T-Mobile is looking for an animator or creator to produce an imaginative suite of content for T-Mobile that brings to life a handful of quotes in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander voices, stories, influences, and experiences.

T-Mobile is always doing great things, and while we frequently talk about all the awesome services and products it offers, this time around, we're talking about some incredible people, celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islanders with a suite of content built around quotes from both famous real world figures, as well as some of T-Mobile's own employees. This is with an eye towards Asian American and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month, which is celebrated annually in the United States in May, highlighting the history, heritage, and contributions of this community.

The goal of this project is to create two videos, and two static images - each with its own unique quote. You'll find the quotes down in the Background. Two are from employees, and we have some images of those employees that you can use too, and two are from famous figures. Unfortunately we can't use any images of the famous figures themselves, so you'll need to be creative. We expect that videos here will run anywhere from :20 to :40, depending on the length of the quote and how you bring it to life, but know that when the videos are used, they'll LOOP, so it'd be cool if you planned for that in your video's structure. Otherwise, the content needs to be bright, creative, striking, and exciting, and it should tap into visuals cues and characteristics that reflect some of the distinctive design elements that you might associate with this community. Do keep in mind that music shouldn't just cut out abruptly as things loops, and that sound effects are welcome. The static images, since they're unique quotes, obviously can't be pulls from the videos. They can match the overall feel of the videos, but they should stand on their own.

In terms of animation, we're open to 2D and traditional motion graphics, but also stop motion, 3D, papercraft, mixed media, or something else entirely. Within those formats, ANY artistic style could potentially work, and in fact, T-Mobile shared this motion graphic trends video as an example of the many different styles they're open to, but there are countless others. This content is primarily intended for T-Mobile employees to share with their own family, friends, and professional contacts on their personal social media feed, and that means that it cannot look overly corporate. T-Mobile's the Un-carrier - think cool, clever, even a little quirky. We've shared a ton of other existing T-Mobile content examples down in the Background for inspiration too - you'll see there's A LOT of variety there.

Magenta (#E20074) should be the hero color in quote video designs, so keep that in mind, but think about how you'll engage an audience through movement, design, sound, and music. How does the text appear and move? What do we hear? Does it need stock photo visuals or some other design elements? We can provide images of T-Mobile employees, if you wanted to incorporate that somehow, or you can use Storyblocks for stock photos and video too. Details on that in Project Requirements.

For your pitch, we highly recommend submitting a proof of concept video or static image along with your Treatment. For any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

By participating in this project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a submission. Though most projects on our platform do move forward, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any submissions via the project forum. Regardless of the result, all submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the project team.

THE QUOTES:

  1. Employee Quote (for Video #1):
"Every person brings a unique point of view that deserves to be heard, and being yourself not only benefits company culture, but also improves our work when there are these different voices and ideas." -- Emily Chen, Social Media Manager
  2. Employee Quote (for Video #2):
"Yes, my cultural identity, our family Values - our respect for the elderly, and kindness for all - has really helped me to be a team player in my career."  -- Sanjeev Bhasin, Strategic Account Manager
  3. Famous Figure Quote (for Image #1):
“I’m not gifted. I’m not smarter than everyone else. I’m not stronger. I just have the ability to stick to a place and not quit.” -- Jonny Kim
  4. Famous Figure Quote (for Image #2):
"If you look at all the contributions immigrants made you’re basically looking at what America is today, in whole, full stop.” -- Padma Lakshmi
  5. Employee Quote (for Image #3)
"My Chinese parents immigrated to the US for a better life, encouraging me to do well in anything I set out to do and never take anything for granted. This strong work ethic has stayed with me and is something I hope to instill in my daughters." -- LieShia Ong-Sintzel, Creative Direction Manager
  6. Employee Quote (for Image #4)
"Until I found my role at T-Mobile, I was never 100% present. Understanding that T-Mobile has #BeYou in its DNA, now I can embrace my intersectionality as LGBTQA+, APAN, and Singapore Military, and be all that I truly am." --
Yu-jin Lee, Manager, Web Creative Direction

As an immigrant from Singapore. The world idea of moving to New York alone in the 90s and it was about learning more about the “grass over fence” and less about my own identity. Midway, through some adversity post 9/11, I was able to understand that I had to fight for my presence as foreigner. I began to see that I had to stand proudly as an Asian, Chinese, Southeast Asian and a Singapore; use all the difference in me to be stand out. Fortunately, I was able to get a creative role in one of the top Asian American advertising agencies. I was able to use my passion for race, culture, travel, and art to use and create successful campaigns towards several Asian American markets for several Fortune 50 companies. Today, I can collectively use all my life experience and apply it to the DE&I efforts I am trying to inspire in T-Mobile.
Why do you think its important to #BeYou in your career and for others?
It has been challenging as until I found my role in T-Mobile, I do not think it was never 100% present. Understanding that T-Mobile has a #BeYou DNA in our employee culture, I was able to drive on my intersectionality as a member LGBTQA+, APAN, Singapore Military and Multigenerational  and be all the layers of my being that I truly am – 100% myself
What is something you want people to know about your culture and heritage?
That we are more than what we look like. The APAN culture and heritage as a whole is super diverse. Coming from a multicultural society in Singapore, I may be Chinese in race, but also, grew up with other cultures like Indian and Malays and several other racial groups.

THE PHOTOS:

PREVIOUS T-MOBILE CONTENT: This is some of the recent content created on Tongal, and they're all great examples of how much stylistic diversity and freedom you have in approaching this project. For the static image assets, take a look at these and imagine what a single frame would look like.

  • Black History Month Quote Videos - To bring a simple quote to life, this video incorporates a dynamic layered design and enough movement to keep things feeling energetic, while bringing in graphic design and T-Mobile employee imagery fitting the quote's theme.
  • Motorola Edge GIF - With a playful use of stock imagery and motion graphics, this brings a lot of messaging to a short GIF that uses its visuals to reinforce the messaging and keep things feeling fresh throughout.
  • Coolest Quarterly Report GIF - This pop-art approach is a great example of an "unexpected" approach that's heavy on style.
  • T-Mobile Travel Benefits Video - Seemingly hand drawn, this takes a LOT of messaging and give it a cartoony feel to make everything more engaging and watchable.
  • Careers & Opportunities Videos - Full of energy and a tactile playfulness, this brings an almost stop-motion / mixed media element stylistically, even though it's all digital.
  • Super Security New Product Video - This video is simply promoting a security camera, but it packs a LOT of personality and tremendous amounts of energy, so it's really surprising and fun, and the sort of pulpy comic book detective vibe fits the security theme well.
