Produce a live-action instructional video for Handy Gym using text overlays to highlight the unique technology of the equipment, while demonstrating the set up and some example exercises.

We all know that exercise, like eating your veggies, is something we all need as humans. While going to the gym is a great option for some, what about those of us that don't have the time to make it there, don't feel comfortable in those environments, or simply would rather exercise in their own spaces? Handy Gym solves these problems for consumers by offering them an innovative anywhere workout option without needing to build an entire home gym. Handy Gym is the smallest gym in the world, weighing in at just over 2lbs, utilizing flywheel technology to deliver safe, effective, and challenging exercise options to its users.

Mueller Sports Medicine has just added the Handy Gym to their product lineup, but they've discovered that consumers often find the Handy Gym to be pretty complex when first unboxing, and are often confused as where to start. That's why Mueller Sports needs a filmmaker to create a roughly 3 minute instructional video that can take a user through everything - from unboxing to the first workout - while giving some background on the innovative technology behind this small but mighty piece of exercise equipment. The video should quickly and effectively explain the flywheel technology utilized by the Handy Gym, show users what accessories come with the product, how to set up the equipment, and then get people started with 3 basic exercises. This video is not a full workout tutorial, so it will mainly focus on background and set-up of the machine.

Mueller Sports will provide the script, as well as all 3 models of the product. The video itself will only focus on one model, so the other two models will need to be referenced in dialogue, or through on-screen text and graphics. The script breaks the video down into four segments - background, unboxing and accessories, set-up, and exercise demos - and you'll then use those segments to create three cutdowns, each covering a specific segment.

We're anticipating that you'll need to capture this content in a studio space, either with on-screen talent walking the viewers through the process, either going through the motions themselves or by demonstrating with a model following alongside them. This walkthrough would be supported with on-screen text and graphics. It's not mandatory that you use a studio space, but we do want a simple, clean, and crisp location. While they are looking to tap into the home-workout market, they don't want this to look like it's being filmed in someone's living room.

For your pitch, be sure to explain your approach and break down exactly how you see these segments flowing in to each other, and how you'll stylize and make use of motion graphics usage. Think about how you can strategically shoot to help fully support the information being communicated in the script. The most important takeaway for this project is that the consumers finish watching the video with a full understanding of the equipment and the confidence to get started using it. REFERENCE VIDEOS FOR INSPIRATION OR TONE:

In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials in your pitch submission. For examples of effective pitches, check out this gallery.

  • TEXT (REQUIRED): 500 or fewer characters synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this video.

  • TREATMENT (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the video. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a treatment template, which you can find here.

  • LINKS (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.

  • STORYBOARDS (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. You can download the Tongal storyboard template here.

  • PITCH VIDEO (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome. For some examples of effective Pitch videos, check out this gallery. All Pitches will remain private until after the Sponsor gives creator(s) the green light to move forward.

The most compelling pitch will be greenlit, and the responsible creator will then receive an email from Tongal producers detailing next steps. All submitters will also receive an automated email notification that a selection has been announced. To ensure you’re receiving project updates, review your email settings to check that you haven’t unsubscribed.

Creators who’ve been selected will receive funding upon completing the Winner Affidavit and the IP Assignment. Payment of the pitch funds is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Please see the full payment schedule.

PRE-PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS: Prior to shooting, filmmakers must receive the below approvals from the Sponsor.

  • CASTING: This project requires casting approval. Tongal advocates for inclusivity in on-screen representation and diversity in casting. As a best practice, please submit three to four options per role, with at least one of those options being a person of color. If the Sponsor does not approve any of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new actor options. Additionally, owing to the risk of disruption from COVID, you will be expected to have backup talent approved by the Sponsor in advance of production to account for any last-minute changes.
  • STORYBOARD: This project requires storyboard approval. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your storyboard and ask you to submit a new version.
  • STYLE FRAMES: This project requires style frame approval. Please provide 2-3 styles depicting how you will approach on-screen text and motion graphics. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your style frames and ask you to submit a new version.
  • LOCATION: This project requires location approval. This means you will need to submit multiple images of your primary filming location. The Sponsor may provide feedback on your location and ask you to submit additional photos or to find a new location and submit images for that.
  • WARDROBE: This project requires wardrobe approval. You will need to submit descriptions and/or pictures of your cast’s wardrobe. You must submit at least two wardrobe options per role. If the Sponsor does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new wardrobe options.

For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a treatment, production budget, storyboards, shot list, call sheet, and a music cue sheet. Additionally, there are templates that will help you clearly present cast, location, and wardrobe options to the Sponsor. They can all be accessed here.

BUILDING YOUR TEAM: Tongal supports inclusivity in all of our productions and strongly encourages you to hire diverse talent for your team. To find staff & crew in your area, check out these resources and partners.

REVISION REQUIREMENTS: Once the Video Phase has closed, the greenlit submitters will enter the Revisions Phase. Filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback.
