One of the things we are trying to accomplish in Tongal is that of a shared experience. As we are enormous fans of improv (i.e. Groundlings, UCB, 2nd City, The Harold etc.), so we thought to use some of the basic rules of improv and apply it to the creation of digital content.
If in improv, we begin with an audience suggestion to help get everyone involved and invested in the final result. We thought we should begin with an idea phase in which everyone/anyone can participate.
If in improv, the number one rule is "yes and" i.e. if there is a suggestion from a fellow member don't impede progress by denying that suggestion and have to start over again, take it and run with it. We thought the pitch phase of Tongal should build upon some existing ideas. By doing this, like in improv, we feel we are constantly moving forward and progressing as opposed to constantly starting over with nothing to build upon.
Finally, if in improv, the best thing a member can do is make his partner/s look good on stage we think that the best results here will be someone improving upon existing ideas and pitches in their video to make them better.
We reached out to plenty of comedy troupes and individuals and want to make sure they know we'll be listening. We know that with their help, the site can continually improve. Suggestions, thoughts and comments are welcome.
Gobble , gobble.
