Produce an informative but cautionary short digital video for IPVanish that demonstrates the risks of personal data security.

Daily life leaves a data trail that needs concealing, and IPVanish is a simple app that keeps your internet activity private. There are lots of ways users inadvertently share information with unknown sources, and IPVanish wants users to be aware of how their digital habits may be putting them at risk. The goal of this project is to clearly communicate the environment and interactions which make daily privacy protection a necessity, and the peace of mind that IPVanish provides. IPVanish has already developed a specific live-action creative concept that they'd like you to pitch against, and you can find it and more information in the Background section.

During COVID-19, our priority is to make sure everyone is safe. Along with that, we’re working really hard to keep people working during this strange time. Our advice here is to submit only if you feel you can do something within the anticipated timeline that ensures everyone's safety given today's reality. It is possible that considerations and flexibility are possible in the timeline, but please consider these factors as you pitch.

IPVanish is a VPN service that encrypts network traffic and conceals the location data of its users. As a champion for privacy, IPVanish offers a secure solution to protect online activity and personal information. The project consists of developing an advertising campaign that clearly communicates the environment and interactions which make daily privacy protection a necessity and the peace of mind that IPVanish provides.

CREATIVE CONCEPT

The concept follows a person‘s life as they go about their day with their personal electronic device (waking up, paying for coffee, tracking a jog, using WiFi, etc.). Each technological touchpoint causes data to physically manifest and follow our hero. With a whole slew of conjured data points stalking our hero, we arrive at a friend’s house, but that friend appears free of those data entities. They show their friend the IPVanish app as the narrator explains its benefits. Eventually, our hero enables IPVanish and can live without the data visualizations invading their space.

When considering creative for IPVanish, be sure to take a look at key competitors to help differentiate IPVanish's look and feel on screen:

A key aspect of your pitch will be to not only capture the sincerity and importance of this privacy issue, but you will also need to clearly show how you will portray the predatory data that follows all of us as we navigate our digital world. There's a myriad of ways that we can illustrate this threat, and we want options that convey the importance of addressing this risk.

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this video.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • SCRIPT (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment, the responsible creator will receive funding. Please note: the payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Please see the full payment schedule in the Assets section.

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a treatment, production budget, storyboards, shot list, call sheet, and a music cue sheet. Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present cast, location, and wardrobe options to the Sponsor. They can all be accessed here.

REVISION REQUIREMENTS: Once the Video Phase has closed, the greenlit submitters will enter the Revisions Phase. Filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback.
