Create three different :30 stop-motion videos, based on provided scripts, that celebrate key LEGO Star Wars moments in 2024 to promote LEGO sets available at Walmart.

Superfans of LEGO Star Wars - this one's for you! The LEGO Group and Walmart are looking for a stop-motion animator or team to create 3 different :30 videos that revolve around key LEGO Star Wars moments in 2024, and while many of the specifics are highly confidential, rest assured this is a very exciting opportunity that will allow creators to animate using LEGO bricks, lean into nostalgia, and celebrate classic Star Wars themes and characters. These videos will will be featured both in Walmart stores and on social media, and they'll ultimately be used to celebrate tentpole events like May the 4th and the LEGO Star Wars 25th Anniversary.

The goal of this project is to generate awareness and excitement about LEGO Star Wars and to highlight a number of particular sets available at Walmart. The individual video concepts, scripts, and list of required sets will be provided, so you will only be responsible for bringing the stories to life as part of the video production process, from the treatment stage through post-production and delivery. We want kid and adult fans of LEGO alike to see that Walmart carries fantastic LEGO Star Wars sets that can be perfect personal builds or exciting building opportunities for the whole family, so we'll be looking to infuse the scripts with energy, excitement, and nostalgia that plays for a broad audience.

The videos should take place in an entirely brick-built world and should not include any voiceover, hand models, or onscreen talent.  It is unlikely that we'll have access to Star Wars music, so you should plan to utilize one of Tongal's music libraries. We are also expecting for this project to include design elements that will be decided during pre-production (think end cards, titles, etc.)

Several of the featured sets will be unreleased Walmart exclusives, which will be shipped to you directly. Tongal will also reimburse you for any additional brick purchases, separate from the production budget, and it's possible you'll need those.

As a callout, when you check out the timeline, you'll see that Video 1 is labeled as a teaser and is on a separate, accelerated timeline. This video, while a standalone :30 element, will also need to be integrated as a part of and lead into Video 2 which will celebrate May the 4th. Details of this will be explained and collaborated on once a filmmaker is greenlit. The milestones we've outlined for this teaser are the latest possible dates that we'd need to hit in order to deliver on time, and we'll need to finish that in advance of Video 2. Video 3, which celebrates the LEGO Star Wars 25th Anniversary, will come later with tentative timing outlined in the timeline.

HELPFUL REFERENCE VIDEOS FOR INSPIRATION/TONE:

In order to be considered, include the below materials in your submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery. All Pitches remain private, even after a Pitch is selected, and Tongal strives to have Pitch selections made by the end of the Evaluation period, but additional time may be required by the Sponsor, depending on any number of factors.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): Up to 500 characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and produce the content listed in the Deliverables.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A more detailed and specific description of how you propose to execute all of the content listed out in the Deliverables. Explain what we can expect to see, and how you'll make it. If it's helpful, we've provided a treatment template HERE.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, editor, artist, etc.) but do not include links to your showreel. Please link to individual videos.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show what you're capable of. Consider a video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect, or consider test videos, proof-of-concept edits, animatics, etc. For examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit by the Sponsor, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal, typically included with the project timeline.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to the commencement of actual production, creators MUST receive final approval from the Sponsor on the elements below. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until an element is approved.

If you begin production before you have received final approval, you may need to reshoot or reanimate at your own expense.

  • TREATMENT Describe in detail how you plan to execute the content, and how you plan to bring it to life visually. Feel free to use concept art, references, style frames, or mock-ups. If relevant, share additional information about your team, and your process.

  • ANIMATIC: Using rough animation or Storyboard panels, edit together a preliminary version of your content. It is best practice to include music and temp dialogue or VO, when relevant.

For convenience, we've provided some helpful templates that you can consider using for pre-production materials, and they can all be accessed here.
