The Church is looking to create a pilot for a series of relatable religious videos for YouTube showing the influence of Jesus Christ.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is looking to create a pilot for an ongoing series of relatable religious videos for YouTube based on one of the two concepts down below, and with a runtime of up to 8-9 minutes. At this stage, apart from the concepts, many of the details associated with this project still need to be determined, or developed alongside a filmmaker, and while there are live action elements that are possible with either concept, this project could go in a number of directions, including animation, so we're keeping things more open-ended to get the conversation moving. We expect a heavy lift to be done in pre-production to develop and hone both of the concepts, and their potential executions, while aligning on a realistic production budget. The timeline here is also largely a placeholder, and we expect that additional conversations may be had with filmmakers who make the Church's shortlist.
Concept 1: Jesus Christ is - This would be a series that allows friends of the church to see Christ's hand in modern-day roles, using relatable stories or actions of real people, either with actors, or in a docu-style setting. For example, the video might follow a young woman who is a teacher. It would flash back to moments when Christ was a teacher and it would share a storyline of how this young woman is working hard to try and teach her class and how Christ had patience and always taught those who have gathered.
Concept 2: Christlike Analogies of His Gospel - These would be visually engaging and relatable analogies that illustrate aspects of Jesus Christ's character and teachings. Below are examples of relatable things that we could use to compare Christlike attributes and the gospel to things people will resonate with, and given the use of analogies, you could approach this in multiple ways, whether that be with the use of stock footage, live action video, 2D animation, motion graphics, or a mix of multiple styles. Each episode could focus on a different analogy, using storytelling, animation, and real-life examples to bring the analogy to life.
In your pitch treatment, please detail how you would produce the pilot, but speak to how you might turn this into a series with a sustainable format. You may pitch on both concepts, but if you do, please submit separate pitches. For any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

Hi everyone - The Sponsor has decided not to move forward with a Pitch on this project. Though most Projects do move forward with a selected Pitch, we will always notify you in the event the Sponsor has decided not to move forward. Please note that regardless of the results, all submissions are reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the Project Team. We sincerely appreciate your time and effort on this project.
In order to be considered, include the below materials in your submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery. All Pitches remain private, even after a Pitch is selected, and Tongal strives to have Pitch selections made by the end of the Evaluation period, but additional time may be required by the Sponsor, depending on any number of factors.
The most compelling pitch will be greenlit by the Sponsor, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.
Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal, typically included with the project timeline.
PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to the commencement of actual production, creators MUST receive final approval from the Sponsor on the elements below. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until an element is approved.
If you begin production before you have received final approval, you may need to reshoot or reanimate at your own expense.
For convenience, we've provided some helpful templates that you can consider using for pre-production materials, and they can all be accessed here.
