Create a :30 TrueView video for RoadRunner, an end-to-end waste management and recycling service for businesses large and small.

The goal of this project is to create a :30 video that introduces viewers to the RoadRunner brand, shows how they can help businesses recycle more and spend less, and ends with a call-to-action driving viewers to their website to get started!

The Sponsor wants viewers to understand how RoadRunner works and why it is the better option + can be a company’s go-to partner to handle all of their waste and recycling needs — from waste analysis, to expertly-crafted waste & recycling programs, to flexible pickup scheduling, and ongoing sustainability measurement & management — RoadRunner is transforming the recycling landscape through its use of technology and dedicated service while helping companies save time, resources, and money in the process.

Watch this RoadRunner Recycling Overview Video to get a better sense of their business and industry.

RoadRunner is open to:

  • Live-Action (They have raw footage from the Overview Video that they can share!)
  • Animation
  • Live-Action with Animation / Motion Graphics

DELIVERABLES: Four total deliverables:

  • One :30 video (16x9)
  • Three alternate :30 versions (16x9). Alternate variations will involve the same characters, locations, and script, and will mostly involve small changes that can be handled in post-production, including changes to CTAs, end-card designs, on-screen text copy, and other minor edits. Additionally, depending on where the creative lands, a version may include a slight variation to the script. This will be decided between the selected producer and client during scripting.

TIMELINE:  For the full project timeline please see the Assets section.

EXPOSURE:  YouTube. For YouTube TrueView for action best practices please click here.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Decision-makers within a company who handle waste & recycling operations, oftentimes at a variety of locations. For example: Operations Managers, Director of Operations, Sustainability Managers, Facility Managers, Procurement Specialists, and more. For smaller or medium-sized businesses, that might be the business owner or store manager.
  • These managers aren't always aware that there are better options out there because they're used to the dumpsters that they've had outside their office for years or they don't realize they're paying so much money for waste and recycling services. ("I have all these bills, I have to manage all these locations, but I don't have time for that.") ...your video is going to help position RoadRunner as the solution!
  • As a waste hauling negotiator & recycling provider, their service is applicable to a number of businesses across a variety of industries, like:
    • Healthcare (esp with COVID-19)

    • Commercial Real Estate / Property Management

    • Multi-Family Housing

    • Logistics (Shipping/Distribution)

    • Manufacturing/Industrial

    • Construction

    • Retail & Shopping Malls (includes Grocery Stores)

    • Restaurants & Food Service

    • Schools & Universities

TONE:  Engaging, informative, friendly. Should demonstrate their industry expertise (waste/recycling).

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • In terms of versioning, we might try the following CALLS-TO-ACTION: Call Us (phone #), Learn More, Get Started (click link)

Our priority is ensuring everyone's safety, so please review our COVID-19 Production Safety Guide and check federal, state, and local rules before and during your shoot to make sure your on-set protocols are up to date. We’re working hard to keep people working during this extraordinary time, and our advice here is to make sure your submission is executable within the anticipated timeline, while also ensuring everyone's safety.

RoadRunner Recycling has disrupted the recycling industry! They are an end-to-end, sustainable waste stream management company that primarily helps businesses divert waste from landfill, increase recycling rates, and decrease recurring costs related to comprehensive waste management. Through RoadRunner's unparalleled technology, expertise in the waste industry, dedicated hauling partners, and exceptional customer service team, they develop customized programs for commercial businesses to increase their sustainability through negotiating the best waste hauling rates, providing the equipment & services necessary to recycle more, and guaranteeing contracted savings that impacts their customers’ bottom line.

RoadRunner also solves for unique waste challenges whether they’re one-off issues like bulk pickups, junk hauling, recycling events, e-waste removal, and more OR more nuanced, ongoing challenges such as a multi-national corporations looking to clean up their supply chain or dispose of a type of waste they’re unsure of how to remove sustainably—this includes, but is not limited to, medical waste, manufacturing waste, and more.

  • Read this Case Study to see how  RoadRunner helped Forman Mills save nearly $15,000 a month from monthly waste and recycling bills of over $75,000.

  • And check out this BusinessWire Article with their growth stats, "To date, RoadRunner has expanded to serve more than 6,000 customers, and has helped businesses divert approximately 130,000 tons of waste from landfills while also increasing recycling rates by 10x their average and saving more than $20 million on recurring waste and recycling costs."

THOUGHT-STARTERS:

  • Highlight the reality of traditional waste/recycling industry: The costs are ever increasing while recycling rates are lower than they’ve ever been!

    • Equipment is inefficient: Bulky garbage trucks with ~3% or less miles per gallon, inefficient sorting facilities, a lot of recyclable material in landfill

    • Setting up the “problem” before transitioning to “a better way” and a presentation of RoadRunner’s approach & recycling solutions

  • Different facilities where waste & recyclable materials are generated (retail stores, manufacturing/shipping warehouses, apartment complexes, office buildings, universities, etc.)

  • Employees/Students/Managers/etc. explaining & then using RoadRunner’s “clean stream” process for separating waste & recyclable materials at the source of creation, i.e. paper, metal, plastic, cardboard, MSW (municipal solid waste) being disposed of in the correct containers (color coded).
  • Fleethaul (the name of our hauling part of the business) partners (trusted individuals that have their own box truck/equipment) picking up waste & recyclables. Think - “Uber of Commercial Recycling” but do not market RoadRunner with that tagline.
  • Highlight RoadRunner’s differentiated approach to commercial recycling - Clean-stream model where materials are separated on-site at our customer’s locations. Recyclable are hauled directly to nearby recycling centers (avoiding the separating facility (MRF) which traditional haulers use and often results in 80%+ of recyclables collected in landfill) proving out high rates of recycling & lowered recurring costs for businesses/customers

REFERENCE VIDEOS FOR INSPIRATION OR TONE:

  • This Mint.com explainer video of what the company does is a good example of taking complex ideas and simplifying.

  • This inspirational video helps explain the “voice” & “intention” behind the UPS brand. The visuals are enticing and the script is straightforward.

  • The storytelling behind this video, how it helps explain a “problem” and the ethical importance of supporting better processes around growing & selling coffee. This type of framing could be used to explain what’s wrong with the traditional waste/recycling industry, how it impacts businesses (high costs) and our planet (bad environmental practices), and then positions RoadRunner as the solution/how they're changing that.

  • This video by Comcast Business does a nice job of using an analogy (i.e. the highway) to explain the core benefits of using their services.
