If you’re a writer or a filmmaker, chances are you already understand the basics of telling a good story: Hook people up front and then build the narrative around a well-trod storytelling arc. This holds true for the books we read, the TV shows and films we consume, and until recently, even the commercials we love to watch.

With a new video platform or a social media app popping up just about every day, however, the rules of creating engaging video content no longer apply. Or, perhaps they do, but they’ve morphed into something new and less recognizable. The fragmenting media landscape allows us to enjoy what we want to watch when we want to watch it, but it also means that no two viewing experiences are the same. Rather than the traditional 30-second TVC, we’re now more likely to be exposed to anything from 6-second ads to 10-minute branded short films.

As creators, it can be difficult to keep up with the new rules of an ever-shifting landscape. But, if you can wrap your head around this new playing field, you are guaranteed to have a leg-up on the competition. We want to give you that leg up!

Because the majority of Tongal Projects aim to create content for some of the largest video platforms in the digital space - your Facebooks and Instagrams and YouTubes - we want to arm you with the knowledge you need to do your best work and engage audiences no matter where they are. That’s why we’ve created several handy, printable one-sheets that cover the creative and technical best practices of these popular channels. Click each image below, and you’ll be an expert in no time!
