Produce an entertaining and relatable video series that will position PayPal as a trusted advisor to university students and recent graduates in Mexico, by providing helpful advice on how they can better manage and make more out of their money.

Managing your money can be stressful - especially when you're just starting out as a university student, or recent graduate, and you're navigating a global pandemic. And while there are lots of resources out there, many of them can be dry, dull, or just plain complicated. That's why PayPal is looking to help university students & recent graduates in Mexico, by developing a fun, relatable video series, that provides helpful, easy-to-understand advice on how they can make the most of their money.

Being a student or recent graduate is a very specific stage of life, and it's important that this content be tailor made for that audience - in both style & substance. A key thing to consider is how the information will be delivered, and how we can make financial content relatable & easy to understand. PayPal will be providing the key educational beats each episode will need to cover (and you can view the planned topics for episodes 1 & 2 in the Background/Additional Details section below), but how that information is organized and presented is up to you. You'll also need to find a spokesperson to host or otherwise shepherd this series (more on that below), and a good format and solid writing can help elevate this figure. What is the format, and what is the tone? What would you title this series to help set that tone right from the start? Be sure to address those points in your pitch.

The look and feel of this series is also going to be critical for this project. Would you shoot live action in a studio or a lifestyle setting? Would you go for more of an animated approach? Or maybe something in between? Is your host seated & delivering information, or are they moving through a space? Your pitch should address how the visuals of your content would help make financial advice more fun, relatable and cool for our young target audience. Graphics and transitions should play a heavy part in this too, so think holistically about how this series will look & feel. In addition to the videos, you will also be responsible for designing a thumbnail and YouTube header template to match your video aesthetic, and help brand the series on the PayPal Mexico YouTube channel.

Finding the right host for this series is going to be super important. You need someone with native level speaking fluency in Mexican Spanish, charisma, authenticity, wit, and an ability to land a joke or two - while still remaining credible. But what a "host" means is up to you. Is it someone who leads the series in a traditional sense, or someone who provides VO to a more visual-driven approach? Or something entirely different? Think of this person as giving off the vibe of a trusted friend, offering some easy & relatable advice. Much of the weight of this series will rest on their shoulders, and they'll either need to appear on screen, provide voiceover for each episode, or otherwise help drive the series in each episode (depending on your creative approach). Though not required at the pitch stage, we'd highly recommend including headshots or demo reels of any potential hosts you have in mind, in your submission.

Lastly, while this project scope only includes YouTube deliverables, the greenlit filmmaker will also have the opportunity to potentially receive additional funding to create promotional social content for the series (including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok assets) further into the development process. You can choose to address how your series approach could translate to social formats in your pitch, but that is NOT required at this stage.

For any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

TARGET AUDIENCE: University students & recent graduates (ages 18-25) in Mexico

TONE:

  • Fun, approachable, and informative
  • Youthful & age specific for university students & recent graduates

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

  • You do NOT need to be located in Mexico in order to pitch on this project. However, all content will need to be designed with a Mexico-based audience in mind, and your host will need to have native level speaking fluency in Mexican Spanish.
  • Spokesperson or host must be within the target age demo.
  • All dialogue & text on screen must be in Spanish. However, because members of the Sponsor team speak both English & Spanish, you will be asked to provide an English written translation at each review stage to help the team with initial reviews.
  • Content must be entertaining, but efficient. Always remember that people will be watching to learn a lesson first & foremost.
  • Graphics & Transitions must be used to give the video a coherent look and feel.

Shooting live action or stop motion? Our priority is ensuring everyone's safety, so please review our COVID-19 Production Safety Guide and check federal, state, and local rules before and during your shoot to make sure your on-set protocols are up to date. We're working hard to keep people working during this extraordinary time, and you should ensure your submission is executable within the anticipated timeline and budget, while also ensuring everyone's safety.

Episodes 1 & 2 will focus on the following topics. Episodes 3-7 topics will be provided to the greenlit filmmaker:

  • EPISODE 1 - BUDGETING: Focusing on budgeting / payment options to make your money go further when moving out on your own for the first time, or furnishing your first space. PayPal offers the ability to pay in installments, to make your money go further for these purchases.
  • EPISODE 2 - MAKE YOUR MONEY MATTER MORE: Focusing on what it means for a brand or product to be sustainable, or work towards positive social impact. PayPal offers the ability to shop and checkout from thousands of retailers, all in one easy place.

Below are some helpful insights on university students & recent graduates in our target demo:

  • For many, Money = Stress. They want advice on how they can manage it better.
  • They are focused on building a positive future.
  • They are savvy about spending, but convenience often wins vs cost.
  • They care about brands that stand for something, or care about them.
  • They often see PayPal as unapproachable, and are unsure where they can use PayPal, or why they should.
  • For many, Time is the most valuable commodity.

A key component for this project will be delivering information that is sometimes hard to explain in a way that is relatable & easy to understand. Below are some examples of content that breaks down complex topics in combination with aesthetics designed to appeal to a similar age demographic:

For a sense of youthful & fun content that has been created for the PayPal Mexico team (albeit in a different style), please check out the  videos below:

All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Please see the full payment schedule in the Assets section.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to shooting, filmmakers must receive the below approvals from the Sponsor.

  • WARDROBE: This project requires wardrobe approval. You will need to submit descriptions and/or pictures of your cast’s wardrobe. You must submit at least two wardrobe options per role. For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a treatment, production budget, storyboards, shot list, call sheet, and a music cue sheet. Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present cast, location, and wardrobe options to the Sponsor. They can all be accessed here.

BUILDING YOUR TEAM: Tongal supports inclusivity in all of our productions and strongly encourages you to hire diverse talent for your team. To find staff & crew in your area, check out these resources and partners.
