Tongal Producers review somewhere in the ballpark of 112 million pitches every year [citation needed], looking for juuust the right creators with juuust the right skillset and vision to mesh with our clients’ needs. It’s a little like matchmaking, but probably more tedious.
However, every once in a while, a pitch makes our producers stand up, take notice, and then promptly keel over with laughter. Not in the ‘what the heck is this filmmaker on?’ kind of way (we’re not heartless jerkfaces). We’re talking about the ‘holy cow, this filmmaker seems like a hoot to work with’ way. These are the pitches that stick with you.
Humor, when used judiciously in a Treatment or Pitch Video, is a great tool that creators can employ to give Tongal and the Project Sponsor a sense of their personality - and in the case of projects calling for a comedic video, a sense of whether or not they’ve got the chops to deliver.
So if you’re thinking about working a joke into your next pitch, we say GO FOR IT. As long as it helps communicate your vision for the project, it’s all gravy baby. The Heist cleverly gave us a taste of what their proposed video would look like, but they shot it with dogs instead of runners. Turns out, man's best friend is also a creator's secret weapon for winning the hearts and minds of project decision-makers.

The funnymen of Side of Fries, Luke and Jordan, brought so much energy and humor to this pitch. Heck, Jordan even donned the skinniest of jeans to make his comedic point and sell their story.

Kate from KR Squared Productions uses stock footage and funny inserts (hello, Bear Grylls!) to sell her comedic vision for a truly memorable spot for Credit Sesame.
Creator: Sam CF
Sam's K-pop take on an otherwise boring PSA-type campaign is inherently hilarious, but there's nothing funny about how thoroughly he establishes his style in this pitch video. The sample lyrics and musical track are bonkers good, but it's the moment when you realize that Sam has green-screened and reproduced himself to form a full boy band that things truly go off the rails in the most delightful way.
