Create a 30 – 240 second sweded version of your favorite film. Use live action, cardboard, stop-motion, CGI or a combination to reimagine your favorite movie in an entertaining and hilarious way.

Summer’s officially here and so is blockbuster season. What better way to celebrate than to swede your favorite movies?

You may remember sweding from when Tongal teamed up with the LEGO Movie to recreate their official trailer. We received a ton of awesome submissions, including this cardboard spectacular from Ryan Riffle.

In fact, we had so much fun, we want to do it again! This time, we’re giving you the chance to recreate any movie you’d like: Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Taxi Driver, whatever! Which film you reimagine and how you do it (cardboard, Claymation, CGI, live action, etc.) is up to you. Check the Objectives section to find out more.

The goal of this project is create a sweded version of your favorite film. There's no set length but make your movie recreation come in somewhere between 30 seconds and four minutes.

Use live action, cardboard, stop-motion, CGI or a combination to reimagine your favorite movie in an entertaining and hilarious way.

--Target Audience: Movie fans of all ages.

--Executional Mandatories:

  • Please make sure that there are no recognizable, copyrighted objects in your Video. For instance, don’t have characters played by LEGO minifigs or Barbie dolls, as both of those are copyrighted.
  • Please don’t use any assets from the movies you are sweding. So don’t use any audio tracks, music or video clips in your submission. You may mimic the music by doing an a cappella/humming version (see this for a great example).

--Tone: Fun and hilarious.

--Exposure: Tongal’s YouTube/Facebook channels and other social media platforms.

This Project will be worth a total of $10,000 and consists of two Phases: a Pitch Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What Is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this Video.

  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.

  • Treatment (Optional): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video.

  • Image (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, casting notes, anything that helps get your point across.

  • Pitch Video (Optional): This is your opportunity to show us what you're capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome.

The two most compelling Pitches will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will each receive $500 to help create the Video.  Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winners will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase.  So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $1,000, at a minimum, and have a chance to compete for the $5,000 First Place video prize (subject to deduction for one-time 5% residual payment to eligible Idea winners). For an example of an effective Pitch, check out Erik Beck’s winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 2: VIDEO – The two winners from the Pitch Phase will each create a 30 to 240 second length Video based upon their winning Pitch.

All other creators are invited to enter a Wildcard (What Is a Wildcard?) submission that can be based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase or a totally original concept that is not based on any winning material from the Idea Phase.  The Judges will score all Wildcard submissions and the two highest scoring Wildcard Videos along with the two winning Videos submitted by the Pitch winners will be scored to determine the standings for the Video Phase.  Remember, the two Pitch winners, along with two Wildcard creators, will receive prizes.

--Video Phase Payout: Winners of the Video Phase will earn the following prizes: 1st place $5,000, 2nd place $2,000, 3rd place $1,000 and 4thd place $1,000.
