Design one-of-a-kind, RPG-inspired trading cards based on real Creators in the Tongal and LEGO World Builder communities.

Attention all illustrators and graphic designers! Cards on the table: we’re looking for a talented designer to create one-of-a-kind, RPG-style trading cards that celebrate your fellow Creators, both in the Tongal, and in the LEGO World Builder communities. Designs should feature an illustration of each creator and a still from their work, and spotlight their talents in a creative RPG-style way. For example, if you decide to take a Dungeons and Dragons approach, you could measure a Creator's number of green-lit projects by Hit Points, list a Creator's Difficulty Class based on the complexity of their content, and update a Creator's stats with a Proficiency Bonus. In your pitch, show us how you would playfully highlight Creators’ skills and talents. Designs should be original and not directly based on a real RPG game.

Tongal Creators run the gamut of creative skills from filmmakers to writers, editors to puppeteers, so make sure your templates are flexible enough to celebrate a variety of Creators. The same goes for LEGO World Builder Creators: We have brick builders, illustrators, stop-motion animators, and more! The greenlit designer will be provided with a list of 10 Creators (5 from Tongal's community and 5 from LEGO World Builder's community) along with a list of their individual skills and talents and samples of work of theirs that we're celebrating from 2021 so you may begin your first official draft. We will collaborate with you on coming up with fun RPG-style metrics and "powers" for each of the Creators. Please do not reach out to any of the Creators provided. To learn more about the LEGO World Builder community and its association with Tongal, check out this FAQ.

These cards will be shared as part of a single campaign, so we’ll be interested to see how your designs tie both Tongal and LEGO World Builder Creators together but also reflect each platform’s individuality through color schemes, iconography, and personality. You will only be responsible for designing the "front" of the card as these are meant for digital distribution and will not be printed out as physical cards. You can include multiple different approaches in your Pitch, or submit up to 5 different pitches, so show us what you got and see what sticks! In addition to the trading card designs, you will also create two Canva templates based on each design, so in the future, anyone can create their own trading card and share it on social. If you don't have any familiarity with Canva, we can set up a time to walk you through how to build a template.

  • As a Tongal-sponsored project, we're very excited to see the design concepts that come back from our community. Though our goal is to greenlight a designer, we have structured this project as an Open Bid in case we do not find a suitable submission for this initiative.  Regardless of the result, all Open Bid submissions will be carefully reviewed and considered by our team.

For inspiration, we encourage you to check out both our Tongal and LEGO World Builder platforms along with our separate Instagram channels to get a sense of each platform's distinct voice and personality:

REFERENCE CARDS FOR INSPIRATION OR TONE

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 or fewer characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute your designs.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A detailed overview of your design concept and creative approach. Feel free to include mockups. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous design work. Please specify your role.

  • BID (REQUIRED): This is an open bid project, so you’ll get to set your overall budget proposal. The Sponsor would like each designer to create ALL of the designs listed in the Deliverables section for a total budget of up to $2,500.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with Tongal and show us what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell us what we can expect should we choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to completing your designs, designers must receive the below approvals from the Sponsor.

  • CONCEPT ART: This project requires Concept Art approval. Tongal may provide feedback on your concept art and there may be up to 2 rounds of feedback until Tongal approves the final concept art.

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They can all be accessed here.

BUILDING YOUR TEAM: Tongal supports inclusivity in all of our productions and strongly encourages you to hire diverse talent for your team. To find staff & crew in your area, check out these resources and partners.

REVISION REQUIREMENTS: Once the Design Phase has closed, the greenlit submitters will enter the Revisions Phase. Filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their designs according to Tongal's feedback.

ASSET DELIVERY REQUIREMENTS: You must also provide all layered project files and 4X5 final .PNGs for Instagram.
