'Meet Your Equal' Dating Testimonial Project
Pitch
01/19/23 - 01/27/23
Video
03/21/23 - 03/21/23

Create an unconventional scripted testimonial video showcasing successful couples that met on The League.

The League offers a high-quality curated experience for driven professionals who want to cultivate meaningful and loving egalitarian relationships. In their continued push to raise awareness and drive app downloads, they want to create a live action testimonial-style video that clearly and directly tells their audience what The League is all about. The goal of this video is to showcase the result of successful League matches through hypothetical power couples that are given the chance to speak about their experiences using The League dating app. Someone watching this video should feel that they don’t need to settle, acquiesce their ambitions, or wade through an endless stream of daters to find a partner who values their intelligence and supports their passions.

To be clear, this does not need to use real couples or real League users. However, the selected cast should feel authentic to The League's demographic. We can even furnish talent with access to The League, should you need to do so for your concept. It's important that the couples portrayed represent a broad range of professions, but think beyond your parents' idea of what a successful career might be. The League has doctors, but it also has musicians, athletes, gallery owners, tech executives, Michelin chefs, etc.

Paramount to this video will be a clever script. The League team wants an unconventional take on the testimonial video, to keep things feeling fresh and unique. Remember, The League is a bold brand that's not afraid to be cheeky & offbeat. The League has provided some thought starters in the Background, but they should serve to give you a sense of what we mean by unconventional, and while we're not totally closed off to you adapting one of them, feel free to come up with your own original ideas and creative executions. You're not at all limited here.

Due to the fast-moving timeline of this project, we are requiring a script with your pitch. We'll discuss the script on our KickOff Call with The League team and work closely with them in honing it to their style, so don't overthink it. For any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

By participating in this project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a bid. Though most projects on our platform do move forward with a greenlit bid, we will notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any bids via the project forum. Regardless of the result, all submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and the project team.

Shooting live action or stop motion? Our priority is ensuring everyone's safety, and we're now requiring a COVID safety protocol plan for all relevant productions. Please review our COVID-19 Production Safety Guide and check federal, state, and local rules before and during your shoot to make sure your on-set protocols are up to date. We're working hard to keep people working during this extraordinary time, and you should ensure your submission is executable within the anticipated timeline and budget, while also ensuring everyone's safety.

Launched in 2015 and modeled after private members-only clubs like Soho House, The League is a highly selective dating app devoted to creating power couples from its influential members. They strive to build a community where smart, outspoken, high-achieving individuals are celebrated and encouraged to pursue their ambitions and where equal partnerships are the rule, not the exception.

As a product, The League works extremely well, boasting one of the highest match rates in the industry. Rather than an unlimited stream of prospects, The League gives its users a curated “Batch” of 3 to 8 prospects each day. Features such as League Live, their video speed dating feature allowing users to go on up to 3 three-minute mini dates each Sunday, increase match rate 3x. Additionally, users can browse their ‘Party Scout’ map, make friend requests, join local events and local & global interest-based groups to help daters meet offline and expand their social network.

MESSAGING: At The League, you can have it all, and they want you to. They stand for individuals that are equal in the workplace and equal in relationships with like-minded standards and ambition. The brand suggests choosing one key message, and considering the below key differentiators.

Key Differentiators:

  • Selective: Their waitlist and vetting system is in place to surround you with a community of like-minded people committed to finding a long-term relationship.
  • Driven: They work hard to make sure The League is chalk full of smart (highly-educated), passionate (career-oriented) individuals who are seeking an elevated dating experience.
  • Authenticated: You’ll never have to wonder if that Harvard hottie is too good to be true on The League, everyone must authenticate their account. They do the LinkedIn stalking for you to ensure a safe community full of real prospects.
  • No games: In dating apps, there’s an epidemic of failed relationships and unfaithful behavior. The gamified nature of other dating apps turns swiping from a service into a sport. They save your time, energy, and swipe thumb.

THOUGHT STARTERS: A few ideas from The League creative team to get you started. Riff on these or, if you're up to the challenge, come up with something better.

  • Borrow inspiration from the 73 questions series by Vogue and create a montage of couples answering a range of both pertinent and wildcard questions in rapid succession.
  • Spoof a version of the Bachelor / Bachelorette teaser that teases the story of the couple and how they met on The League.
  • Have couples tell the same story in a wildly different or funny way. Sometimes couples interpret things completely differently. Maybe one thinks the first date was a success, the other thinks it was a failure; yet in the end their love prevailed.
  • Create a video that's self-aware without drifting too far into cliché.

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): Up to 500 characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and produce the content listed out in the Deliverables.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A more detailed and specific description of how you propose to execute all of the content listed out in the Deliverables, both in terms of what we can expect to see, and how you’ll make it. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • SCRIPT (REQUIRED): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.

  • COVID PROTOCOL (REQUIRED): Please let us know your team’s COVID safety protocols for production. If you’re doing everything yourself, or your team will be working 100% remotely, let us know that this won’t apply. Otherwise, at the very minimum, your safety plan must include information about:
    • What city and state you plan to film in
    • Whether you are filming interiors or exteriors
    • Approximately how many people you plan to have on set
    • How you’ll account for testing, PPE, and distancing on set
    • How you’ll handle talent and backup talent, including any hair, make-up, and wardrobe needs
    • Whether you’ll have a dedicated compliance officer on set

  • STORYBOARDS (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. You can download the Tongal storyboard template here.

  • HEADSHOTS/CASTING BOARDS (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Please see the full payment schedule in the Assets section.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to shooting, filmmakers must receive the below approvals from the Sponsor.

  • SCRIPT: This project requires script approval. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a script is approved by the Sponsor.
  • CASTING: This project requires casting approval. Tongal advocates for inclusivity in on-screen representation and diversity in casting. As a best practice, please submit three to four options per role, with at least one of those options being a person of color. If the Sponsor does not approve any of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new actor options. Additionally, owing to the risk of disruption from COVID, you will be expected to have backup talent approved by the Sponsor in advance of production to account for any last-minute changes.
  • STORYBOARD: This project requires storyboard approval. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your storyboard and ask you to submit a new version.
  • LOCATION: This project requires location approval. This means you will need to submit multiple images of your primary filming location. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your location and ask you to submit additional photos or to find a new location and submit images for that.
  • WARDROBE: This project requires wardrobe approval. You will need to submit descriptions and/or pictures of your cast’s wardrobe. You must submit at least two wardrobe options per role. If the Sponsor does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new wardrobe options.

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a treatment, production budget, storyboards, shot list, call sheet, and a music cue sheet. Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present cast, location, and wardrobe options to the Sponsor. They can all be accessed here.

BUILDING YOUR TEAM: Tongal supports inclusivity in all of our productions and strongly encourages you to hire diverse talent for your team. To find staff & crew in your area, check out these resources and partners.
