Happy Holidays, everyone! ‘Tis the gift-giving season, but don’t worry if you haven’t started your holiday shopping yet (we haven’t either! Or at least, the writer of this blog post hasn’t started yet).

For those of you still looking for something special for your creative friends and family members (or even inspo for your own gift wish list!), we’ve put together some awesome ideas. Check them out, and then let us know what’s on YOUR list in the comments section below. What would you give the filmmaker, writer, or creative in your life? We'll choose our 5 favorite gift ideas, and send a Tongal holiday swag bag to the commenter behind them. (Please note: absolutely nothing on this list will be in that bag, but it’s the thought that counts).

For Filmmakers

Red Raven Kit ($15,000)

If money ain’t a thing for you, and your loved one has had their eye on a car all year but also loves cinema cameras, check out the RED Raven. It’s one hell of a camera; you can shoot with it right out of the box. What’s even better is you’ll be able to create content that’s way more impressive than trying to shoot a movie with your Prius.

Sony Alpha A9 ($4,500)

This prosumer camera is fu#king awesome and its photo and video capabilities are very impressive. The body alone runs around $4,300-$4,600 so once you kit it out with a nice lens and some audio equipment be prepared to spend $5,500-$6,000.

DJI Mavic Pro (Fly More Combo) ($1,149)

Get ‘em while they’re hot and, at least for now, still legal. This drone is one of the most compact and easy to transport drones for a shoot. The build quality is strong, the image quality is great, and the price is very reasonable for what it is. Just fold it up, gently place it in your camera backpack and you’re ready to rock and roll. Like any new camera, there is a learning curve when learning to operate it, but once you do, the Mavic Pro is a great to tool to add to your production.

DJI Ronin MX 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer and Steadimate 15lbs Kit ($3,000)

Let’s be completely honest right now, if you enjoy watching your loved ones’ videos but their shots look like you’re watching the original Blair Witch Project, do yourself and them a favor and buy them a gimbal. Gimbals make a great gift and can range in price from a couple hundred dollars to thousands, depending on the weight of the camera and how complex the gimbal is. Gimbals for your smartphone or DSLR / Mirrorless Cameras can be much more affordable than the DJI Ronin MX 3-Axis Gimbal, which is much more suited to pair with that RED Raven Kit.

Rokinon Prime Lens Kit ($2,300)

Camera lenses make for great gifts! Unfortunately, prime lenses can be very pricey. Luckily, Rokinon made a set of super solid, well built prime lenses that can be purchased as a set or individually. The quality of these lenses are very good especially considering how affordable they are.

Flat 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart OLED TV ($1,500)

If you’re looking for a gift for a movie lover and not necessarily gifts for somebody that loves making movies, how about a 4K TV? 4K TVs are great, and between Netflix, Amazon, and maybe HULU, there’s plenty of 4K content to screen! Also in the past month alone, some OLED TVs have substantially dropped in price by about 40% making them somewhat affordable (but they’re still pricey). If you don’t know what “OLED” stands for that’s okay, I don’t either but just think of it this way: OLED TV’s output the best, sharpest, and most detailed images for your viewing pleasure. Note: Many 4K TV’s without OLED screens are also great and start around $500.

Movie Pass ($9.95/mo)

Because watching movies is almost as great as making them.

For Writers

Moleskine M+ Smart Writing Set ($200)

This is just downright awesome. Instantly digitize your hand-written notes!

Modern Day Bluetooth Typewriter ($1,300

While regular typewriters are badass, they aren’t very practical anymore. But with a modern day twist and Bluetooth capabilities you can still “punch the keys for god’s sake!”

A nice pen ($10+)

The pen pictured at the above link sold for almost 9 million dollars, which is almost worth it when you consider how long the ink lasts, but there are plenty of options that are more affordable at $10-$40-$60 price points and the ink lasts just as long. A nice pen goes a long way and no writers tool-set is full until they have a nice pen to call their own.
