup of Caramel, Mocha, Vanilla, & Coffee.  Frappuccino bottled coffees are a delicious indulgence that put people in their happy place and make life more enjoyable!

Starbucks is looking to the Tongal Community to create short digital videos that are positive, uplifting, and passionate about the unmatched flavor of Frappuccino bottled coffees.  They want to switch up their traditional marketing mix to authentically capture a new wave of Gen Z and Millennials savoring the bold flavors of these sweet and creamy coffee beverages.

To get a sense of the classic Frappuccino personality, take a look at the existing “Flavor Like No Other” campaign.  Your videos should ladder up to the “Flavor Like No Other” campaign, but also evolve and expand the creative approach.  Starbucks wants to see new and original ideas - so don’t just duplicate existing Frappuccino content.  They’re open to takes with animation, motion graphics, stop motion - anything is fair game!  Just keep in mind the relatively tight timeline and YouTube best practices (more on that below).  And remember, your videos should ultimately inspire viewers to buy more Frappuccino bottled coffee, of course!

The goal for this project is to produce (3) 6 or 15 second videos for YouTube that celebrate the bold flavors and fun, vibrant energy of Starbucks’ Frappuccino bottled coffee drinks.  Starbucks is looking for the filmmaker to create both 6 and 15 sec videos - the mix can be up to you, but we definitely want to see both lengths.  All three of the videos should highlight the 4 Core Frappuccino Flavors: Mocha, Caramel, Vanilla, and Coffee.

We want people to watch these videos and be sparked not only to buy more Frappuccino bottled coffee drinks, but also to spread the word about the bold and delicious flavors.

This is an open bid project, so you will get to set your own budget proposal within the $30-60K range. Starbucks is interested in seeing tiered pricing options, so please feel free to submit various versions of your pitch at budget, target, and reach price points within that price range.

Please Note: By participating in this Open Bid project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to select a winning Bid. Though most Open Bid projects on our platform do move forward with a selected Bid, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to award any Bids via the Project Forum. Regardless of the result, all Open Bid submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the Project Team.

--Key Marketing Messages:

  • Frappuccino bottled coffees feature high-quality, premium ingredients and a bold range of flavors.
  • The Frappuccino brand is fun, bold, and adventurous - just like its fans. And also just like its fans, it is never pretentious or negative.

--Target Audience:

  • Primary target is the Millennial audience, with a secondary focus on the Gen Z audience
  • Women across both age demographics
  • These female consumers are impulse-driven, fun-loving, and believe in self-expression. They count on delicious coffee beverages with bold flavors to boost their energy and elevate their enjoyment of life. They are flavor fanatics always on the hunt for variety, excitement, and what’s “hot right now.”  They seek out new experiences, they’re adventurous, and they’re curious with flavors.

--Executional Mandatories:

  • Videos should feature the “Flavor Like No Other” tagline.
  • Videos should feature the iconic aspects of the Frappuccino brand: bottle shape, pop of cap, delicious flavors, superior coffee quality & fun brand personality.
  • Videos should feature an end card (to be created by the filmmaker) highlighting all of the Core Flavors (Mocha, Caramel, Vanilla, and Coffee) with prominent Starbucks branding (including the Siren logo).
  • All (3) of the videos should focus on celebrating Frappuccino’s line of 4 classic Core Flavors: Mocha, Caramel, Vanilla, and Coffee.

--Tone:

  • Vibrant and upbeat; Bold and youthful. Videos should avoid pretentiousness at all costs!
  • Videos should also ladder up to the premium feel and sophisticated look of the Starbucks overall brand.

--Exposure:

Videos will be published on YouTube as pre-roll, mid-roll, and bumper content.

End Card:

The winning filmmaker will be required to create an end card to be used in each of the videos. End cards should highlight the signature Frappuccino bottle shape and prominent Starbucks branding (including the Siren logo).

This Project is open bid and consists of 5 Phases: a Pitch Phase, Pre-Production Phase, Video Phase, Revisions Phase, and Asset Delivery Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

You can find information on best practices for YouTube here.

PHASE 1: PITCH:

This is an open bid project, so you’ll get to set your overall budget proposal. You can download the Budget template here. The Sponsor would like each filmmaker to create (3) 6 or 15-second videos with a cost range of $30-60K. They are open to receiving tiered pricing options, so please feel free to submit ideas of various budgets within that cost range.

Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?)  convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute (3) Videos celebrating the flavor and personality of Starbucks Frappuccino bottled coffee drinks.

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute these Videos.
  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.
  • Treatment (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the videos. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a Treatment template, which you can find here.
  • Budget (REQUIRED): A detailed breakdown of the budget you think you’ll need to execute the videos. We’ve provided a Budget template, which you can find here. Reminder that you are encouraged to submit tiered pricing options for this project, so please feel free to submit budget, target, and reach budget templates with your pitch.
  • Beverage Stylist (REQUIRED): A short bio on the beverage stylist you plan to work with for these videos, as well as examples of their previous video work. If it’s helpful to you, we’ve provided a Stylist Approval template, which you can find here.
  • Pitch Video (Optional): But highly recommended! This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.
  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the videos you intend to create.
  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. You can download the Tongal storyboard template here.
  • Headshots/Casting Boards (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.

The most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will receive funding for their proposed budget to help create the Videos.  Please note the payment of the Pitch award is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. For examples of effective Pitches, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 2: PRE-PRODUCTION

The Pitch Winner from the Pitch Phase will enter the Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will be required to submit the following Approvals to the brand (some are only relevant if live action):

  • SCRIPT & STORYBOARD – This project requires Script & Storyboard Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The brand may provide feedback and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until it’s approved by the brand.
  • HEADSHOT / CASTING – This project requires Headshot Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You must submit at least two actor options per role. If the brand does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new actor options.
  • LOCATION – This project requires Location Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. This means you will need to submit multiple images of your primary filming. The brand may provide feedback on your location and ask you to submit additional photos or to find a new location and submit images for that.
  • WARDROBE – This project requires Wardrobe Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You will need to submit descriptions and/or pictures of your cast’s wardrobe. You must submit at least two wardrobe options per role. If the brand does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new wardrobe options.
  • MUSIC SUPERVISION – This project requires Music Supervision Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You must submit music samples that illustrate the direction of the music you plan to use in the completed video. The brand may provide feedback on your music selections and ask you to submit additional music options.
  • BEVERAGE STYLIST – This project requires Beverage Stylist Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You must submit your planned Stylist with your Pitch submission. Once chosen as a Pitch Winner, the brand may either approve your Stylist or ask you to submit a new one for Approval.

No filmmakers may begin shooting their Video until all Approvals are completed and the Video Phase has officially begun. If you begin shooting your Video during the Pre-Production Phase before you have received final approval, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense).

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a Treatment, Production Budget, Storyboards, Shot List, Call Sheet, and a Music Cue Sheet.  Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present the Sponsor cast, location, and wardrobe options. They can all be accessed here.

PHASE 3: VIDEO

Once the Pre-Production Phase is complete, the Pitch Winner will each create (3) 6 or 15-second Videos based upon their winning Pitch.

--Video Phase Payout: Upon submitting 3 Videos that satisfy the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, completing Sponsor notes, providing the necessary release forms, and providing all assets required by the Sponsor, the Pitch winner will receive the remainder of their approved budget.

--Music:  Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Jingle Punks, Killer Tracks and Epidemic Sound, any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.

Tongal members interested in a more customized music solution for your project are invited to connect with our partner Score A Score. Email a brief description of your project (timing, creative, budget, etc.), along with any specific music direction and/or references to their creative team at music@scoreascore.com and include “Tongal Project - Your Name” in the subject line.  Their creative team will be in touch within a few minutes to discuss the simple process and options with you. Please note that you will be responsible for the fees associated with using Score A Score.

If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from third-party catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with your license purchase receipt when you turn in your Video paperwork.

PHASE 4: REVISIONS

Once the Video Phase has closed, the winning submitters will enter the Revisions Phase (What is a Revisions Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their Videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback.
