YouTube Landing Page Intro Video Pitch Project
Pitch Development
10/19/23 - 10/24/23

Submit a thoughtful, thorough pitch explaining how you would approach a :30-:60 YouTube channel intro video for the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and a chance to produce that content if you have production capabilities.

As the saying goes, you only get one chance to make a first impression. This true to life, and it's also true to a YouTube landing page! With so many channels and forms of content competing for a viewer's attention, your landing page introduction video is a crucial opportunity to put your best foot forward and capture that person's interest and imagination. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints wants to develop a new and compelling introduction video, but they're not sure yet what direction to take, or how they want to proceed. To help them determine which direction to take, they're looking for two different thorough and thoughtful pitches that provide a clear creative direction, and a clear visual identity, that they can review and potentially align on.

The goal of this project is to create a pitch that explains in detail how you would approach producing an inspiring :30-:60 intro video for the Church's main YouTube channel, one that describes the channel's goal to highlight stories and messages of faith in Jesus Christ, and shows how the gospel of Jesus Christ can help transform your life. Though the Church tends to lean towards live-action for this type of video, they are open to seeing pitches of any and all styles of production; so if you think you have an intriguing way in to this through animation, bring it on.

Importantly, The Church is currently only looking for pitches on how this video could be made, and while there is a good possibility that this can turn into a real production down the line if they really like your pitch, it's NOT a requirement that you're able to produce the video you pitch. That means that you may submit even if you do not have production capabilities, and we're hoping that will enable a wider range of people to submit. More on this in the Background.

Your pitch should include a treatment that thoroughly describes your vision and approach to the video, but can also include any supporting materials that will help get your vision across; storyboards, scripts, mood boards, concept art, etc. For pitching purposes, you should base your approach on the assumption of a $7,000 production budget.

For any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

DELIVERABLES: If this project DOES move into production, there will be 1 video asset.

  • One :30-:60 video (16x9)

TIMELINE: HERE

  • For context, the assumption is that if a pitch is immediately greenlit into production, content would be delivered around the beginning of 2024. But if your pitch is selected a Tongal producer will reach out to develop a reasonable production timeline with you and your team.

EXPOSURE: The Church's main Youtube channel landing page.

TARGET AUDIENCE Adults 18-30 years old.

TONE/FEEL: Inspiring, uplifting, and relatable.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Your pitch concept should be adaptable/conducive to language translations.
  • All pitches should adhere to the Church's modesty standards and not feature drugs, alcohol, or any inappropriate content.
  • Should this pitch move forward, and your team is greenlit into production, all RAW footage and project files will be collected upon delivery.

The Church is currently only looking for pitches on how this video could be made, and it's NOT a requirement that you be able to produce that video. You may submit even if you do not have production capabilities. That said, there is a obviously a good chance that this could move into production, and in that event, one of two things will happen:

  1. If you are able to produce the content, you will be contacted by the Tongal production team to align on the production details (timing, deliverables, etc.)
  2. If you are NOT able to produce the content, or The Church elects to produce your pitch with another team, you will be paid 10% of the greenlit production budget.

INSPIRATIONAL TONE EXAMPLE

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your submission.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): Up to 500 characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and produce the content listed out in the Deliverables.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A more detailed and specific description of how you propose to execute all of the content listed out in the Deliverables, both in terms of what we can expect to see, and how you’ll make it. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work, if you have some. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • STORYBOARDS (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. You can download the Tongal storyboard template here.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to shooting, filmmakers must receive the below approvals from the Sponsor.

  • SCRIPT: This project requires script approval. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a script is approved by the Sponsor.
  • CASTING (if applicable): This project requires casting approval. Tongal advocates for inclusivity in on-screen representation and diversity in casting. As a best practice, please submit three to four options per role, with at least one of those options being a person of color. If the Sponsor does not approve any of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new actor options. Additionally, owing to the risk of disruption from COVID, you will be expected to have backup talent approved by the Sponsor in advance of production to account for any last-minute changes.
  • STORYBOARD: This project requires storyboard approval. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your storyboard and ask you to submit a new version.
  • LOCATION (if applicable): This project requires location approval. This means you will need to submit multiple images of your primary filming location. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your location and ask you to submit additional photos or to find a new location and submit images for that.
  • WARDROBE (if applicable): This project requires wardrobe approval. You will need to submit descriptions and/or pictures of your cast’s wardrobe. You must submit at least two wardrobe options per role. If the Sponsor does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new wardrobe options.

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a treatment, production budget, storyboards, shot list, call sheet, and a music cue sheet. Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present cast, location, and wardrobe options to the Sponsor. They can all be accessed here.

BUILDING YOUR TEAM: Tongal supports inclusivity in all of our productions and strongly encourages you to hire diverse talent for your team. To find staff & crew in your area, check out these resources and partners.

Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into submissions to this project, and will not require a Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the providers’ names above.

If you choose to use custom or original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. Please ensure your composer reviews and signs this form BEFORE beginning their work.

Video or photo content from Storyblocks is available at no charge, solely for incorporation into submissions on this project, and content will not require a separate Release Form. If identifiable people or intellectual property appears in a video clip or photo, you may only utilize assets that are clearly marked “Model released: Yes” or “Property release: Yes” on the clip description pages. You may not use any audio.

If you intend to use Storyblocks, inform your Tongal producer beforehand, and an account will be created for you to access the library and its features. Once your video submissions are approved by the Sponsor, you must provide a complete list of all Storyblocks content that you used via our template HERE.
