Film an event at New York City's 5th Avenue LEGO Store on August 1st, where The LEGO Group will unveil the winning build from the LEGO Masters Season 4 finale, alongside the winning team, with additional media presentations and family activities. You will be responsible for physical production, but hand raw assets off to another editor, who will then edit your footage.

The LEGO Group is looking for a film crew to capture footage at an upcoming special event in New York City. This event will take place on August 1st at the 5th Avenue LEGO Store, in celebration of the release of a brand new LEGO set based on the winning build from Season 4 of the FOX competition television series, LEGO Masters. It will begin before the store itself opens, and continue throughout the day, and there are a number of key moments and that LEGO wants to capture and feature in content related to the event.

For this project, you will need to assemble a team and capture b-roll footage, with audio, for the full run of the day. We expect that the day will begin with a media presentation of the winning build, including the builders from the winning team. From there, the LEGO model itself will then be elevated and put on full display atop a black podium, where press and media will be able to get up close and personal with the set, and also ask the winning team questions. Once the store opens, LEGO will be providing an exclusive gift for the first 1,000 fans that come in to see the model, and the actual LEGO Masters champions will be onsite providing autographs for anyone who purchases the set based on their winning build.

We'll expect you to capture each of the key moments that happens before the store opens, and at the beginning of the day when fans are allowed in. You'll need to shoot behind-the-scenes footage of the LEGO set, the press presentation, and the interviews, along with families taking part in the store giveaway and signing event. There is a chance we may want you to interview customers while filming as well. We're hoping to see interesting camera movement and you'll be moving around on your feet throughout the day, so you may want a stabilization option like a gimbal. You should capture content for a 9x16 aspect ratio, but also ensure that it can be used for a 16x9 format. Once you've captured your footage, you'll need to immediately provide all of your raw footage to an editor, who will use it to create a :30 - :45 YouTube Short (9x16) about the event and the new LEGO set. You won't be responsible for any post-production.

We're expecting production to be run by a more local team, so no additional travel budget will be provided. For any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

By participating in this project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a submission. Though most projects do move forward, we'll notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any submissions via the Project Forum. Regardless of the result, all submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and project team.

In order to be considered, include the below materials in your submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery. All Pitches remain private, even after a Pitch is selected, and Tongal strives to have Pitch selections made by the end of the Evaluation period, but additional time may be required by the Sponsor, depending on any number of factors.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): Up to 500 characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and produce the content listed in the Deliverables.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A more detailed and specific description of how you propose to execute all of the content listed out in the Deliverables. Explain what we can expect to see, and how you'll make it. If it's helpful, we've provided a treatment template HERE.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, editor, artist, etc.) but do not include links to your showreel. Please link to individual videos.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show what you're capable of. Consider a video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect, or consider test videos, proof-of-concept edits, animatics, etc. For examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit by the Sponsor, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal, typically included with the project timeline.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to the commencement of actual production, creators MUST receive final approval from the Sponsor on the elements below. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until an element is approved.

If you begin production before you have received final approval, you may need to reshoot or reanimate at your own expense.

  • TREATMENT Describe in detail how you plan to execute the content, and how you plan to bring it to life visually. Feel free to use concept art, references, style frames, or mock-ups. If relevant, share additional information about your team, and your process.
  • SHOOTING OUTLINE: This project requires shooting outline approval. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your outline and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until an outline is approved by the Sponsor.

For convenience, we've provided some helpful templates that you can consider using for pre-production materials, and they can all be accessed here.
