Calling all animators! Celebrate the return of Miles Morales and all of your other favorite friendly neighborhood Spider-People in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse by recreating a :15 clip from the latest trailer in your most creative and imaginative style!

On June 2, Miles Morales – and Gwen Stacy, and Peter B. Parker – return to theaters, and this time our favorite Spider-People have to journey through the Multiverse to save every universe of Spider-People from a massive new villain. Along the way, Miles, Gwen, and Peter team up with other Spider-People, including Jessica Drew, Spider-Punk, Pavitr Prabhakar, and the rest of the Spider-Society, led by Spider-Man 2099.

If you're at all familiar with 2018's Into the Spider-Verse, then you already know how creative, colorful, jaw-dropping, and exciting Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be. And if you're an animator or an artist – whether your medium is 2D, papercraft, stop-motion, collage, digital art, claymation, toothpicks, crochet, or something else entirely – then we bet the latest Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer also left you feeling super inspired.

That's great news, because we've got the perfect creative outlet for you! Sony and Tongal are teaming up, just like Miles and Gwen, to find six artists or animators who can each bring a specific :15 segment of this :60 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer to life. Sony will provide the audio bed from the actual trailer, so you'll just need to focus on creating something that is as visually lush, surprising, and original as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse itself.

The goal here is two-fold: your :15 segment should feel utterly unique from anything else, and be able to stand on its own as a clear homage to the trailer from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, while also, ultimately, dovetailing into place with segments from other creators in order to recreate the full trailer in a rich tapestry of art and creativity; a multiverse of animation, if you will. You can propose any art or animation style you like, or even multiple styles within your segment – everything is on the table here – but you will need to be flexible and, if greenlit, be willing to recreate whatever :15 segment Sony assigns to you so that we can get the full trailer animated, Tongal-style.

At the end of the day, your animations will promote and celebrate the movie's release, but we'd also love to promote you, so the greenlit animators and artists will need to grab some BTS content during creation to let viewers peek into your process as you bring your own version and part of the Spider-Verse movie to life.

Check out more information in the Background, and for any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

DELIVERABLES: There are two total video assets:

  • One :15 animated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse segment (9x16)
  • One :15 BTS asset (9x16)

TIMELINE: HERE

  • Please note how fast moving this timeline is when considering your creative approach.

EXPOSURE: We anticipate content will be used on the platforms listed below, but if casting talent, please be sure your talent reviews the required Talent Release, as it is not limited to these platforms. You should also review our Music providers in the Project Requirements, as well as the platform best practices page.

  • TikTok, Instagram Reels

TARGET AUDIENCE: Truly everyone: fans of 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and those who are late to the game on Across the Spider-Verse.

TONE: Fun, celebratory, artistic, creative, surprising, exciting!

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Regardless of which :15 segment you pitched against, if greenlit, you understand and agree to work with whatever segment Sony and Tongal assign to you – the entire trailer is super exciting and fun, and we all need to work together to bring the whole thing to life through original animation!
  • No animation style that closely mimics the art of the movie; we want to see YOUR original take, and we want your video to look and feel different from the film itself!
  • No new dialogue, VO, or music, and do not include characters that aren't in your trailer segment; greenlit filmmakers will be provided the audio track of the trailer to use with their animation.

Check out the :60 trailer here and let us know in your pitch how you'd bring :15 of it to life through your own unique animation style.

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): Up to 500 characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and produce the content listed out in the Deliverables.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A more detailed and specific description of how you propose to execute all of the content listed out in the Deliverables, both in terms of what we can expect to see, and how you’ll make it. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • STORYBOARDS (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. You can download the Tongal storyboard template here.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to shooting, filmmakers must receive the below approvals from the Sponsor.

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present cast, location, and wardrobe options to the Sponsor. They can all be accessed here.

BUILDING YOUR TEAM: Tongal supports inclusivity in all of our productions and strongly encourages you to hire diverse talent for your team. To find staff & crew in your area, check out these resources and partners.
