Set in 1917, Carlisle has a talk with a dying Mrs. Masen, bring to life his stories and adventure making him the man he is today. Although he does not reveal his true nature, she senses he is special. In a last wish she pleas for him to save her son's life. After some thought, he makes a decision that brings about the twilight universe as we know it. We are left at the moment just before Carlisle enters in to the curtain to Edwards bed.
