Using provided VO, produce a 2.5-minute animated video to promote the upcoming second season of TNT's hit series Snowpiercer.

*PLEASE NOTE: This is an extremely fast-turn project! The finished video is due by 12/23*

Season two of TNT's hit series Snowpiercer will premiere in late January - and some exciting new characters are joining the cast, including the legendary Sean Bean as Mr. Wilford (who is basically a Jeff Bezos-type in their post-apocalyptic train world). You might know Sean from Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings - you know, very little-known indie stuff.

To help promote the new season, Sean Bean recorded VO for a poem that's essentially a riff on 'Twas the Night Before Christmas - but instead of using the text from the classic poem, the words have been changed to recap what happened in season 1 of Snowpiercer. Super cool, right?! Check out the Assets tab to read the script of the poem.

Well, the night before Christmas is exactly a week from today, and TNT would like to animate the roughly 2.5-minute poem so they can post the finished product on their social channels on Christmas Eve. TNT doesn't have any mandates on the animation style - 2D, 3D, stop motion, papercraft, claymation, mixed media - and they are also open to the use of motion graphics/kinetic text to help lessen the amount of original animation that needs to be created. Since the timeline is so fast, TNT will be really hands-off - so you'll have the creative freedom to pick a style and execute - and there's a very healthy budget range so you can bring on a full team and sprint ahead as fast as possible.

Since this project will move quickly, we're interested in seeing your links to relevant past work and a quick style reference (text and/or visuals) to help give TNT a sense of how you'd approach this animation. Style guides, moodboards, and a music library will be provided to the greenlit animator along with a final audio file of the poem.

DELIVERABLES: One 2.5-minute video (16x9)

TIMELINE:

24-Hour Pitch Phase: 12/17 - 12/18

Animator Greenlit: 12/18 EOD

Rough Cut / Animatic Due: 12/21

Rough Cut Feedback Due from TNT: 12/21 EOD

Masters to Tongal: 12/23

Masters to Turner: 12/23 EOD

EXPOSURE: WarnerMedia-owned social media pages

EXECTUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • While kinetic text and motion graphics are both on the table, your video should not rely solely on these techniques.
  • Kinetic text should be built around a scrolled font similar to this.
  • There are multiple characters named in the poem; not all of them need to be animated. Wilford and Melanie are the priority, followed by Layton and Alex.
  • Wilford "W" logo, Snowpiercer train, and Snowpiercer logo should be included.
  • When animating characters, the designs should resemble them without looking EXACTLY like the characters/talent.

OPEN BID:

  • This is an open bid project, so you will get to set your own budget, up to a maximum of $30,000.
  • By participating in this open bid project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a bid. Though most open bid projects on our platform do move forward with a greenlit bid, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any bids via the project forum. Regardless of the result, all open bid submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the project team.

Series synopsis:

Set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, Snowpiercer centers on the remnants of humanity, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually-moving train that circles the globe. Class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival play out in this riveting television adaptation.

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch qualification submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this video.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • BUDGET (REQUIRED): This is an open bid project, so you’ll get to set your overall budget. The Sponsor has a maximum budget of $30,000.

  • TREATMENT (Optional): A more detailed narrative description of the different approaches you might take in the video. Please submit more than one so we've got a lot to work with you on. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment, the responsible creator will receive funding. Please note: the payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal.

REVISION REQUIREMENTS: Once the Video Phase has closed, the greenlit submitters will enter the Revisions Phase. Filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback.

MUSIC: Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Jingle Punks, Universal Production Music and Epidemic Sound, any of which can be used to source music for your video submission to this project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into submissions to this project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the providers’ names above.

WarnerMedia will also provide the greenlit filmmaker with the music tracks being used in Snowpiercer season two promotional materials.
