Create a playful, comedic, and descriptive social video edit using clips from the British series Stath Lets Flats to help explain to Americans what "Stath Lets Flats" actually means.
When it comes to hilarious misadventures in the world of property management, Stath Lets Flat is a standout modern comedy. Starring Jamie Demetriou, the series is celebrated for its quirky characters, absurd situations, and unpredictable comedic twists. Its unique blend of awkward humor and everyday chaos has garnered a devoted following in the UK. Now, great news - North American audiences can finally dive into the uproarious antics and stream the entire series on BritBox! The only thing is... the BritBox team realized that many Americans do not actually understand what the title "Stath Lets Flats" even means, and so they may not be inclined to watch the laugh-out-loud journey. Time to fix that.
Utilizing clips and trailers from the series Stath Lets Flats, we want you to edit together an up to :90 social video that is playful, offbeat, and comedic, and that can help "define" or explain what "Stath Lets Flats" means to North American audiences. As we're sure you're wondering, in the Queen's English, the title just means Efstathios Rents Apartments. For viewers who don't automatically put that together, we want this video to be a fun way to "translate" the title for our audience while conveying the basic premise of an immigrant family mismanaging a rental agency with hilarious results. You can use clips from the show to help define the three words contextually, use multiple characters saying the three words with a definition on screen, or maybe even stitch multiple clips together to explain what the phrase means and how it leans into the comedic themes of the show.
We're not looking for the traditional recap or series teaser here. No, instead, we want you to have A LOT of fun with this. This is a social-first asset, with the 9x16 being our hero, so it has to really entertain and hook the audience. You should really consider how best to intrigue people right off the bat on TikTok and Instagram, using show clips together and possibly even additional imagery, graphics, or text, and if there's some kind of recent social trend that you can leverage, that might be really helpful too. Humor helps, and you should find ways to capture the the offbeat comedy in the show itself, in line with many of BritBox's quintessentially British comedies. The show itself does a great job, juxtaposing a cleverly composed apartment "listing" (as text on screen) with the reality of the often broken-down accommodations, and the show builds on that by following Stath as he fails to "sell" it to the renters. The juxtaposition is style you could lean into. You should also should feature clips with the actress Natasia Demetriou, as many in the US audience will recognize her from FX's What We Do in the Shadows.
If you're including VO or text, you can ONLY use the trailer and episode assets provided, in the Assets link below, and you CANNOT use the music included in scenes; just the dialogue or sound effects within them. Considering the videos will also be used across multiple aspect ratios you should also think about how you will reframe the scenes and how you may want to make slight edits to make these cuts work for where they will be living on social.
Critically, you must also work within the Adobe Suite for this project, and for your pitch submission, we're looking for you to edit a :15-:30 sample video to display how you would cut together the different clips dynamically and interestingly. Check out more information about the series and some reference videos in the Background, and for any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

SERIES INFORMATION: Stath Lets Flats stars Jamie Demetriou as the title character "Stath," who's a flat lettings agent (i.e. he rents apartments, if you don't speak the King's English) trying to make ends meet working for his Greek-Cypriot father and boss, "Vasos" in London. Stath attempts to prove himself worthy to be an heir to the family company `Michael and Eagle,' despite the fact that he's incompetent, and his personality does not match the job in the slightest. Luckily for Stath, his sister Sophie works for the family company too... but unfortunately she's equally incompetent.
