Big Idea by David Kilgo
Kids aspire to be groundbreaking innovators in many ways and a great way to encourage them is with the geniuses they admire and Lego Technic. Lego could interview several technological innovators on how they developed their gift as kids and how it helped them down the road. Lego Technic could even release special sets that these innovators helped design or, at least, helped inspire. Innovators could be both real and fictional; extreme examples are Elon Musk and Tony Stark, respectively.
What would you do in digital?
Ads, both on websites and e-zines, featuring innovators inviting viewers to come check out Lego Technic's main page for full interviews. Once on this page, innovators are interviewed in videos, discussing creativity, ambition and Lego Technic.
What would be the messaging and or tagline for the overall campaign?
Use of actual quotes from innovators that would encourage kids to get excited about their futures as well as Lego Technic. Examples of taglines are "Great Minds Think Alike", "Getting Technical with (Innovator's Name)" and "Are You Geared Up?".
What types of live event activations do you envision as part of the campaign?
Kids could come see innovators, like engineers, scientists or astronauts, live at events around the country. These events, that feature speeches, demonstrations and Q&As, could be held at science exhibits or any popular location for field trips.
What kind of print materials or visual images would you create?
Individual shots of these innovators as they look forward, yet far into the distance. Beneath them, inspiring quotes that would encourage kids to be the next big innovator, no matter who they are. The Lego Technic logo is displayed in the top right.
How would you ensure these materials reach the right audience?
Advertising online on both websites and pre-roll ads on YouTube videos popular with kids. Print advertisements featured in the toy aisles at retailers like Target or Wal-Mart near the Lego section. Partner with a food chain like Subway or McDonald's.
