Nature Made
Sleep Hub Design Project
Initial Design
08/19/20 - 09/01/20

Help Nature Made design an interface for Sleep Hub, their new website platform that helps customers find the perfect product to aid restful sleep.

Nature Made is well known for having many high-quality supplements, but consumers today want to be supported beyond the store shelf. They need their options personalized and curated specific to them. That's why Nature Made is developing Sleep Hub, an easy to use platform on their existing website that maps out the options customers have when selecting sleep aide supplements.

The goal of this project is to source mock-ups of what the home screen of this interface could look like. There are a lot of ways to organize information so that customers can clearly understand the benefits of a product but also keep them from becoming disoriented from the field of options. We want to transition from a ‘product catalogue’ to an engaging, easy to navigate and educational destination. Nature Made has already categorized each product with a specific application, but it is up to you to show us how that information can become visualized and interactive. Be sure to check out the background section for more information. Nature Made may accept Initial Designs without requesting revisions, but there is a design phase should they require you to make minor revisions or expand the project with additional funding.

DELIVERABLES: One Mock-Up of the Sleep Hub Homepage for laptop or desktop devices. (PNG, JPG, or PDF)

EXPOSURE: Nature Made's User Interface developments on NatureMade.com

TARGET AUDIENCE: Adults 25 - 54 who are looking to proactively support their sleep

TONE: Credible, Approachable, Helpful

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Cannot imply that our Sleep Hub or Nature Made products prevent or cure sleep issues.
  • Designs should not lean too heavily into the color purple.
  • As this is for internal use, elements and photography do not need to be licensed.
  • Designs do not need to be actually functional. This is meant to be a static image to guide the Sleep Hub designers.
  • Do not zip submissions

A big part of visual design is knowing what elements to prioritize and what aspects to omit or position in support of your priority. Here, we are looking for ideas of what Sleep Hub's first step/home page looks like. A good design will help make the field of Nature Made products approachable by putting them into simple categories that correspond with the sleep experience. Take a look at design examples and proposed framework supplied by the client. We can see that the goal is to take the user from what they experience to the product they need, but the layout and mechanism are up to you. Keep in mind, we don't need to display everything on one page, but good design will make the next step intuitive and allude to the rest of the process.

It can be hard to visualize a structure without knowing what goes in it. Nature Made has also supplied a product portfolio and benefits document to give you a foundation to base your design off of. Again, good design will not need to display every single piece of information in this document, but it is here to help you understand the landscape before you layout your design for the Sleep Hub homepage.

Finally, Sleep Hub will be from the Nature Made brand so it will need to consider existing branding. That said, Sleep Hub will have an individual voice, and it is acceptable for it to deviate in order to demonstrate the themes of sleep. For example, we might expect to stay within the same palette, but perhaps color skew cooler away from yellow inorder to connotate sleep (watch out for purple though). This brief is equally about function and form, and it will help to consult the Nature Made Style Guide when considering your design. We are focused more on designing the actual Sleep Hub mechanism than Nature Made's home bar on their website, but these little touches will make it easier for the sponsor to integrate the design when they are ready.

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your initial design submission.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less explaining the functionality of your design.

  • DESIGN (REQUIRED): Upload an image of your design as a JPEG, PDF, or PNG (not zipped) demonstrating your approach to Nature Made's Sleep Hub home page. As shown in the examples, successful designs will feature some sort of prompt for users to begin exploring the Nature Made Sleep catalog. These are just design drafts and they do not need to be actually functional. While the design does not need to be 100% complete, the more polished a submission is, the more easily the sponsor will be able to understand your vision.  Note that if you are selected, you will be required to provide a high-resolution 300 DPI layered PSD or InDesign file of your Artwork.

The three most compelling designs will be greenlit, and upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment, the responsible creators will receive initial funding of $500.

REVISION REQUIREMENTS: Once the Initial Design Phase has closed, the greenlit submitters may be asked to execute minor revisions in the Design Phase to prepare the design for internal use with a separate UX design team.

ASSET DELIVERY REQUIREMENTS: You must also provide a high-resolution 300 DPI layered PSD illustration or design file in order to receive final payment of $500.
