To celebrate MasterCard’s Priceless Cities campaign, we’re making a series of fun travel Videos featuring locals in Paris, London and Santiago (Chile) to show us what makes their city priceless.

Update from the Sponsor for the Pitch Phase - NOW OPEN!

1) Filmmakers, please review the winning Stories - HERE - and submit your Pitch on TWO Stories in either Paris, London, or Santiago.

2) We've also given you the opportunity to submit a WILDCARD PITCH! This means, you can submit your Pitch for either Paris, London or Santiago and include your own TWO original subjects/hosts/stories about why that city is Priceless.

3) We are further opening up the Challenge so it doesn't feel as restricted to locals. Now, in your Wildcard Pitch, you can tell us how you plan to create TWO Videos in either Paris, London or Santiago around the theme of "Look at all these hidden gems in my Priceless City!" through the lens of A) speaking to tourists from anywhere about why Paris/London/Santiago is priceless and B) speaking to tourists about how they can find a little taste of home even when they're visiting these Priceless Cities.

Traveling abroad, the best tour guides are always the locals. How else would you find out about that underground speakeasy or that secret midnight bakery? The long-time residents and the expats – now they’re the real experts! They know it all, from the popular outposts to the uniquely hidden gems, and are your one-way ticket to the best their city has to offer.

That’s why MasterCard is looking for YOU – the savviest homegrown residents and the most experienced expats in three different vacation destinations: PARIS, LONDON, and SANTIAGO – to show us what makes your city priceless.

Storytellers: Submit your Story telling us why you'd be perfect on-camera and what you love so much about your Priceless City. You can upload your pic or a video too. This is your chance to star in your own travel video! Be like Anthony Bourdain and tell us about parts unknown or do your best Brooke Burke and host us on wild adventures. We want your guidance, your expertise and your local flavor. Get ready to show us your favorite spots and share with us the culture, the people and the places that make your city priceless. (See below to find out if you meet the requirements or know someone who does.)

MasterCard is looking for --

  • In Paris-

o   ONE local Parisian from Paris

o   ONE Brit expat now living in Paris

  • In London-

o   ONE local Brit from London

o   ONE American expat now living in London

  • In Santiago (Chile) -

o   ONE local Chilean from Santiago

o   ONE Latin American (not Chilean) expat now living in Santiago

(NOTE: During the Story Phase, you can also submit yourself as a "Host" as long as you explain why you would be a compelling star and include information/photos/videos about the TWO locals you'd profile in Paris, London or Santiago. If you’re selected as a Host, you must make yourself available to fly out to your chosen city during the Video Production Phase. The specific travel & shoot dates will be chosen by the Pitch winner assigned to film your Story. You will also be responsible for your own travel arrangements.)

Filmmakers: want a great excuse to book a ticket to Paris, London or Santiago and share a couple great untold stories with the world? Take this opportunity to visit the winning locals in their very own priceless cities. Here’s your chance to bring their seasoned wisdom to life in the most authentic way, and capture all of the magic and excitement we never even knew about their city.

Together, your Videos should inspire MasterCard cardholders to come visit and see for themselves what makes these cities priceless!

The goal of this project is to create an exciting travel series of TWO 30-60 second Videos to help celebrate MasterCard’s Priceless Cities Campaign.  Your authentic, fun, and shareable Videos should feature the winning local residents and expats living in Paris, London and Santiago (Chile) sharing what makes their city priceless and worth a visit.

Show us a unique perspective through the eyes of someone who lives in Paris, London and Santiago and inspire MasterCard cardholders to dream about these priceless cities for their next urban exploration. Make them walk away with a slightly different view of that city – one that further piques their curiosity to experience it, and a sense that it’s even more magical than they thought it to be.

The specific dates will be chosen by the Pitch winner assigned to film your Story. You will also be responsible for your own travel arrangements.)

Here’s how this is going to work:

Filmmakers will be telling TWO “stories” through the voice of TWO different locals about how they’d each describe the fabric of the city in which they live (e.g., what’s special and a must see or do?). Storytellers, please select from the dropdown menu whether you are 1) a local long-time resident or 2) an expat. We encourage you to include a picture of yourself or a Pitch Video that will give us a better sense of your magnetic personality :)

  • For Paris-

o   ONE video featuring a local, long time Parisian and

o   ONE video featuring a Brit expat now living in Paris.

  • For London-

o   ONE video featuring a local, long time Brit and

o   ONE video featuring an American expat now living in London.

  • For Santiago (Chile) - (note: TWO expats)

o   ONE video featuring a local Chilean from Santiago and

o   ONE video featuring a Latin American (not Chilean) expat now living in Santiago.

For the videos that will feature a local long-time resident talking about their city, the message should be more focused on how the city is full of “hidden gems” that often go unknown or unexplored by even those who live there.  It should be more inspirational, to get out and enjoy the city in their backyard.

The videos through the voice of an expat should be a mix of what they discovered that they share with people coming in and what exists that offers them a little taste of home. Build on the trust that someone from their own country knows best what they’d like to see/do. (ie:  A Brit taking about a hidden gem in Paris and a pub that serves the best fish n chips.)

**PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE MUST BE TRUE STORIES AND STORY SUBMITTERS MUST BE AGE 21+ TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS PROJECT. PAYMENT FOR A WIN IS CONTINGENT UPON YOUR COOPERATION WITH THE WINNING FILMMAKER SELECTED TO BRING YOUR STORY TO LIFE AND THAT YOU AGREE TO BE FEATURED ON CAMERA AS THE STAR OF YOUR VIDEO. DO NOT SUBMIT IF YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE OR UNWILLING TO BE ON CAMERA.**

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • The TWO 30-60 second Videos and supporting Social Content (including 5 Instagram-ready still images and one fun behind-the-scenes Video) are all due at the close of the Video Phase.  Please upload them as separate files when submitting your Videos.

  • Videos can be in English, French, Spanish, or Portuguese but you may be required to add English subtitles.

  • Please do not make your storytelling rely on on-camera dialogue only. Show us in compelling lifestyle visuals, rather than tell us, and feel free to integrate text and graphics on screen. Remember, your videos may be seen by viewers from all over the world, who speak different languages and come from different cultural backgrounds, so please make sure your content can travel.

--Target Audience:  One Video per market will be geared towards an international visitor unfamiliar with the city, the second Video for that same market will be geared towards a local.  What is common among the visitors and locals is that they are both classified as “urban explorers”, people who are drawn to the dynamism of city life and appreciate and want to continuously learn about the local cultures and people.

--Executional Mandatories:

  • Story submitters must be age 21 or older, and Filmmakers must be age 18 or older to participate in this project.
  • Do not show alcohol.
  • Do not show competitive products, or other brands that require approval.
  • Do not show logos on any clothing in your Video.
  • You must get signed Tongal Location Releases for all locations shown in your Videos.
  • You do not need to show a MasterCard card in your Video.
  • The Sponsor will provide a branded end card.

--Tone:  Authentic, exciting, unique, shareable, warm & friendly. Your Videos should inspire and feel aspirational, but not in a way that feels elitist.  The cities we are talking about have something for everyone, regardless of your passions and/or social status.

--Exposure:  Intended for use on the Priceless Cities site and on MasterCard social and digital channels.

This Project will be worth a total of $75,000 and consists of 3 Phases: a Story Phase, a Pitch Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

Please upload a Photo Image (required) or Pitch Video (optional) of yourself enjoying your Priceless City and pitching yourself for this opportunity.

Please first select your Authentic Local Persona from the dropdown menu:

  • I am a Parisian from Paris
  • I am a British Expat now living in Paris
  • I am a Brit from London
  • I am an American Expat now living in London
  • I am a Latin American Expat now living in Santiago (Chile)

The SIX winning Story creators will each receive $1,000. Payment for a win in the Story phase is contingent on your completion of the Winner’s Affidavit, the IP Assignment, cooperation with the winning filmmaker selected to bring your Story to life and that you agree to be featured on camera as the star of your Video.

PHASE 2: PITCH -

**This Phase now includes a WILDCARD PITCH**

Submit your Pitch (What Is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute TWO Videos based in ONE of the Priceless Cities. Please first select from the dropdown menu which Priceless City you will be pitching on:

  • Paris - based on the winning Stories (Parisian from Paris + British Expat)
  • London - based on the winning Stories (Brit from London + American Expat)
  • Santiago - based on the winning Stories (Latin American Expats)
  • Wildcard Pitch - based on your own TWO Stories from either London, Paris or Santiago

To best present your skills, you can include:

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this Video.

  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.

  • Treatment (Optional): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video.

  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across.

  • Headshots/Casting Boards (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.

  • Pitch Video (Optional): This is your opportunity to show us what you're capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome.

The THREE most compelling Pitches will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will each receive $10,000 to help create their TWO Videos.  Additionally, upon submitting the TWO Videos that satisfy the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winners will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase.  So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your TWO Video submissions, you will win an additional $9,500, at a minimum, and have a chance to compete for the $20,000 First Place Video prize. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out Erik Beck’s winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

**PLEASE NOTE, IF YOU ARE NOT LOCATED IN THESE PRICELESS CITIES, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR TRAVELING YOURSELF AND YOUR FILM CREW TO THE LOCATIONS TO CAPTURE THE NECESSARY FOOTAGE AND BRING YOUR TWO STORIES TO LIFE**

PHASE 3: VIDEO – The THREE winners from the Pitch Phase will each create TWO 30-60 second Videos (plus supporting Social Content - including five still images and one fun behind-the-scenes Video) based upon their winning Pitch. The Judges will score the SIX winning Videos submitted by the THREE Pitch winners to determine the standings for the Video Phase.  Remember, the THREE Pitch winners will receive prizes.

Note: Please upload both Videos on the same file to Tongal by the Video Phase deadline. Please upload your five still images and one behind-the-scenes Video to the corresponding prompts on Tongal by the Video Phase deadline.

--Video Phase Payout: Winners of the Video Phase will earn the following prizes: 1st place $20,000, 2nd place $9,500 and 3rd place $9,500.

--Music:  Tongal has partnered with two premiere music providers: Killer Tracks and Epidemic Sound. Any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. You may use up to THREE total tracks per Video submission, and they can come from any of the two providers listed above. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.

If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from other catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with our Music Release Form when you turn in your Video paperwork.

--Referral: Any Tongal member who refers one of the winning Video creators in this Project using the Tongal “Invite Friends” functionality will receive a referral fee equal to 5% of the amount won. That’s a potential $1,450 per place in bonus cash just for telling all of your talented friends about this Project! Check out more about our Referral Program in FAQ.
