LEGO® DUPLO® is looking to create two animated videos (2-3-minutes in length) to go along with sing-along songs: The Counting Song (Original Composition) and The Wheels on the Bus.

** Project Update **

We're keeping the project open until Monday given the submission glitch this morning.

Sing-along songs are a part of every parent's life and in the form of animated music videos, have become a YouTube juggernaut, collecting billions of views from families around the world.

Working with Tongal, LEGO® DUPLO® is looking to create two of these super-charged YouTube animated videos (2-3-minutes in length) to go along with two sing-along songs: The Counting Song (Original Composition) and The Wheels on the Bus… all in DUPLO®!

If you’re interested in this project, please read below for more information:

  • We are looking for a 3-D/ 2-D combo animation execution for The Wheels on the Bus (3D animation for the outside of the bus and 2D animation for the inside of the bus)
  • We are looking for a 3-D animation execution for The Counting Song (Original Composition)
  • There are TWO (2) opportunities here (one for each song). Please pitch separately and use the drop-down menu to select which song the pitch is for.
  • The LEGO® DUPLO® sets to keep in mind are #10847 My First Number Train (The Counting Song) and #10851 My First Bus (The Wheels on the Bus)
  • Explore using a character (like the DUPLO® bunny) to open/ close the video and to give direction and authority.
  • Music will be composed specifically for your video and the audio files will be provided to you.
  • After pitch winners are determined, the pitch winners will need to finalize his/her animatic by September 17 so that the music composers can make any additional tweaks by October 15.
  • Pitch winners will receive the first draft music demo for The Counting Song on 8/31 and the first draft music demo for The Wheels on the Bus on 9/7.
  • This is an open bid project and you will need to submit your proposed budget along with your treatment in the Pitch Phase.
  • For #10847 My First Number Train, please use a more rural setting and for #10851 My First Bus, please use a city/ town setting.

What to Submit in Your Pitch:

  • Links to your past work.
  • Treatment giving a detailed narrative description of what will happen in the video and how you plan to execute it. Keep in mind it should be entertainment focused first and product focused second (if at all).
  • Proposed Budget (*See Budget Template in the Assets Tab): Instead of us dictating your budgets, we’re looking for you to let us know the amount you need in order to execute your video. Please provide explicitly how much you need. Budgets should fall between $15,000 and $30,000 per video. Your budget proposal is subject to approval if your pitch is selected. Please consider the most economical way to produce your video.

This project is open bid. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: PITCH - This is an open bid project, so you’ll get to set your overall budget proposal. You can download the budget template here. The sponsor would like each producer to create a 2-3-minute video with a cost range of $15,000 - $30,000 per video.

Submit your pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the sponsor why you should be selected to execute a video based on one of the winning concepts from the previous phase using:

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this video.

  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • Treatment (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • Bid and Budget Proposal (REQUIRED): This should include your bid and budget breakdown.

  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.

  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. You can download the Tongal storyboard template here.

  • Character Design (Optional): Character designs for the video.

  • Pitch Video (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatic, etc. are welcome.

The TWO (2) most compelling pitches will be selected and upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will each receive a portion of the budget laid out in each winner’s bid to help create the video. Additionally, upon submitting a video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning pitch, the pitch winners will then be paid the remainder of the predetermined budget. For an example of an effective pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGO Bricks” Pitch video. All pitches will remain private until after the winners of the Video Phase are announced and the project is complete.

PHASE 2: PRE-PRODUCTION - The TWO (2) pitch winners from the Pitch Phase will enter the Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will need to receive the following approvals from the brand:

  • SCRIPT - This project requires script approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The brand may provide feedback on your script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback.

  • CHARACTER DESIGN - This project requires character design approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase.

  • STORYBOARD - This project requires storyboard approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The brand may provide feedback on your storyboard and ask you to submit a new version of the storyboard.

  • ANIMATIC - This project requires animatic approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase.

  • BACKGROUND - This project requires background approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase.

No filmmakers may begin creating their video until all approvals are completed and the Video Phase has officially begun. If you begin creating your video during the Pre-Production Phase before you have received final approval, there is a chance you will need to reanimate (at your own expense).

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a Treatment, Production Budget, Storyboards, Shot List, Call Sheet, and a Music Cue Sheet.  They can all be accessed here.

PHASE 3: VIDEO - Once the Pre-Production Phase is complete, the pitch winners will each create a 2-3-minute video based upon his/her winning pitch.

PHASE 4: REVISIONS - Once the Video Phase has closed, the winning submitters will enter the Revisions Phase (What is a Revisions Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their videos according to the sponsor’s feedback.

PHASE 5: ASSETS DELIVERY - You must also provide all project files, editing sequences and a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec in order to submit final payment.
