VidCon, the leading conference for online video held annually in Anaheim, CA, turns 10 this year. Born from an ambitious idea from Vlogbrothers’ Hank and John Green and attended by 1,400 online video enthusiasts in its very first year, VidCon has since expanded to Europe and Australia, with an eye on Mexico next. In the rapidly changing digital video landscape, VidCon brings together all of online video in one place and gives creators, brands, and marketers a chance to learn more about the current and future state of the industry, the business of online content, the art of building real connections with consumers, and the value of communicating authentically.

With opportunities to observe and engage with audiences and influencers, VidCon is a must-attend opportunity for those looking to take their work in online video to the next level. If you’re heading to VidCon this July 10-13th, here are 3 ways to level up your experience.

1. Listen in when creators talk

The second floor is where the Creator Track is hosted. There’s a palpable creative energy on this floor, where you’ll find content creators taking the stage to share their insights. The agenda is packed with platform updates, best practices, video-making workshops, and case studies. It’s a great way to get a pulse on the creator ecosystem and hear about top challenges, new opportunities and ways to make creative endeavors sustainable. It’s also a chance for non-creators to better understand the life of a creator and be more empathetic to their cause when working together.

2. Get a 360-degree perspective

With an agenda reflective of the entire online video ecosystem, VidCon offers a great chance to explore challenges through a different lens and get a new perspective that can further the conversation and help us get closer to finding solutions as an industry. We encourage creators to check out the Industry Track to understand the challenges, realities, and successes of the people hiring them to develop content. Bonus: there’s great networking to be had on the third floor!

3. Don’t miss the expo halls

VidCon expo halls on the first floor are where one might say you’ll find the most action. It’s home base for Community Track attendees, where brands set up booths and lounges and all the buzz-worthy “stuff” happens. Here you’ll see creators interact and engage with fans and get to experience that relationship up-close. Walk through this floor, enjoy the food trucks outside, catch some live performances, attend a community panel, and support your favorite creators by picking up merch. Also, wear comfortable shoes.

Bonus Tips

  • Bring a reusable water bottle (and Advil).
  •  Keep your phone on low battery mode and bring a charger.
  • Pack a jacket (the conference center can get COLD).
  • Have a game plan and a road map. Figure out what you want to see and where you need to be and get there early. Security is tight and standing at the back of a full session is taboo.
  • Take time to explore different brand activations. It’s great for inspiration (and candy).
  • If you need to take meetings, check out the lobbies at the Hilton and Marriott.
