Add holiday cheer to live-action LEGO Star Wars videos using motion graphics inspired by social media, and then package those videos for distribution.

To get in the holiday spirit, LEGO designers have filmed live-action videos on how to "holiday-ify" your favorite LEGO Star Wars sets. To make these videos even more festive, we need a savvy editor to pump up the holiday cheer by adding socially-inspired motion graphics onto the completed videos. The application of the motion graphics should be similar to this example, but we don't want to overly rely on text since these videos are intended for multiple languages. Snow, Christmas trees, Christmas lights - even emojis - are all fair game.

In the pitch phase, you'll create a sample video showing us how you'd use motion graphics to holiday-ify this video. Please note: this is NOT one of the actual videos you'll be editing - we'll share those files with the greenlit editor.

After we settle on a template for how we want the holiday-ified videos to look, the second phase of this project will be combining the live-action videos (which include your graphics) with already-completed animated shorts (which won't require additional work). The animated shorts are 1-1.5 minutes long, and the live-action videos will be 3-5 minutes long. The format of the combined videos that you deliver will be: animated short > transition > live-action footage > end card. In addition to the combined videos, we'll also need you to deliver JUST the live-action portions on their own. When all is said and done, the combined videos will be approximately 5-7 minutes, and the live-action-only videos will be approximately 3-5 minutes.

There are 60 different assets that will need to be packaged for delivery, but you'll only be adding motion graphics to 15 "base" videos in three different languages (5 in English, 5 in German, and 5 in Castilian Spanish). These videos will feature LEGO designers in their respective languages decorating 5 classic LEGO Star Wars sets for the holidays. The 5 English videos will also have baked-in subtitles in 3 different languages (French, Italian, and LATAM Spanish), but the actual motion graphics will stay the same. The subtitles and translations will be provided to you; you do NOT need to get your own translations.

DELIVERABLES:

  • 60 total videos
  • Check out the Assets section for the full deliverable breakdown

TIMELINE: For the full project timeline please see the Assets section.

EXPOSURE: YouTube

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Fans of Star Wars
  • Fans of LEGO
  • Kids
  • Adult Fans of LEGO

TONE: Cheery, upbeat, whimsical, holiday-ified

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Avoid using text in the motion graphics - any text used will eventually need to be translated into the native language.
  • Your motion graphics should be generalized across the entire holiday season (e.g. snowflakes, lights, scarves and mittens). Santa Claus would be too Christmas-centric.
  • Your template should serve as a stylistic guide to how you will approach the motion graphics across all the videos, but you can also tailor the graphics to what the designers are saying and doing in each respective video.
  • Avoid anything controversial in your motion graphics - these are for kids after all!
  • The French, Italian, and LATAM Spanish subtitles will be provided to you (along with translations); these subtitles will need to be baked into the 5 English-language base videos. We'll also provide translations of the German and Castilian Spanish base videos to help with your motion graphic choices, but those videos will not need baked-in subtitles.
  • The video packages MUST adhere to the spec guide found in the Assets section.
  • You'll need to add a transition (most likely a classic Star Wars wipe) from the animated portion of the video to the live-action portion.

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less on why you'd be good for the job.

  • SAMPLE VIDEO (REQUIRED): Submit one :15-:30 sample video with holiday-themed motion graphics using this video as the base asset.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To any relevant past video editing and motion graphic work.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment, the responsible creator will receive funding. Please note: the payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Please see the full payment schedule in the Assets section.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to shooting, filmmakers must receive the below approvals from the Sponsor.

  • MOTION GRAPHICS TEMPLATE: Before packaging together the final videos, we'll want to settle on a holiday-ified template that can be used across the 15 base videos for each language (English, German, and Castilian Spanish). The Sponsor may provide feedback on your template and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until the template is approved by the Sponsor.

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a treatment, production budget, storyboards, shot list, call sheet, and a music cue sheet. Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present cast, location, and wardrobe options to the Sponsor. They can all be accessed here.

REVISION REQUIREMENTS: Once the Video Phase has closed, the greenlit submitters will enter the Revisions Phase. Filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback.

MUSIC: Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Jingle Punks, Universal Production Music and Epidemic Sound, any of which can be used to source music for your video submission to this project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into submissions to this project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the providers’ names above.

If you choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from third-party catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with your license purchase receipt when you turn in your video paperwork.

You must also provide all project files, editing sequences and a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec in order to submit final payment. You are responsible for the costs associated the hard drive and shipping.
