Produce two engaging and empowering broadcast commercials (in English and Spanish) to raise awareness about prediabetes and inspire people to take action to see if they are at risk.

More than one in three American adults have prediabetes, which means they are on the road to type 2 diabetes and other serious health conditions. The good news is prediabetes can be reversed – and the Ad Council wants to educate the public about how to prevent type 2 diabetes and encourage them to take a short online test to see if they are at risk.

To that end, the Ad Council is looking to create two commercials for broadcast and social media. The first video should inspire people to take the online risk test, and the second video should encourage people in North Carolina to enroll in a free CDC type 2 diabetes prevention program. This second video should be modular in nature because this pilot program may expand to other states in the future. Your video can be live action, animation, motion graphics, or stock footage, as long as the information is presented in a clear and engaging way and utilizes the messaging provided by Ad Council (found in the Assets tab).

NOTE: Our priority is to make sure everyone is safe, and along with that, we’re working really hard to keep people working during this strange time. Our advice would be to submit only if you feel you can do something within the anticipated timeline that ensures everyone's safety given today's reality.

TIMELINE: For the full project timeline please see the Assets section.

EXPOSURE:

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Adults 40+ across sex, race, and ethnicity
  • Prediabetes skews slightly more to men and to the African-American and Hispanic communities, but this video should feel accessible to everyone.

TONE:

  • Serious and urgent but also hopeful and empowering about how type 2 diabetes can be prevented
  • We want to make this issue personally relevant as many people are unaware of prediabetes.
  • They want to get the information across in an engaging way in a tone that feels appropriate for the current moment... without putting people to sleep.
  • Visually, the Ad Council was inspired by this Ford F150 ad. It conveys factual information in a way that is engaging, digestible and empowering for the average viewer at home. They were also drawn to the clean and simple graphic style.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • You must be able to provide your own Spanish translations.
  • DO NOT depict food & diet imagery. The Ad Council wants to avoid stereotypes around diabetes about the health of people with the condition.
  • Prediabetes can affect anyone, so make sure your imagery and messaging are inclusive and diverse.
  • While you don't need to match the exact illustration style used for the online test website, you should use the same color scheme. Brand guidelines will be provided upon greenlight.
  • Your scripts should draw directly from the draft messaging provided by the Ad Council.
  • While your scripts don't need to match the draft messaging verbatim, the Ad Council isn't looking for a huge creative twist on the language.
  • There are two key messages your video MUST hit on: 1) one in three Americans have prediabetes; and 2) the risk test is short and easy to take (less than one minute).
  • The video focused on the free enrollment to the CDC-led program should also be modular in nature as this may expand to other states in the future.

Prediabetes means a person’s blood glucose (sugar) level is higher than normal, but not high enough yet for a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. If left untreated, prediabetes can progress into type 2 diabetes. One in three American adults has prediabetes - that's more than 84 million people.

With early diagnosis, prediabetes can often be reversed. By joining the National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP), you’ll learn how to make small changes, like altering your diet and exercising more, which can help reverse prediabetes and prevent type 2 diabetes.

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this video.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • STORYBOARDS (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. You can download the Tongal storyboard template here.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery.

All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment, the responsible creator will receive funding. Please note: the payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Please see the full payment schedule in the Assets section.
