With the changing of the seasons, Tongal is looking to add a few Instagram-savvy creators to the @Tongalteam Social Crew to ideate and create engaging content for Tongal’s Instagram on an ongoing basis through Fall and Winter of 2023!

Are you an internet savvy meme queen or king, illustrator, artist, animator, maker or just a fan of film and media history? Maybe you have some really cool ideas for Instagram Reels, like a "Doodle With Me" drawing series or a Gear Packing Tutorial. Well then you're in luck, because the Tongal Social Crew is looking for you! The goal of this project is to identify at least 3 Tongal community members to join our elite @Tongalteam Social Crew, each of whom will be asked to create engaging, fun, and original social content for Tongal’s Instagram, and expand upon a few continuing content series. We're looking for content that other creators will LOVE, and then share on their own channels.

If you follow Tongal on Instagram (and if not, make sure to!) you've probably noticed the #TongalSocialCrew hashtag on our posts, and you've already enjoyed some of the thoughtful, hilarious, referential and informative content that our Social Crew members have been creating. Now it’s time for another class to rise up and take over the world (or, at least, our Instagram channel).

Ideal Social Crew members will be Instagram-fluent and possess video, animation, photo, and/or design skills, while also bringing their unique talents and personality to the channel. A variety of media interests is also helpful. Jump down to Background for more creative direction. If you've been a member before of the social crew previously, you can still submit!

Your focus will be on creating great content, but Tongal is also committed to promoting the creator behind each post. For this reason, every post you create will be credited back to you, making this a great opportunity to grow your own Instagram following, while still building out a social marketing portfolio.

HOW WILL IT WORK? By joining Tongal’s Social Crew, you’re signing up to create content for Tongal’s Instagram channel on an ongoing basis over the next 4 months (August 2023 through the early December 2023). Selected creators will have direct access to bounce new ideas off our internal team, whether they be for stand-alone posts, series, or Instagram Stories, and we're excited to see where you want to take things. Additionally, Tongal may have an idea for a post or series which we put out to the Crew to see who is willing and able to execute on the idea.

DELIVERABLES: There will be 16 total stand-alone Instagram posts (four per month), adhering to the following formats:

  • Three Instagram In-Feed posts - Image, or video up to :60 (1x1 or 4x5)
  • One Instagram Reels Post - Video (9x16)

TIMELINE: HERE

EXPOSURE:

TARGET AUDIENCE: Entertainment-lovers, Tongal clients, Tongalers, and filmmakers, editors, writers, and animators in general

TONE: Fun, relatable, inspiring, supportive, inclusive

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Selected @Tongalteam Social Crew members MUST create a minimum of four original Instagram Social Assets per calendar month (images, videos, boomerangs, etc.)
  • Submissions MUST adhere to Instagram specs as outlined in Background/Additional Details.
  • Submissions MUST adhere to Tongal Brand Guidelines, which will be supplied to crew members.
  • Selected creators MUST share a minimum of two out of three of their original Social Assets per month with followers on their own Instagram channel(s), while tagging @TongalTeam (posted natively or pushed to their Instagram Stories from the @TongalTeam channel).

The @TongalTeam Social Crew is an initiative designed to showcase the work of our global creative community, while making cool sh*t for the Tongal Instagram channel. The goal here is to feature content “by creators, for creators,”, so potential Crew members should consider the kind of posts they’d most like to see on the channel - and how their skillset can contribute to the conversation - when pitching.

We are looking for both stand-alone content and recurring content frameworks when pitching. We are completely open to seeing what you can uniquely bring to the table, but here are some references and content formats to get your wheels turning:

CONTENT BUCKETS WE PLAY IN:

#TONGALSOCIALCREW REFERENCES:

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): Up to 500 characters explaining why you’re a good fit for joining the @Tongalteam Social Crew, outlining the qualifications or skills you bring to the table, and the types of posts you’re most interested in creating.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): Links to your personal or professional Instagram account that demonstrate your capabilities or approach. Additionally, you may link to individual posts that you especially think we ought to check out.

  • SAMPLE INSTAGRAM ASSET (REQUIRED): Submit one sample image or video you think would be a good fit for the @Tongalteam channel and that aligns with your creative interests and strengths.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with Tongal and show us what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell Tongal why you should be selected to join the @Tongalteam Social Crew and share any ideas you have for posts you’d like to contribute. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal.

PRE-PRODUCTION: Prior to creating ANY official Social Assets, Social Crew members must connect with their Tongal Producer to receive brand guidance.

MUSIC: If you use any music from a library for your content, you MUST use one of Tongal's three music providers - Jingle Punks, Universal Production Music and Epidemic Sound. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into submissions to this project, and will not require a Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the providers’ names above.

If you choose to use custom or original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. Please ensure your composer reviews and signs this form BEFORE beginning their work.

STOCK FOOTAGE: Tongal has partnered with the stock footage library STORYBLOCKS, which can be used to source video clips, photography, and After Effects templates for your video submission to this project. Video or photo content from Storyblocks is available at no charge, solely for incorporation into submissions on this project, and content will not require a separate Release Form. If identifiable people or intellectual property appears in a video clip or photo, you may only utilize assets that are clearly marked “Model released: Yes” or “Property release: Yes” on the clip description pages. You may not use any audio.

If you intend to use Storyblocks, inform your Tongal producer beforehand, and an account will be created for you to access the library and its features. Once your video submissions are approved by the Sponsor, you must provide a complete list of all Storyblocks content that you used via our template HERE.

ASSET DELIVERY REQUIREMENTS & RESOURCES: You must also provide all project files, editing sequences and a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec in order to submit final payment. You are responsible for the costs associated the hard drive and shipping.

To ensure a smoother delivery, please review the Export Presets, Specifications, and Project File Organization Tutorial in our Filmmaker Resource Portal.
