At 5'2", Emmy Shea enters every fight at a disadvantage. Additionally, coming from the affluent Mainline of Philadelphia, many friends and family aren't supportive of her choice to box. They say it's not proper and it's not "lady-like".
All this came crashing down on her after she was knocked out earlier this year in a fight she was not qualified for.
But Emmy's heart, perseverance, and fierceness has earned her the nickname "Hell Cat" from her coaches, as she trains to return to the ring.
Emmy is not your typical boxer. At 28 years old, she's part of the small, but growing, community of female boxers. But at 5'2" with a muscular frame, she enters every fight at a height disadvantage.
The most interesting thing about Emmy is who she is out of the ring. She is an accomplished oil painter and equestrian. She says the trifector of balance for her life is boxing, art, and horses. She is feisty and outspoken with a great sense of humor, and is not afraid to let her personality come through the camera.
I'm currently working on a short documentary with her, and in the film's teaser she answers the question "Why does she fight.": https://vimeo.com/172800253
