Reconnect for the Holidays: Latin America Live-Action Video Project
Pitch
10/02/20 - 10/08/20
Video
11/17/20 - 11/17/20

Produce a short, simple, and emotional live-action video, for both Mexico and Brazil, that shows how PayPal uniquely helps people reconnect this holiday season, and feel close even when they’re far apart.

2020 has been... a lot, to say the least. More than ever though, that makes this holiday season at a time to reconnect with all of those near and dear to us, and remind them that we care about them, love them, and miss them. We're not sure exactly what reconnecting looks like, but we know that for many of us, it'll involve finding the right gift online. For this project, PayPal is looking to show consumers in Mexico and Brazil how the brand fits into the holiday season, and how they help connect people with their loved ones by giving them unmatched secure access to businesses large and small, from anywhere in the world.

PayPal wants a simple, moving, and authentic live-action :15 video that'll work for both Mexico and Brazil. They want to generate an emotional connection between the brand and the younger consumers who are doing the most ecommerce, but clearly demonstrate the role they play by focusing on the checkout experience in particular. A gift or several gifts are going to be a big part of this story, and you'll want to think carefully about that, but the key thing is finding a way to show how people use online purchases to reconnect with friends or family, and how PayPal helps you feel close, even when you’re far apart.

Localized content is key here, and we're putting a premium on ensuring that this *feels* like it's made in and for the LATAM markets of Mexico and Brazil, in all respects. Videos will be delivered in Mexican Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese. Any locations should feel natural to these territories. Onscreen dialogue is discouraged, but VO could work. If you speak one (or both) languages, it's important that you call that out. If you need translation services for one or the other, we can help. Check out more in the Background / Additional Details.

DELIVERABLES: Minimum 8 total assets. Each asset must be delivered in Mexican Spanish & Brazilian Portuguese.

  • One :15 Video (16x9, 4x5)
  • One :06 Cutdown (16x9, 4x5)

TIMELINE:

EXPOSURE:

  • The primary targets are Mexico, followed by Brazil.
  • Most non-broadcast digital platforms will see exposure, including: YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pre-Roll, website, within emails, as well as other owned channels and paid media.
  • Please review the platform best practices page.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • PRIMARY: Digital Natives aka Young Professionals - They're under 30, and have always enjoyed a digital first life, but they're now frequently separated from loved ones at significant cultural moments.
  • SECONDARY: Small Businesses - They might actually be run by Digital Natives, but right now they're worried about the ongoing impacts of COVID-19 on their business and we want them to recognise that PayPal can give them access to a global audience by highlighting that in a year of social distancing around the world, more people will do their holiday spending online, than ever before.

TONE:

  • For the videos: authentic, relatable, optimistic, empathetic, inclusive, humble, clever - with a hint of charm and wit.
  • The brand itself values: integrity, trust, respect, empathy, collaboration, inclusion

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • The key takeaway - although not mandatory for messaging - is "PayPal helps you feel close even when you’re far apart, this holiday season." Your video must reflect that.
  • All videos MUST include the CTA "Shop with PayPal." That said, this is not a tagline, and if you develop a strong tagline here, they'd love to hear it.
  • Scripting must include English, as key stakeholders between each territory will still use English, and any translations should come from English to Spanish or Portuguese.
  • Showing a full checkout experience isn’t mandatory, but PayPal values the power/recognition of their yellow PayPal checkout button, and naturally & clearly implying that the talent is shopping online for the gift is important.
  • Purchases should revolve around the Mobile App experience, given that that's more likely for the target audience. English language assets HERE for reference. Note that any phones depicted while demonstrating the app should be unbranded.
  • Videos should carefully reflect social distancing guidelines and not show (or dwell) on activity that demonstrates risky behavior.

OPEN BID:

  • This is an open bid project, so you will get to set your own budget proposal up to $12,000 for the full suite.
  • By participating in this open bid project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a bid. Though most open bid projects on our platform do move forward with a greenlit bid, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any bids via the project forum. Regardless of the result, all open bid submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the project team.

Our priority is ensuring everyone's safety, so please review our COVID-19 Production Safety Guide and check federal, state, and local rules before and during your shoot to make sure your on-set protocols are up to date. We’re working hard to keep people working during this extraordinary time, and our advice here is to make sure your submission is executable within the anticipated timeline, while also ensuring everyone's safety.

PayPal wants to showcase their relevance in customers’ lives, through their eyes, in a positive way, while staying cognizant of the current environment globally – i.e. social distancing, masks, financial struggles, social activism, and the importance of racial inclusion. Since this is about "feeling close even when you're far apart," you may not need to show anyone in situations where their behavior (or attire) is impacted by COVID guidelines, but it can still impact gifting (i.e. holidays & travel are restricted), and anyone in a public setting around others will need to be masked.

Also, since the secondary target audience is small businesses, your choice of gift & merchant (depending on how that is displayed on screen) should subtly remind small business owners that there's a global audience shopping online this holiday season that they cna connect with through PayPal.
