Create a docu-style video following a Dayton, Ohio-based McDonald's Crew Member, and a monthly meetup she hosts for senior citizens in her community.

McDonald's has long been a kind of meeting space in communities across the country. That is true in Dayton, Ohio, where a McDonald's Crew Member has created a monthly meetup for senior citizens in the community called Coffee, Cards & Conversation. Each month, 15-20 seniors gather at their local McDonald's restaurant to play cards, connect, and enjoy coffee & pastries. The next event will be taking place at a McDonald's restaurant in Dayton on October 5th, and to help tell the story, McDonald's is looking for a filmmaker from Ohio or the surrounding area to capture the event and create a short docu-style video.

In terms of style, McDonald's is really looking for some simple staged interviews interwoven with b-roll to help tell the story of this event. We want to lead with the narrative of the McDonald's Crew Member, and use that as the lens to tell the story of this event. You can view an example of the style they'll be aiming for in the Background section below.

On the logistics front, we will be looking to capture all interviews and footage inside the restaurant on the day of the event. You will not be required to capture any additional footage outside of that location. The event will take place in the late morning, so we anticipate you'll want to arrive earlier that morning for setup, and you should be wrapped by the early afternoon. Representatives from McDonald's PR agency will be on site to help coordinate. It's also important to note that the restaurant will be open, so we'll need to ensure that we're keeping a small footprint, and not allowing production to interfere with the operation of the restaurant. We may use simple logo endcards and lower third text throughout the video, but you do not need to account for any motion graphics.

For your pitch treatment, please tell us a bit more about you, where you're based, any past docu-style work you've done, and how you would approach capturing this content on the day. And for any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

By participating in this project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a bid. Though most projects on our platform do move forward with a greenlit bid, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any bids via the project forum. Regardless of the result, all submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the project team.

Shooting live action or stop motion? Our priority is ensuring everyone's safety, and we're now requiring a COVID safety protocol plan for all relevant productions. Please review our COVID-19 Production Safety Guide and check federal, state, and local rules before and during your shoot to make sure your on-set protocols are up to date. We're working hard to keep people working during this extraordinary time, and you should ensure your submission is executable within the anticipated timeline and budget, while also ensuring everyone's safety.

REFERENCE VIDEO: McDonald's would like to replicate the style and tone of the below video when covering the Coffee, Cards & Conversation event. Though please note that the reference video includes multiple locations, while this project will only requiring filming on a single day in one location: in the Dayton, Ohio McDonald's restaurant.

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): Up to 500 characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and produce the content listed out in the Deliverables.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A more detailed and specific description of how you propose to execute all of the content listed out in the Deliverables, both in terms of what we can expect to see, and how you’ll make it. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Please see the full payment schedule in the Assets section.
