Create up to three short and snappy TikTok videos using clever transitions, editing techniques, and creative visual effects to demonstrate the benefits of the WeightWatchers app and get new users to sign up for the program.

WeightWatchers is the OG sustainable weight loss program that helps you lose weight and build healthy habits, one small step at a time. To help drive new program sign-ups, WeightWatchers is looking to produce a collection of different short TikTok videos that demonstrate how the WeightWatchers app makes it simple to stick to your weight loss goals, and they want several different filmmakers to step up and create them.

These videos will be used as paid ads to drive new user sign ups, so they should be short, snappy, and most importantly, they should not look like an ad. WeightWatchers is NOT looking for talent-driven concepts or the conventional recipe-focused videos that you see on their organic Instagram or TikTok pages. Instead, we want to see a more unique and visually creative perspective that incorporates clever editing techniques, transitions, and other fun filmmaking tricks - even simple stop-motion animation, if that's your jam. This is all about tapping into the authentic lo-fi production style that dominates the TikTok platform, while also leveraging cool filmmaking techniques that will make viewers pause their scrolling and look twice. Importantly, we'll be creating alternate versions of each video, and these versions incorporate some minor changes to test out different messaging techniques (for example: we may do one version with voiceover, and one with text-to-speech; or one version with branding in the first three seconds, and one without).

Check out these examples to get a sense of what we're aiming for, and note how these videos communicate a simple message in an effective way by using clever transitions and editing techniques. We are NOT looking for "What I Eat In A Day" or "Day in the Life" influencer-style videos, since WeightWatchers has plenty of those already. Think short, punchy, snappy, and TikTok-y.

Specifically, WeightWatchers wants to use these videos to highlight their award-winning app, like:

  • General "new app" messaging that isn't focused on a specific app feature, but highlights the updated app as a whole.
  • The "What to Eat" new app feature - for more info, check out this video.
  • The "My Progress" ("Trends") new app feature - for more info, check out this video.

While the budget for each video (and alternate version) is $2,500, we encourage you to submit multiple video ideas in your pitch treatment, since WeightWatchers is open to greenlighting the same filmmaker to produce up to three unique videos, for a maximum budget of $7,500. They do want at least two filmmakers though, thus the $10,000 total project budget. Keep in mind that it is not necessary for you to have a large team or extensive production capacities to execute this project - videos should be shot, or look to have been shot, on a phone and utilize visual effects that could conceivably be native to TikTok.

For your sample video, please create one short up-to-:15 TikTok video. Your sample video should be created in a 9x16 aspect ratio and highlight one of the new app features listed above. If helpful, WeightWatchers also encourages you to submit multiple sample videos as a part of your pitch, which you can upload to the submission form as a video stringout. You can even create your sample video in the TikTok app itself!

Check out more information in the Background, and for any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

DELIVERABLES: There are 2 total video assets per creator:

  • One up-to-:15 alternate version of the main TikTok video (9x16)

EXPECTED TIMELINE: HERE

You should also review our Music providers in the Project Requirements, as well as the platform best practices.

  • TikTok

TARGET AUDIENCE: WeightWatchers' main target audience is "life cravers" who are:

  • Women between 30-50 with a household income of $50K+
  • Unhappy with their weight, seeking to lose 25+ lbs
  • Because of their busy lifestyle, don't take care of themselves as well as they should
  • Food is their go-to facilitator for feel-good experiences
  • Believe food isn’t functional. It’s an inspiring, immersive lifestyle!
  • Hunger for human connection, shared stimulating experiences, and discovering novelty.
  • Have the life motto: “if you’re going to do it, you might as well enjoy it!”

TONE/FEEL: Motivational, inspirational, hopeful, joyous, and celebratory. Make sure to check out WeightWatchers' TikTok to get a sense of their brand tone of voice.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • WeightWatchers will provide greenlit filmmakers with access to the WeightWatchers app.
  • Your videos CANNOT feature an explicit number of pounds lost, per TikTok's weight loss ad policy.
  • You videos CANNOT show alcohol.
  • Your videos should ALWAYS have sound - TikTok is a sound-on platform.
  • All graphics and the most important visual content should stay within TikTok's safe zones.
  • Your videos do NOT need to have a persistent WeightWatchers logo, since the logo is already visible via the account handle.
  • No "call to action" is necessary at the end of these videos.

By participating in this project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a submission. Though most projects do move forward, we'll notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any submissions via the Project Forum. Regardless of the result, all submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and project team.

For 60 years, WeightWatchers has helped millions of people lose weight. Over that time, they've innovated and improved their program based on the latest in nutritional and behavioral science. The WeightWatchers app has been updated, and the program has evolved to fit the needs of members. But, at the end of the day, WeightWatchers has always been a sustainable, flexible path to weight loss rooted in the power of community. No cutting out food groups, no extreme dieting, no one-size fits all approach.

REFERENCE VIDEOS FOR INSPIRATION OR TONE:

In order to be considered, include the below materials in your submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery. All Pitches remain private, even after a Pitch is selected, and Tongal strives to have Pitch selections made by the end of the Evaluation period, but additional time may be required by the Sponsor, depending on any number of factors.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): Up to 500 characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and produce the content listed in the Deliverables.

  • SAMPLE VIDEO (REQUIRED): Please submit ONE short up-to-:15 sample video (9x16) based on the information provided in the Objectives section. Your sample video should be created in a 9x16 aspect ratio. If helpful, WeightWatchers also encourages you to submit multiple sample videos as a part of your pitch, which you can upload to the submission form as a video stringout. You can even create your sample video in the TikTok app itself! The goal is to make your video as native to TikTok as possible.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A more detailed and specific description of how you propose to execute all of the content listed out in the Deliverables. Explain what we can expect to see, and how you'll make it. If it's helpful, we've provided a treatment template HERE.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, editor, artist, etc.) but do not include links to your showreel. Please link to individual videos.

The most compelling pitches will be greenlit by the Sponsor, and the responsible creators will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal, typically included with the project timeline.

Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into submissions to this project, and will not require a Music Release Form. To learn more, click on any of the providers' names above.

If you choose to use original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. Please ensure your composer reviews and signs this form BEFORE beginning their work.

STOCK FOOTAGE: Tongal has partnered with the stock footage library STORYBLOCKS, which can be used to source video clips, photography, and After Effects templates for your video submission to this project. Video or photo content from Storyblocks is available at no charge, solely for incorporation into submissions on this project, and will not require a separate Release Form. If identifiable people or intellectual property appears in a video clip or photo, you may only utilize assets that are clearly marked “Model released: Yes” or “Property release: Yes” on the clip description pages. You may not use any audio.

If you intend to use Storyblocks, inform your Tongal producer, and an account will be created for you to access the library. Once assets are approved for delivery, you must provide a complete list of all Storyblocks content that you used via our template HERE.
