We are looking for filmmakers to cover in-store events on 7/4/19 at one of three Wal-Mart stores in Bedford Park, IL (near Chicago), Doral, FL (near Miami), and South Gate, CA (near Los Angeles) for the launch of Mattel/Fisher-Price's new toy line Rescue Heroes!  Please note: this project will NOT include editing!  Just shooting the event (gathering b-roll, conducting interviews, etc) and then delivering raw footage directly after.

Mattel & Fisher-Price are relaunching their iconic Rescue Heroes toy line for preschoolers, and to celebrate, they will be partnering with Walmart to host live events at various Walmart stores across the country over the 4th of July holiday. Events will allow kids to meet the real life heroes who inspired the Rescue Heroes franchise, including firefighters and other first responders.

Tongal is looking for three (3) filmmakers to cover the events at the locations listed below on 7/4/19 (yes, the Fourth of July!). The goal for this project is to capture the spirit and energy of the event through B-roll, interviews of attendees, firefighters and first responders, and Walmart store managers on site at the event. To get a sense of the tone of the Rescue Heroes line, take a look at Fisher-Price's Rescue Heroes Animated Series #MadeOnTongal

Event Dates + Locations:

  • Doral, FL (near Miami) - 07/04/19
  • Southgate, CA (near Los Angeles) - 07/04/19

PLEASE NOTE that this project does NOT include any editing. Selected filmmakers will only be required to turn in a hard drive to Tongal with their raw footage from the event.

DELIVERABLES: One (1) filmmaker will be selected for each of the three (3) locations to provide coverage on the day of the event.

  • One (1) hard drive with all raw footage collected on the day of the event.
  • Footage should include B-roll and interviews with event attendees, firefighters & first responders on site, and Walmart store managers & employees assisting with the event
  • Provide your camera info needed for color correction.  Make and model of camera at the minimum.

  • Mattel & Fisher-Price's Social Media & YouTube Channel

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Filmmakers will be required to keep close track of anyone filmed, and obtain release forms for anyone who appears on camera. Also keep in mind any rescue companies on site.
  • Filmmakers should watch out for and try to avoid 3rd party licensed IP (clothing, shoes, hats, strollers, vehicle logos, etc.)
  • Filmmakers must shoot 1080p minimum, 4K maximum.  Horizontal format.  Use square-safe framing (4x3 safe can work too) if possible so it could be converted to social.

In order to be considered for this project you must include the below materials in your Pitch submission. For examples of effective Pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this Video.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): For this project, we'd like filmmakers to submit a slightly different type of treatment. Your treatment should focus on your team, why you'd like to work on this project, and why you think you'd be a great fit to cover these events. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a Treatment template, which you can find here.

  • LOCATION PREFERENCE (REQUIRED): Since this project has three possible locations, please rank your first, second, and third choice of which location you'd like to cover. If you would only like to be considered for one location, please select that location for all three answers.

  • Pitch Video (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatic, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced.

The most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will receive payments to help create the Video(s). Please note the payment of the Pitch award is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Please see the full payment schedule in the Assets tab.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to shooting filmmakers must receive the below Approvals from the sponsor.

  • EXTENDED TREATMENT: This project requires Extended Treatment Approval before filmmakers can move onto the Video Phase. The extended treatment should describe the specifics of how you plan to execute the video and cover the event (i.e. interview formats, list of people you'd like to get interviews from, types of shots you are planning to get, etc.). The sponsor may provide feedback on your Treatment and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a Treatment is approved by the brand.
  • EVENT TEAM: This project requires Event Team Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You must submit the bios and credits for people on your team that will be working with you on the day of the event. This includes but is not limited to producers, DPs & sound techs, production assistants, etc. If the brand does not approve either of your team, you may be asked to submit new crew options.

For your convenience we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a Treatment, Shot List, and Call Sheet.  They can all be accessed here.

ASSET DELIVERY REQUIREMENTS: You must provide all project files and raw footage in order to submit final payment. You will be required to ship an external hard drive to Tongal (located in Santa Monica, CA), and you will be responsible for the costs associated with the hard drive and shipping.
