Produce an informative animated video for Hess Corporation that communicates the importance of embracing innovation for a bright future.

The goal is to create an animated video for internal usage within the Hess Corporation to help explain a shift in mindset of promoting innovation for a bright future.

Hess Corporation is an American global independent energy company engaged in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas. Ten years ago, they presented a vision to become the “best performing energy investment” and “most trusted energy partner.” One of the main tools they used to go on this journey is establishing “lean processes” to improve their operational performance.

Recently, however, they’ve realized that “innovation” needs to be added to “lean," so now they’re focusing on having a “lean AND innovative” culture to continually improve their operations and achieve their brand goals. But along with innovation there can be some resistance. This is where we come in! The animated video we produce should help Hess solidify internal alignment around experimentation, learning, and adopting new innovations & technologies.

PLEASE NOTE: Hess Corporations has provided an outline for the video, which you can find in the Assets section. Also, they are open to any style of animation, as long as it is doable within the timeline & budget.

DELIVERABLES:

  • One 2:00-3:00 video. 16x9 aspect ratio.

EXPOSURE:

  • For internal usage.

TIMELINE: For the full project timeline please see the Assets section.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Internal employees, primarily Field Operators / Reliability Operators just like Sarah, the protagonist in the video outline.

TONE:

  • Slightly futuristic, relatable, small dose of humor, memorable and inspiring.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Focus on valuing employee safety and wellbeing, and the meaningful/impactful work as an employer of choice -- environment, health and safety is of paramount importance to the company!
  • The environment should never be depicted as unsafe, unhealthy, polluting etc.
  • Try to avoid dialogue between characters in the video. The focus should be on clear animated visuals to explain the narrative. Open to VO for narration or text on screen.
  • Must include an original end card with tagline: “Experiment. Learn. Adopt."

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this video.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • ANIMATED STYLE FRAME (REQUIRED): Please provide an example of the style of animation you plan to use in this video. You can show us the protagonist, Sarah, or something else. Not looking for polish here, just to get a basic sense of what it will look like.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

  • SCRIPT (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.

  • STORYBOARDS (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. You can download the Tongal storyboard template here.

  • CASTING (Optional): Casting notes or voice samples.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment, the responsible creator will receive funding. Please note: the payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Please see the full payment schedule in the Assets section.

Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present cast, location, and wardrobe options to the Sponsor. They can all be accessed here.
