Meow Wolf has an upcoming Omega Mart event in November and they're looking to source several comedic Instagram content creators or influencers that can create a humorous fake product unboxing video, along with two short video posts to tease the event and their video, while also leveraging their existing channel.

Meow Wolf is an arts production company that creates immersive, multimedia experiences that transport audiences of all ages into fantastic realms, inspiring creativity in people’s lives through art, exploration, and play. The Meow Wolf location in Las Vegas, Omega Mart, is a mind-bending neon-colored grocery full of unbelievable products and portals to other dimensions. It's particularly beloved, and it's an indescribable and dynamic combination of maximalist art, interactive exploration, and non-linear storytelling. If you're not already familiar, go down the rabbit hole and check out some of the Omega Mart social content, or some of Meow Wolf's own social content. Now, Omega Mart has a special event coming up in November, and although we can't say very much about it, what we can say is that they're looking for several comedic Instagram content creators or influencers that can create a humorous fake product unboxing video to feature as part of that event.

The goal of this project is ultimately to find creators or influencers with a meaningful following, and then have each create three videos to help support the Omega Mart event: one video will be the actual fake product unboxing, which will be no more than 2 minutes, and will be played by Meow Wolf during the event; and the other two will be short Instagram in-feed posts or stories that drive people to sign-up for, and then attend the event - both of those videos will need to be posted on the creator's channel. Ideally, we'd love creators who're already familiar with Omega Mart or the brand, although that's not technically required if you take a look and you realize, "this is totally my vibe."

It's not a mandatory that you're the creator or influencer yourself: if you don't have a substantial following, but there's a creator who's willing to collaborate with you, we're open to considering that. Either way, creators should have a following of at least 8,000 on Instagram, and Meow Wolf is willing to consider people who have up to 500,000 or more. They also recognize that the ultimate cost will reflect the size of the creator's audience. In terms of geography, creators should ideally be located in the United States or Canada to receive product, but it's actually more important that your audience is predominantly located within the US or Canada.

The fake product unboxing video should be filmed naturally, in your own style - whatever that style may be - and in whatever space you'd ordinarily film in. If you haven't already done an unboxing video, this should be your version of a "real" unboxing with a "real" product. Note though that the Omega Mart product itself is going to be something wild, weird, and unexpected, kind of like these products or this product, and we expect that your video might include a twist of some kind to reflect that. If you're selected, Meow Wolf will provide either a specific product, or a selection of products, depending on what makes the most sense for you - you'll get to have a say in it, either way. The unboxing video will be used within the event that they're running, and potentially shared on their social feeds after.

As for the event, we can't actually share more information at this time, but what we can is that it's not important that you're local to Omega Mart, and it's not necessarily about physically going to Omega Mart. The two promotional posts that you create don't need to feel "scripted" or follow any particular narrative or sketch format; they just need to first drive to a digital sign-up for the event, and then remind the audience that the event is happening. It could simply involve you teasing that you've created something for Meow Wolf, and that your audience can check it out during the event. Meow Wolf is happy to do collaborative posts or tag you. More information will be shared with a short list of creators who fit the mold we're looking for.

Note that Tongal and Meow Wolf area also reaching out to some creators directly, so although the intention is to select some creators form within this project, and we'll also be selecting a number of creators, there's no guarantee that we'll select someone here, if we don't see creators who fit the mold or have a sufficient following.

For any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

DELIVERABLES: There are at least 3 videos.

  • The Unboxing Video: One MW product unboxing video (9x16), specifically for event usage, but potentially posted in-feed after event launch)
  • Event Promotion Videos:
    • One mid-October event registration video (9x16), posted in-feed
    • One mid-November event teaser post (9x16), in-feed or on stories, to drive to the event

EXPECTED TIMELINE: HERE

EXPOSURE: We expect content will be used on the platforms below, but in the unlikely event that you're working with or casting talent, be sure they review our required Talent Release before they're cast, as we CANNOT guarantee that usage is limited to these platforms. Also, know that we're looking for a minimum usage term of one year for the unboxing content, and that's not yet reflected in the Talent Release we've linked to. Otherwise, you should also review our Music providers in the Project Requirements, as well as the platform best practices. Also, for this project.

  • Your / the creator's Instagram channel
  • Meow Wolf's owned social channels & website

TARGET AUDIENCE: This is the broad audience that Meow Wolf speaks to, and some thought should be given to whether your audience overlaps with this. In most cases, if you're a comedy creator on Instagram, the answer's probably yes.

  • Millennial & Gen Z Audiences
  • “Cultural Mavericks" and "Insatiable Seekers,” or people who are looking for unexpected, unique cultural experiences that are worth talking about and sharing. Immersive art lovers.
  • “Portal Parents,” or families who are looking for more unique outings and richer experiences for their kids.

TONE/FEEL:

  • Distinctly Meow Wolf: surreal, narrative, playful, unexpected, surprising, clever, humorous.
  • Native to the platforms, not overly polished or scripted

AI USAGE: You may not use AI generated visual or audio assets in your final content. However, for the purposes of your pitch and pre-production materials, you are welcome to use generative AI to create visuals, storyboards, animatics, proofs-of-concept, etc. that might help the Sponsor understand your vision for creating the final content. Additionally, assistive AI tools (e.g. object removal, compositing, color grading, sound mixing, subtitling, etc.) may be used in post-production to supplement your workflow. Please keep record of any AI usage deployed in your submissions in the event that the Sponsor requests AI disclosures. If you have questions about any specific usage or tool, please ask your Tongal producer.

OPEN BID:

  • This is an "open bid" project, and that openness reflects the understanding that although the creative ask is very straightforward, and probably only requires a couple thousand in actual "production" costs, your cost as a creator will reflect your current content market rate and the size of your audience.
  • By participating in this open bid project, creators acknowledge that the Sponsor is under no obligation to greenlight a bid. Though most open bid projects do move forward, we'll notify you in the event the Sponsor decides not to fund any bids via the Project Forum. Regardless of the result, all open bid submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by the Sponsor and project team.

In order to be considered, include the below materials in your submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery. All Pitches remain private, even after a Pitch is selected, and Tongal strives to have Pitch selections made by the end of the Evaluation period, but additional time may be required by the Sponsor, depending on any number of factors. Unless specifically requested, there's no need to include a budget with your submission.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): Up to 500 characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and produce the content listed in the Deliverables.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, editor, artist, etc.) but do not include links to your showreel. Please link to individual videos.

  • BID (REQUIRED): This is an open bid project, and the Sponsor would like you to know what your rate would be to create ALL of the content listed in the Deliverables, given your current follower count and rates.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show what you're capable of. Consider a video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect, or consider test videos, proof-of-concept edits, animatics, etc. For examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit by the Sponsor, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal, typically included with the project timeline.

PRE-PRODUCTION BIBLE & APPROVALS: Prior to the commencement of actual production, creators MUST prepare a singular pre-production "bible" document with the elements contained below, and that document MUST receive final approval from the Sponsor. We recommend that you use the bible template we provide HERE, or something very similar. The bible can be presented in stages as different elements are ready for review (i.e. it's not expected that storyboards, if required, are ready with your first draft). Apart from the below, you're also welcome to include other key items that you think would be helpful to communicate your plan (e.g. moodboards, lighting, music, shot list, etc.).

Note that there may be multiple rounds of feedback until elements are approved, and if you begin production before you have received final approval, you may need to reshoot or reanimate at your own expense.

  • TREATMENT Describe how you plan to execute the content, and how you plan to bring it to life visually. Feel free to use concept art, references, style frames, or mock-ups. If relevant, share additional information about your team, and your process.

For convenience, we've provided some helpful templates that you can consider using for pre-production materials, and they can all be accessed here.

REVISION REQUIREMENTS & RESOURCES: Once Content has been submitted and the initial Production Phase completed, greenlit creators will enter into Revisions. Creators will perform reasonable edits on their videos according to the Sponsor's feedback. Check out our Filmmaker Resource Portal to access helpful post-production resources like Text-Safe Guides for different platforms, Project File Organization Tutorial, Export Presets, and Captioning services.

MUSIC: If you use music from a library for your content, you MUST use one of Tongal's music providers: Universal Production Music, PrimalHouse, or Slipstream. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into submissions to this project, and will not require a Music Release Form. To learn more, click on any of the providers' names above.

If you use original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. Please ensure your composer reviews and signs this form BEFORE beginning their work.

ASSET DELIVERY REQUIREMENTS & RESOURCES: You must also provide all project files, editing sequences and a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec in order to submit final payment. You are responsible for any costs associated with the hard drive and shipping. Tongal also reserves the right to request all raw files associated with the project.

To ensure a smoother delivery, please review the Export Presets, Specifications, and Project File Organization Tutorial in our Filmmaker Resource Portal.

  1. In addition to the standard Tongal W-9, Winner Affidavit, and IP Assignment, greenlit Video creators MUST also provide Talent, Location, Music (or other) Releases for all assets appearing in their Videos, as well as a photograph/headshot OR copy of a photo ID for all On-camera Talent releases. You must also provide all project files, editing sequences and a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec to claim your earnings. Tongal also reserves the right to request all raw files associated with the project.
