Create instructional videos designed to provide professionals like Pokémon Professors with tools and mini-games to prepare new players as they start their Pokémon Trading Card and Video Games competitive adventures.
Gotta teach 'em all! Starting a new game can be intimidating, especially one with as much history and depth as the Pokémon Trading Card and Video Games. To help with this, Pokémon has created a program of tools, modules, and mini-games to help orient new players to the basic concepts and build them up to eventually participate in the full competitive game. And this is where you come in, bringing this program to life in two, Pokémon Play Lab videos! One focused on the Pokémon Trading Card Game and another on the video games such as the most recent Pokémon Scarlet and Violet games.
Since players come in all ages and abilities, the goal of this educational and instructional series is designed to give everyone their first steps into the Pokémon competitive environment. The modular Pokémon Trading Card Game approach tells the participants a story, which helps them remember some game elements. Playing the three modules one after another facilitates teaching a full Pokémon TCG game.
The Pokémon video game focused video will be less structured in modules and more dependent on your ability to teach and screen capture what happens in the game itself. In this video we'll tackle exploration of the world of Pokémon, the basics of how to catch and battle Pokémon, as well as a deeper dive into how to build your Pokémon team for competitive play.
The videos can be live-action, animation, or a mixture of both with dynamic motion graphics, as long as it strikes a fun balance of educational and entertainment. If your pitch includes a live-action approach, you can cast an actor as the Pokémon Professor, or find a real-world Pokémon fan to be the Professor. The choice is yours. The Pokémon team is open to different stylistic approaches and what innovative ways you plan on creating these instructional videos.
Please see the Pokémon Play Lab Guide in the Assets section as well as the Background for past project examples.
The videos will also need to be delivered in 7 different languages, including English, French, Italian, German, Castilian Spanish, Latin American Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese. Voice over or live-action spoken parts will need to be subbed and any onscreen text localized with the appropriate language. You will not be responsible for the translations; just delivering the final outputs. Translations will come after final delivery with separate timeline to be decided.

In order to be considered, include the below materials in your submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery. All Pitches remain private, even after a Pitch is selected, and Tongal strives to have Pitch selections made by the end of the Evaluation period, but additional time may be required by the Sponsor, depending on any number of factors.
The most compelling pitch will be greenlit by the Sponsor, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.
Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal, typically included with the project timeline.
PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to the commencement of actual production, creators MUST receive final approval from the Sponsor on the elements below. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until an element is approved.
If you begin production before you have received final approval, you may need to reshoot or reanimate at your own expense.
For convenience, we've provided some helpful templates that you can consider using for pre-production materials, and they can all be accessed here.
