Produce a short suite of fun and engaging videos using the LEGO® VIDIYO™ music video maker app and one of the latest iPhones.

LEGO® VIDIYO™ was created to help kids film their own music videos. Using your phone's camera, you can record a scene in the real world and easily lay incredible characters and effects over it to create a one-of-a-kind experience. The LEGO Group wants you to hack it to see what else you can create. Start a meme, make a minifig dance, tell your story, turn your bedroom, your kitchen, the back of your garden into a stage for your imagination, but whatever you make, BRING THE FUN!

The goal of this project is to use the LEGO VIDIYO app to create a suite of 10 different videos while filming on one of the latest iPhones (12 or later). There are two themes that videos should fit into, which you can find in the Background, but these videos can be the kind of videos that you want to create and share. Pitch winners will be given special builds and permissions within the app that will allow them to create more than just music videos -- you'll be able to explore the full creative pallet of the LEGO universe and DNA!

The LEGO team wants to populate the app with exciting, fresh content that entertains and engages kids, and encourages them to explore more, share more, and create more content. Your videos should help to drive app downloads and inspire kids to create and entertain themselves with fun, engaging content, and the takeaway should be: "Now I want to make my own VIDIYOs!" Your videos should feel aspirational and easy to replicate, and within your suite, you're encouraged to use different LEGO models or elements as props, as well as different genres and songs. Please do not feature any people in your videos. You can also use different aspect ratios (i.e. 16x9 landscape and 9x16 portrait) and different lengths (e.g. :05, :10, :15, :20, :30, :60) for all of your content.

This has a fast-moving timeline, but it's easy to use the app, and these should be a joy for you to create. For any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

Though most projects on our platform do move forward with a greenlit pitch, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any pitches via the project forum. Regardless of the result, all submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the project team.

Shooting live action or stop motion? Our priority is ensuring everyone's safety, so please review our COVID-19 Production Safety Guide and check federal, state, and local rules before and during your shoot to make sure your on-set protocols are up to date. We're working hard to keep people working during this extraordinary time, and you should ensure your submission is executable within the anticipated timeline and budget, while also ensuring everyone's safety.

The LEGO brand has always inspired creative play. Children today are already expressing themselves creatively on platforms not designed with kids in mind. VIDIYO is a creative playground where kids can safely develop and share their creative vision. It’s a tool which enables them to mess with their world, augmenting it with music, effects and animations, expressing their own creativity and enjoying the creativity of others.

For this project, there are two content directions, your videos should focus on:

  1. Mess with your world - Use your real world as a stage, and add LEGO models and characters to create an alternate reality full of fun animations, sounds, and effects.
  2. Play-Along - Create VIDIYOs containing cues that incentivize other creators to rebuild, replicate, or respond, forming a content spiral or train. Think about viral video trends on other social platforms as inspiration for this particular direction.

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 or fewer characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this video.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED):  Tell us how you plan to approach the suite of videos (ie length, aspect ratio, content direction). If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • SHIPPING INFO (REQUIRED): Given the tight timeline, please tell us your shipping address including your phone number.

  • PHONE MODEL (REQUIRED): Please tell us which iPhone model you plan to use to film the videos. You MUST shoot these videos using one of the later iPhone models (12 or 13). If you don't have an iPhone, but have a really good take, we may be able to provide you with a phone for the shoot.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • SAMPLE VIDEO (Optional): Show us a sample video you've made on VIDIYO.

The most compelling pitches will be greenlit, and the responsible creators will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. There will be a kick-up call set up with the client after pitch winners are announced.
