Produce simple, authentic, and unedited 1-2 minute videos that show children enjoying the content available on Pinna, an on-demand audio streaming service that can entertain kids without screens.

** Project Update: We've extended the video phase to June 11 so you have more time to submit Wildcards! **

Pinna is an on-demand audio streaming service that reimagines kids’ entertainment. Each podcast, audiobook, and music track on Pinna is expertly developed and carefully curated for kids ages 3 to 12. From science and fantasy to interactive game shows and mysteries, Pinna has hundreds of hours of programming to pique the interest of every kid. With Pinna, kids will want to sit quietly and just listen, laugh along to the jokes, be enthralled by an adventure, and participate in Pinna game shows. It's a screen-free, kid-safe, platform that provides entertaining, high-quality, and award-winning content.

Pinna is looking to create videos that show kids can actually be entertained without screens. We're looking for raw, unedited footage, 1 to 2 minutes in length, in either vertical (9:16) or horizontal (16:9) format so that Pinna could repurpose them for future video assets.

Your video could include footage of Pinna being used by a parent to start playing content, but then it should largely focus on children engaging with, or participating in, the content itself. This can involve footage of children playing a game, reacting to a story, responding to questions, imagining themselves as characters and acting along, etc. The content's audio, as well as the children's voices and the sound of their actions, should be clearly audible.

Please see additional considerations below:

  • Think about capturing 15s video clips of your child laughing or playing as part of the footage capture.
  • Other Pinna use occasions and listening moments could be:
    • Bedtime
    • Morning routine
    • Car rides
    • Homeschooling
    • Indoor/outdoor play
    • Moments of play, singing, relaxed, and active
    • Show kids using their imagination i.e. underneath a fort, playing dress-up, etc
  • Think about capturing content with seasonal cues:
    • For summer, show kids listening outside and by the pool/beach
    • For back to school, show kids with backpacks and books
  • Think about showing a variety of groups i.e. a group of 5 kids listening together, a group of two kids listening together, one kid listening, a whole family listening together, a kid listening with a parent, etc

WILDCARD: Pinna will be selecting 8 Creators in the Pitch Phase, but if your pitch isn't selected, or if you don't have the chance to put together a pitch, you still have a chance to make a video. Any and all creators are invited to submit a WILDCARD VIDEO in the Video Phase, and Pinna will select 2 additional videos from the Wildcard submissions. By creating a Wildcard, you're taking a creative gamble, but it could have a big payoff, as each Wildcard video selected will receive full payment. As with Pitches, Videos must still adhere to the creative considerations and Executional Mandatories laid out for this Project.

Check out more information in the Background / Additional Details section. For any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

DELIVERABLES:

  • One 1 to 2-minute unedited video in either (9x16) or (16x9) format.
  • All project files and RAW footage.

TIMELINE:

  • Project Launch: May 13
  • Pitch Phase: May 13 - May 18
  • Pitch winners selected by Sponsor: May 21
  • Video Phase: May 24 – June 11
  • Video selection due from Sponsor for Wildcards: June 15
  • Videos QC’d and delivered: June 15 - June 18

TARGET AUDIENCE: Parents, specifically moms, with kids between 3 and 12 with the focus on kids between 6-10.

TONE: Authentic - think real families in real situations - seeing and hearing how their kids enjoy Pinna.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • Your videos should mention Pinna.
  • Your videos should show the platform but kids should NOT be looking at the screens - we want to stress that Pinna is a screen-free option. The focus should be on the kids and showing an authentic as possible reaction to the content. Are they sitting quietly and listening intently? Are they giggling on the couch with their siblings? Are they asking to listen to it while in the car?
  • Kids should be more engaged in the audio content and the footage should be more focused on capturing the kid's interactions vs. having them looking at the camera and making it feel like it's for show.
  • Check out the Dos and Don'ts in Assets.
  • When mentioning or playing specific content, please stick to Pinna Original brands vs. other content available in the app. You can mention that Pinna has tons of additional podcasts, audiobooks, and music but please avoid specific titles.
  • We are looking for diversity in the casting for these videos.
  • No third-party brands or IP should be shown in the videos. This means if you're filming in your living room, put the Paw Patrol toys away as well as your New York Jets poster. Make sure anyone who appears in the video is wearing unbranded clothing. This means no Frozen or Star Wars t-shirts and no Nike shoes. Do not film in front of a bookcase where the book titles are visible or in front of any art or photographs you do not have the rights to. When in doubt please email info@tongal.com.
  • You could show unbranded toys and props in the footage.
  • If you are using your phone to capture the video, please make sure you are filming in 1080p and at 30FPS (if your phone has a 23.98 FPS setting, that'd be even better).

Shooting live action or stop motion? Our priority is ensuring everyone's safety, so please review our COVID-19 Production Safety Guide and check federal, state, and local rules before and during your shoot to make sure your on-set protocols are up to date. We're working hard to keep people working during this extraordinary time, and you should ensure your submission is executable within the anticipated timeline and budget, while also ensuring everyone's safety.

REFERENCE VIDEOS FOR INSPIRATION OR TONE:

  • While not a direct connection, we are inspired by the app Calm, which does a great job in demonstrating what it is by simply providing a moment of calm in their videos.
  • For more direct inspiration, Moshi does a great job of showing how excited kids are about listening to the stories and the benefits for parents (taking the stress out of bedtime). Yoto Player uses kids to demonstrate how it works while showing how much fun the kids have (also these: Orchestra & Sailing).
  • Additional reference videos: Pinna listeners: Video 1, Video 2, Video 3

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 or fewer characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this video.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • HEADSHOTS/CASTING BOARDS (REQUIRED): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.. Please note the client is looking for diversity in the casting.

  • LOCATION (Optional): This should include locations where you intend to film.

  • SCRIPT (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.

The most compelling pitches will be greenlit, and the responsible creators will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing the next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

The Sponsor will provide feedback on the content included in the original Pitch Treatment, and address any questions that come up, but no additional revised treatment is necessary unless you have something that you'd like to run by the Sponsor.
