Create a suite of three short stop motion videos for The LEGO Group that show how fun and satisfying it can be to watch LEGO bricks organize.

Calling all LEGO fans! If you love color-coding and enjoy the simple pleasure of seeing things tidy and organized, this is the project for you. The LEGO Group is looking for a stop motion filmmaker to create a suite of three videos that highlight the fun and sometimes even magical side of sorting bricks, by making it seem as if the bricks are organizing themselves.

The goal of this project is to create three different videos for The LEGO Group's YouTube and social media channels, each using stop motion to show LEGO bricks being organized in a way that is playful and unexpected. We say "bricks organizing bricks" because we do imagine that this feels like the bricks are coming to life. In your video, you might start with a messy, chaotic heap of disorganized bricks, but then - as if they have a mind of their own - we’d see the bricks start to magically move about. Some of the bricks of a particular color will build themselves into a container, while the rest will start to sort themselves into it. The LEGO Group has provided a short treatment that lays out what they see, but you do the flexibility to be more creative in how you execute it yourself.

Your videos should sort bricks by color, and/or by brick type, and however you break it down between the videos, your suite should show different forms of organization. To ensure that each video stands on its own, and feels distinct, each video should also feature a different color scheme and assortment of bricks. Whether there's a large variety of colors, or just two complementary colors, is up to you. Since each "container" should also be made of LEGO bricks, you should think about how that container comes together, and what it looks like: Whether it be drawers, boxes, cubbies, bowls, chests, or baskets, the bricks should find unique ways of building their own storage, and you should keep the audience guessing.

Playful quirks that imply a bit of individuality among the bricks can add moments of fun throughout. For, example, one brick might keep trying to go in the wrong container and the other bricks kick it out, or two bricks could end in the wrong places and have to swap. think about little narratives or visual gags that could elevate this, feel free to get creative, and think outside the box as well.

For this project, we’re looking for a filmmaker who is well-versed in stop motion animation. Building experience with LEGO is also a plus, so make sure to detail any prior experience you may have in your pitch. We're really want see how you plan to bring your vision to life in these quick videos, so get specific about your approach and let us know what you’re thinking about color schemes, backgrounds, lighting, etc.

Shooting live action or stop motion? Our priority is ensuring everyone's safety, so please review our COVID-19 Production Safety Guide and check federal, state, and local rules before and during your shoot to make sure your on-set protocols are up to date. We're working hard to keep people working during this extraordinary time, and you should ensure your submission is executable within the anticipated timeline and budget, while also ensuring everyone's safety.

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): Up to 500 characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and produce the content listed out in the Deliverables.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A more detailed and specific description of how you propose to execute all of the content listed out in the Deliverables, both in terms of what we can expect to see, and how you’ll make it. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal.
